I’ve been using MEC 600jr since I was 5. My Dad has always reloaded and he passed the tradition down to me. Now that we live in separate states I have my own equipment. They are all MEC, 2 600jrs, and a sizemaster. They are the best. 👍🏼
Thanks for doing a presentation on this little work horse of a press. I've had one for many years and it produces excellent reloads from trap loads to heavy turkey and goose loads. Unless I start trap or skeet this is my goto press.
I use a pizza pan since it has rolled-up edges since it always keeps the powder and shot in the pan where as a cookie sheet doesnt have rolled-up edges
MEC 600JR Mk V is solid, tight, does a great job, and worth every dollar spent on it. Additional charge bars and powder bushings are reasonably priced and their service is excellent. I have one of these and one of the Lee Load All. Lee has a selection of powder and shot bushings, but many will never be used and some smaller powder bushings do not exist. This makes better shotshells with a better crimp and more consistent load. There is much less powder leakage and waste with the MEC. It also is easier to unload the unused powder and shot with the backwards tilting individual containers rather than having both containers part of the same unit in the Lee. Yes, it costs about 4 times more, but it is worth it. If you are debating and have the cash go with the MEC.
Thank you for showing this I am thinking of getting one to load 16ga since it is so hard to find, and when you can find it selection sucks and the price is twice that of 12ga.
I appreciate the input, but that's not how things typically roll when I put these things together. :) Right now I'm in-progress on three series (500 S&W, Budget Precision .223, and the MEC 600 JR Mark V) - sharing as I go.
Thank you for the good video! Would you consider making a video showing a gauge conversion on this press? Eg. 20 gauge to 12 gauge. I've seen other videos showing the conversion 2-3/4" to 3" but not one gauge to another. I know guys will recommend a press for each gauge, but I'm trying to minimize clutter and would like to load 10, 12 and 16 gauge and don't want three presses sitting around. Thanks for your always helpful videos!
I noticed they have a brass washer now. I bought mine about 30 years ago and they didn't use them. I recently started using Titewad powder and it threw it everywhere. Called MEC and told them the problem, he said "Do you have the brass washer in?". I said no..never got 1. Then he said we never put them in back then...well duh!!! Figured they would have sent 1 for free but nope..had to buy one.
1 sujustion use the bigger hopper for powder. Useing the bigger one for shot is to much weight on it and if you tip it back to change powder bushing you may find that the shot will knock out upper plug and shot goes every where. plus its easyer to add shot to small as you need it. i have a versa max sence 1978 that MEC made and still use it but now more for steel shot reloading.
7/8oz Lee slug mold which is a foster type design and the Lyman are the shape of pellets for bb guns. You would definitely save money loading slugs and buckshot though.
Where did you get the mount from? Also a video's of how to put the mec jr. together after a complete tear down. Bought it used that way. The guy tore it down to ship it.
Nice timing on this video for me! I'm very close to purchasing a progressive shotshell reloader. I've been studying your videos on the Hornady 366 and the RCBS Grand. I'm currently running a Hornady LNL AP for rifle, but honestly I think the RCBS grand has the edge over the 366 in shotshell. I'm stoked that you're now reviewing a Mec to give me more to look at. I'm most interested in the often overlooked details, such as how simple the UNLOADING process is (powder and shot), if the wad insertion and priming action are reliable and worry-free, etc. I realize you probably won't be able to compare one press against another in your vids, but if you can show us the little details that will greatly help me make up my mind. Thanks for everything! By the way - are you still running that Dewalt battery camera rig? :-)
Stuart, glad you are looking forward to the series. I'll focus on those details you mentioned. No, not using the Dewalt rig any longer, but it was fun. :)
If it helps, I did a crimp troubleshooting video. Not at gavintoobe's quality, but the information is sound. I tried to make the information universal, but I discuss a predecessor of your machine which has basically the same adjustment process.
new to reloading. mostly shooting clays with friends so dont need to crank out hundreds an hour. looking at the lee becuase the price is great. also the mec for its quality. which one would you suggest
Completely new to shotshell reloading. Id like to reload for my 28ga, 2 3/4 shells using bismuth shot. What will i need to be set up? Looking to order what i can find. I have lots of once fired hulls and primers.
i recently got a used 600 mark V and it is set up to reload 12 gauge . i ordered i kit from mec to change it over to 410 gauge but the instructions are not clear on how to change it over . do you have a video showing how to do it?
This will be a nice change, I bought there high end press 4 years ago and it is still in box because I have not exhausted my inventory of shells yet. The only problem I have always had is there isn't a press that will do 28 ga to 12 ga. Like brass presses. If there is someone please tell me
I've been reloading pistol and rifle for years and I thought lately of doing shotgun. Not sure if it's really cost-effective when a box of 25 shells for trap runs anywhere from 450 to 5 dollars a box it might not be worthwhile.
Question to anyone bothered to read and reply: How much are steel nr 7 shotshell for skeet/trap in US, per shot? In sweden they are like 15 cents a shot (steel, US7 24 gram), sometimes cheaper. But that can be put in comparison 1 galon of gasoline here is $6,30 per galon converted.. So basicly, i cant even order plastig wads for that price much less reload for the same cost.
For the most part your videos are exceptional this one I give you a 5 why u never explain the most important piece The Bushing # u used it comes with 3 the actual reloading video u still didn’t explain bushing / amount of powder used per case the manual gives u three choices ???
Yes, here's some info: ultimatereloader.com/2011/03/27/the-new-reloading-bench-system-at-ultimate-reloader/ and I'm actually working on a kit so that you can "build your own" - stay tuned!
You make some very nice videos however it is probably do to the fact that I just purchased my reloader and this is an older video. Having said that my reloader came with more parts (all plastic) and the instructions must be for older reloaders because nowhere in the instructions does it show how or where to attach them. I will have to contact Mec tomorrow and find out where/how they attach to the reloader. I am new to reloading and thus far am not very impressed with the quality of this product.
Its a shame lead shot has gotten so high. I reloaded lead shot for many years. I have my Mec set up running steel shot for doves no.6 steel and no 3 steel and 2 steel for area's i can not use lead shot for hunting, rabbit, squirrel, ducks, geese.

You are welcome, and sounds like you have a good setup between different presses for different things...
I always mount my press on a cookie sheet to prevent the accidental spillage of shot from going all over the floor.
Now that is genius! Spilling shot is a constant problem. :)
Great idea!
I use a pizza pan since it has rolled-up edges since it always keeps the powder and shot in the pan where as a cookie sheet doesnt have rolled-up edges
Smart!
Nice shot with that snake. I enjoyed this video having just acquired a used MEC 600 jr.

really looking forward to this series.
Heck yeah! Glad you are along for the "ride" :)
I like the mec 600 loaded 1000s and 1000s of shells. Also had a lot of luck with red dot powder and rem 209 primers
Nice video, Mec has a slug version of this machine; it would be fantastic to see your in-depth overview and review of that model.
Thank you for showing this I am thinking of getting one to load 16ga since it is so hard to find, and when you can find it selection sucks and the price is twice that of 12ga.
I wish you'd finish the last 10 video you started and didn't finish before starting a new one, I enjoy watching them in order better.
I appreciate the input, but that's not how things typically roll when I put these things together. :) Right now I'm in-progress on three series (500 S&W, Budget Precision .223, and the MEC 600 JR Mark V) - sharing as I go.

Hope you do some buck and slug reloading along with trap loads.
Good call- need to do slugs! Can save some big $$$ loading them, esp. if you cast them...
Lee Lyman or maybe NOE has something in a mold. This should get interesting.
7/8oz Lee slug mold which is a foster type design and the Lyman are the shape of pellets for bb guns. You would definitely save money loading slugs and buckshot though.
All you need is a good C clamp to fasten down the press. Been using one for 40 years.
Straight up shotshell reloading!!!
Sure would like to see the Lee Load All 2 review.
Where did you get the mount from? Also a video's of how to put the mec jr. together after a complete tear down. Bought it used that way. The guy tore it down to ship it.
You got to try the mec 600 slugger if you like shooting slugs
Cool, I'll look into it! I like slugs...

Stuart, glad you are looking forward to the series. I'll focus on those details you mentioned. No, not using the Dewalt rig any longer, but it was fun. :)
Stuart Brazile I would go with the RCBS Grand. I have pretty much all of MECs reloaders and hands down the RCBS Grand is the best.
Very nice. Should do the versamec or the 700 next with crimp troubleshootibg
Is that one discontinued?
Versamec is. 700 shouldn't be but both very similar
If it helps, I did a crimp troubleshooting video. Not at gavintoobe's quality, but the information is sound. I tried to make the information universal, but I discuss a predecessor of your machine which has basically the same adjustment process.

Love the Channel...did your loadmaster become a paperweight or boat anchor? Love to see more vids on that...tips tricks...ect..
Where did you pick up the inline fabrication ultra mount?
Did you need to adjust anything on the press
I’ve been trying to find a adjustable charge bar for mine..
Very hard to find
This will be a nice change, I bought there high end press 4 years ago and it is still in box because I have not exhausted my inventory of shells yet. The only problem I have always had is there isn't a press that will do 28 ga to 12 ga. Like brass presses. If there is someone please tell me
Does this come with the powder bushings? Do you explain how to choose the correct diameter bushing anywhere?
According to the MEC website, this 20 gauge version comes with three powder bushings, the #20, #22, and #24, as well as the 7/8 oz charge bar.
I've been reloading pistol and rifle for years and I thought lately of doing shotgun. Not sure if it's really cost-effective when a box of 25 shells for trap runs anywhere from 450 to 5 dollars a box it might not be worthwhile.
Sounds like I need to add a "Shotshell" reloading costs calculator that incorporates wads, etc. :)

Good job !!!!
Thank you Sir
I got the MEC Sizemaster for 3-1/2 inch 10 Guage shells. How do I put together the primer cup it’s not in the directions?
thank-you
0:29 man, you just make that snake disappeared
Do you still have the RCBS grand that you reviewed a while back?
Not that one :)
Can this be used for both 2 3/4 and 3" 12 gauge shot shell?
According to MEC's own website, yes.
If you want to load subsonics can you change the amount of powder ?
For the most part your videos are exceptional this one I give you a 5 why u never explain the most important piece The Bushing # u used it comes with 3 the actual reloading video u still didn’t explain bushing / amount of powder used per case the manual gives u three choices ???
What press do you use for 410?
I don't load 410. :) Sounds like fun though...
what 3 powder bushing come with it?
Any info on the table you are using?
Yes, here's some info: ultimatereloader.com/2011/03/27/the-new-reloading-bench-system-at-ultimate-reloader/ and I'm actually working on a kit so that you can "build your own" - stay tuned!
When u gonna upload the video of it in progress
I'm working on that today actually! First shells are looking great off this press!
Mine has loaded thousands and thousands of shells.
Where can I get that bench
Whats the price of one of these babys ?
Google is your friend. :)
would have been amazingly more useful to show how t reinstall the pro check instead of how to screw on posder hoppers.
He shot the snake and then just disappeared! XD

Where can I get that tee shirt
You can now order them here! Hot off the press! You can order them here: ultimatereloader.com/store/ Thanks for your support!

Go to Precision Reloading and check!
you spent most of your video on random banter and fidgeting. we all know how a ratchet works
No need to shoot that rattler.
I know right. .should have just taken it inside and let the kids pet it..what's the worst that could happen, right?...??????????fuk snakes
