As a Tulane fan there is a huge buzz around the new Tulane football 🏈 hire!! The electricity is palpable. When he mentioned Tulane going to the playoffs the crowd went nuts!! Roll Wave 🌊
I too thought the American Athletic Conference would get at least 3-4 bids. This was based in Memphis and FAU being who they are and some combination of Wichita state, Tulane, Temple being better with SMU, ECU, USF, and UAB being dark horses for significant improvement. My concern is as a league we haven't had many major non conference wins that make you pause and take notice about the AAC. There are some big opportunities this week as UNT, ECU, and SMU have games vs P5 foes this week. Tulane and Temple have strong match ups against other highly touted mid majors. Wichita state has two big opportunities next week against K-State and Kansas. So I'm hoping as a league their is a strong finish to Non Con and that carries into league play and leads to us getting at least a 3rd bid (perhaps a 4th if someone else wins the Auto bid.)
Trey, here are my answers to your request for questions. 1: Tulane hiring Jon Sumrall is a medium to low risk HC hire. His 2 P5 opponents over 2 years were losses. The Bowl win over UTSA is his greatest victory. He knows how the an HC Admin side and can also train up, and coach game day. The areas of weakness are only 2 seasons of HC history and no QB change experience. Look at ECU Mike Houston as a warning. Also, we do not yet know the OC, DC, or STC. These hires all impact success. In particular, the OC is critical because HC Sumrall is a Defense experienced HC. 2: AAC MBB is doing well. Out of 14 teams, 11 have winning records. Of the 3 losing record schools, 2 are new additions to the AAC. The AAC has more teams with winning records than any other UD5, although the MWC has a higher winning % as a Conference. The AAC will do fine. Temple is 6TH place with a 6-3 record with a 1ST Time Year 1 HC Fisher and Staff. We think this is pretty good. We have a post presence weakness we are trying to fix by training up 1 player and scheming other options. We have an injured defensive player soon returning. We have 4 OOC games remaining: @VCU, Nevada, TCU/ODU, Diamond Head Final. Let’s see how we do.
As a Memphis fan I doubt JB comes back. I think Malcolm beat him out.and he's frustrated and out of shape. Tomlin would fit perfect. He's a transition big! And he can stick it back at FAU with Memphis as k state lost to FAU in the elite 8.
AAC Basketball disappointing programs: •SMU - They are leaving so not to interested other than the potential credits they'd leave behind... but then again they've been underachieving since the departure of Larry Brown...a long time ago! •Temple - WTF Temple, always have hope •Wichita - Not the same level of the Gregg Marshall era. •Charlotte - They were in the Hybrid CUSA along with Marquette and DePaul for their basketball prowess... maybe it would be nice to relive the olden days? •ECU - RESPECT their efforts at basketball for a program traditionally know for football and baseball accomplishments
If USF hits it shots, they win. Not impressed with 2 out of the 3 transfers from Kennesaw State with the other Chris Youngblood is pretty much just a shooter, does little else.

Tomlin commits to Memphis. According the Commercial Appeal, He'll be able to join the team immediately.
Nice…big pickup for the Tigers!
Love the Tulane football HC hire, definitely a grand slam IMO.

Excellent thoughts here! 💯👍
Go Temple! Would love to see them making noise come late Feb
Tomlin is visiting Memphis today. But Bill self is also interested.

I was hoping Brown would find a groove with Memphis, sucks if he’s not going to be back
Agreed on Tomlin being perfect fit

what do you think it would take SMU to fire their basketball coach? He has been overly mediocre. Not looking good for ACC transition.
They’ll let him transition to ACC then I’m guessing he’ll be on short leash
