Hi Nicole, Thank you for this video of tips. I'm a new follower and have found your videos and tips very helpful, and your stories are such a delight to read. I do have writing goals that I struggle to complete. Sometimes I struggle to even get started, but other times I struggle with time management. I have an office away from home where I do my "for pay" work. I've been trying to come home and do my writing at the kitchen table but there are far too many distractions. I need a distraction-free environment to be truly productive. I had a room where I could work, but I gave it to my wife to set up and use as her painting room (she is a wonderful artist). I have a pair of noise-reducing headphones that I tried using, but they hurt my ears because I have to put them on over my reading glasses. Do I sound hopeless? Do you have any other suggestions that might help me reach my goals?
Hi James, thank you! I made another video about the "writing in your head" strategy. I often find I'll get more distracted when sitting down to my work if I haven't planned it out enough beforehand. You could find a quiet place in your house to plan out your work first. It doesn't have to be a workspace. Just somewhere you can think without being interrupted, usually away from your computer. Sometimes I'll go for a walk for this part. Then I'll get back to my computer and write down my ideas. Once you've started your project, it might be easier to work in your kitchen where there are distractions. Not sure if that will work for you. It depends on what the distractions are.
