I've found overwhelming evidence that Edgar Allan Poe wasn't the real author of "The Raven." His claim to it was merely a brazen public scam, not unlike what we would call "identity theft," today. The real author, as I have concluded, was Mathew Franklin Whittier, the younger brother of the famous Quaker poet, John Greenleaf Whittier. Mathew would have written the poem from real-life circumstances, just as you read in the opening lines.
