The v490 can take any size fc-al drive you can throw at it, and IIRC it doesn't have a backup OBP device like the v8 series. I have a v890 running debian sparc64, but oracle linux has a sparc64 as does gentoo. I'm the lead developer for the gentoo sparc64 port, but i haven't pushed anything official upstream yet.
Um, my other V490 does through out OBP from the system on board rj-45 port. Thanks for the heads up on bigger FC-AL drives. I was told that OBP couldn't see anything bigger than 300GB. But if it can, i will see if i can through in my 750GB seagate drive in it
My memory of these systems is hazy, it's been a while. I may be thinking of the v440 or v480. The OBP will see it, but it won't be able to access above 300GB. As long as the kernel and all drivers are located in the first 300GB it will boot. Not sure how to go about that on solaris, but with linux i just have a small boot partition at the beginning of the dirve.
i had 2 v440, and there was not output on the rj45 serial port when the sc card was removed. Also my v440 OBP could not see 146GB or higher drives in it.
