- Brazil were in Group 6. With Zico, Sócrates, Falcão, Éder and others, they boasted an offensive firepower that promised a return to the glory days of 1970. They beat the USSR 2-1 thanks to a 20-metre Éder goal two minutes from time, then Scotland and New Zealand with four goals each. The Soviets took the group's other qualifying berth on goal difference at the expense of the Scots.

Scotland played well against an absolutely formidable Selecao. There was so much hot talent in Tele Santana's team that it was surprising it didn't burn a massive hole in the pitch. They were unplayable on that day.
As in the game against the Soviet Union, Brazil were in difficulties here and took a long time to settle down. Although they were superior in terms of craft and skill, in retrospect I wonder, could Scotland have beaten them if they had attacked what turned out to be a very, very suspect Brazilian defence.
I'm not ashamed to say as a thirteen year old Scottish lad I had my Brazil top on for this game ..and most of the 70s and 80s too 😂 they couldn't have been more special if they'd flown in from another Galaxy
The days when you could hear the samba music in the stands.....Scotland actually had about 3 or 4 world class players especially the Liverpool players.
Hansen never played well for Scotland. Dalglish played quite well for us but not to the same level that he did with Liverpool. Souness, Jordan and Strachan were the one's who regularly turned up and played consistently well.
But useless in world cup games against good players.
@@johnmifsud2698 Jordan was not an international striker of the highest class, check his record.
Remember watching this as a ten year old . Scotland scored first and then Brazil got angry
Yep, stupendous mistake to score early, that sent Brazil into a frenzy. Scotland were lucky not to lose by 6 or 7. The only chance Scotland had would be to keep it tight and maybe nick it at the end.

Jogo bonito ❤🇧🇷⚽️
Football was better to watch back then.
Ruined it with the music...👎
The first minute of this was the best I've seen Scotland Play unfortunately it was like poking a bear with a stick.
Entranced by this Brazil team as a 7 year old kid.To be fair Scotland that was a very tough group cos USSR were really strong too.
Pops always said worst thing we did was score. Made them angry
silly music
That zico fella wasn’t bad was he
Since Scotland's shirt is almost black, referees and linesmen have to wear red. In case of a match between Scotland and Spain, they have to wear violet.
Did Rough get near anything at anytime. Positioning and game reading were rank rotten
Éder, o galã craque de todas as copas.
Zico greatest midfield of his generation. This team missed us.
0-1 David Narey (18 min)
1-1 Zico (33 min)
2-1 Oscar (48 min)
3-1 Éder (63 min)
4-1 Falcão (87 min)
