    Omg. I must get one!!! Just because I'm a harpist and I'm Chinese. Lol. Really, the sound is beautiful. I will contact you for the seller contact and the teacher when I'm ready.

    I find that Kong Hou produces louder and much more resonant sound than a harp, could it be due the the bigger sound box?

    Sounds amazing I love the phoenix design and shape. I wrote them after your Reverb store announcement to learn more about the costs, and they were really nice and responsive. It looks like they named a harp after you as their price list had the "Molly Khan Phoenix" model with levers!

    • @MusicalMollyKhan
      @MusicalMollyKhan  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yes, it was so sweet of them! We sort of collaborated on this design (I say sort of, because I basically just said "can you do this?" And they did all the work 😅). This is a small model with only 22x2 strings, but can still do some note-bending much like a guzheng. Yisheng Konghou was just amazing to work with 😊

    Molly you said the strings are different from regular harp strings but you didn't come back to the strings. What are they made from?

    Congratulations on yet another baby ( instrument) LOL! Your excitement is so infectious!!! I’ve been eyeing Konghou for about 3 years now. I nearly bought a full sized one but discovered buying strings was a huge up hill struggle. First identifying who made the konghou , then the model , getting a translator. So I bought a piano instead LOL!

      Haha that's totally fair! I would very much like a big one someday. I am studying with Nathania Ko and she seems to know a few makers if you are still interested, she's on Facebook 😊

    That thing is crazy cool! It looks like something out of a Dr Seuss book. LOL. The design is more of a double lyre than a harp when you think about it. In any case... it's super unique and it sounds amazing. Wow! What a great find.

    • @MusicalMollyKhan
      @MusicalMollyKhan  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Haha, I love the Dr Seuss comparison, it's spot on! When you think about it, even a pedal harp is a bit like that 😂 But yes, it's so cool!

    😃 it sounds amazing, I saw normal Kong Hou when I was in china, it is usually very big like pedal harp, its a chinese instrument mixed with harp, But this tiny red phonix sounds incredible 😍, thank you for your great video. This is gonna be on my wish list 🥰

    • @MusicalMollyKhan
      @MusicalMollyKhan  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Great questions! I am working on learning to build harps (not anything so complicated as this though!) So I'm hopeful that with guidance I'll be able to figure it out. Honestly, there's no western harp techs where I am either 😅
      Edit: I'm not sure about the soundboard wood, I'm sure they told me but I can't find it - I'll email and get back to you 😊

    You can use techniques that common in guzheng, harp and even piano on konghou, playing techniques could be even more complex on the big konghou with 72 strings or the padel konghou with 88 strings, but the price for owning one aren't cheap.

      Yes, there are so many amazing ways to use this beautiful instrument! I am studying with Nathania Ko right now to learn more about it. I would love to have a bigger one in the future, but that may be a ways off 😅

    How interesting. Can you play "normal" harp music on that too? Or is it a different system all together? Is it compareable to a double strung harp?

    • @lalaland51
      @lalaland51 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes it is, you can play normal strung harp with this harp

    • @MusicalMollyKhan
      @MusicalMollyKhan  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It is very much like a double strung harp! The only limitation this one has (and I'm not sure if this applies to all konghous) is that there is an ingenious lever system where flipping a lever on the left (visible) side also sharpens the string on the right side. So you can't have, say, one G and one G# in the same octave on opposite sides at the same time. But I imagine that very rarely comes up!

    • @MusicalMollyKhan
      @MusicalMollyKhan  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Absolutely! The email for the maker is yisheng.konghou@outlook.com. if you're patient, I'm thinking of selling this one next spring to help finance a larger lever konghou, but otherwise you can order from Yisheng (either this size or a 37x2 string) directly 😊
