This game and Fate of Atlantis are just LEGENDS ! It's a pity that they later copied Tomb Raider for Indy games and didn't make graphic adventures again!
@@LucasJodokast Problem with Iron Phoenix was that Germany at the time was one of the biggest markets for adventure games. Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade and Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis managed to get released there after some editing had been done to the Nazi symbols and mentions in the dialog. This however would not work with Iron Phoenix as the plot was about Hitler being resurrected through the Philosopher stone. That would really be hard to censor. So Iron Phoenix was canceled. For some time there was an attempt at making Indiana Jones and the Spear of Destiny, but that also did not get far. Only thing that came out of this were two Dark Horse Indy mini series with heavily modified storylines. Design wise there were also some problems. Apparently some people in Lucasarts thought that another graphics adventure like Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis was not worth doing anymore as FMV had become the new 'in' thing. Of course this meant less recognizable actors/b actors in front of a green screen as no way Lucasarts would have hired Harrison Ford or build complete sets. Eventually the idea was though to make Indiana Jones and the Iron Phoenix very stylistic looking, like Batman the Animated Series which I think was not a bad idea at all. Different, but not bad as Batman the Animated Series holds up visually very well today. It makes you actually curious what a "the Animated Adventures of Indiana Jones" series could have been like. We have been deprived of that possibility. Sadly other than the SNES game Indiana Jones Adventures, Indiana Jones and his Desktop Adventures, and Indiana Jones and the Infernal Machine, Lucasarts pushed Indy aside for increasingly number of Star Wars games. Indiana Jones and the Emperor's Tomb was developed by an outside studio. I have no idea which companies worked on Indiana Jones and the Staff of Kings. I wish more had been done with Indy in general, including comics. Now, in the current media climate I fear that it is too late.
@@Nikioko And you are going to be waiting for a long time I fear. I have zero trust in the new project which will probably be the last time Harrison Ford plays the role. "Let it go Indiana, let it go."
In 1990 I played this game with a Hercules graphic card and beep sounds. Reminds me of replacing 5.25" diskettes xD Even though technology is low compared to games these days, imagination was the best.
I owned Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis - It was a great game... I wish I still had it... Parents can be real assholes when they decided to clean house and destroy many of your prized possessions.... Anyway, this title looks fascinating, and I can't wait to view it... Thanks.
I played the hell out of this game on my old dx2 when I was a kid. This and maniac mansion and leisure suit Larry games and wing commander and xcom and fallout….. I had a awesome childhood
This game, as well as some naughty swimsuit pics I found on the hard drive somehow, are literally the only two uses our first family computer had for me. Oh the nostalgia!
1:14:22 I always got stuck after arriving at the castle, since the yellow health bar did not replenish after the fist fight and there are no instant win the fight key like fate of atlantis. Well If I knew there are some walkarounds to avoid most of the fight. Nice job on this not-easy game.
Oooh man!!!!! This Game, was soooooo awesome, This one, "Zack McCracken" and "Larry - Leisure Suit" (ok, for "Larry".... i was to young - so my Mam tell's me... 😢😂) I love this Video!!! Thanks a lot my Friend!! 👍🥰😎🥳❤🍾
Someone needs to enhance ScummVM, add in AI voice generation, and have the voice of Harrison Ford saying his parts (like an actor did in Fate of Atlantis). That would be awesome, but the legal hurdles would never allow it legitimately.
I played this game BEFORE watching the movie on purpose, with the effect that the experience of the game was extremely original but the movie was a disappointment afterwards. 😂
Used to play this game all the time when I was a kid. Years later, I picked up Fate of Atlantis and enjoyed it as well. However, I believe this one, The Last Crusade, was a superior game. Fate of Atlantis had a few areas that were kind of dull and boring. This one had much more interesting locations overall, I think.
No way. As much as I loved Last Crusade, Fate of Atlantis was superior in almost every way. Having said that, if you check out the FM Towns version of Last Crusade, the music was AWESOME.
Part of what makes Elsa an interesting character is that she isn't just another Nazi; she wants to recover the grail and just thinks the Nazis are her path to get there.
This game had great charm, imagination filled in the rest as a kid. It's cool to see how games evolved through. Every new graphical improvement was so exciting to see when it came out. Fun times no matter what. 👍
You missed the golden age of computer games. From 1990 to 2000 most of the computer type genres were developed. The old games might be inferior in graphics and sound, but they have charm and they will challenge you. There is no auto heal, like in todays games and no simplification for casual gamers.
At the time the graphics were awesome. You should have seen some of the games prior.. Plus the imagination and creativity that went into the design of games in this era has been un-rivalled since. For example even a game like Dungeon Keeper.. you don't get anywhere close to that now in terms of originality.
I dont quite understand your playstyle.... You know exactly what to do, (Example the sticky tape in Henrys house at the start) but your wandering around in the catacombs like a headless chicken, back and forth between rooms etc.
For those who dont know a long time ago LucasArts made genuinely good adventure games for the home computer.
Legendary game, many a fond memory playing this back in the day.
this gives me so much nostalgia a 256 color pixelated tear is running down my cheek
@@greggoog7559 16 color EGA and... German version 😂😂😂
16 colores!
casual. I played on a 286 with EGA and pc speaker.

Well Tomb Raider is copied Indiana Jones…
apparently there was a 3rd game planned "The iron Phoenix" but it got cancelled
It is a pity that after 30 years, I am still waiting for Indy 4 to be filmed.

One of the best games ever. It would be interesting that a talkie version of this game was made.
Like monkey island?
@@bobloerakker7010 Yes, there are voices in the remake of Monkey Island.
Oh wow the nostalgia! I used to play this on my nanas win95 pc when i was a kiddo
ive never before seen the uncensored version played, very nice! german version has all swastikas blacked out.
Actually the censored version was more rare than the uncensored.
I just wish they would have done the boat chase scene in Venice! That one was one of the best!

My childhood rises once again. Thank you! By david morgan whips! ;)
In castle Brunwald you forgot the chest with 50 marks(lvl2) first door to the right. Even so nice playing.
they should remaster this also with speech and etc
There was already a fan project for Fate of Atlantis, which was then banned by Disney from further development.
@@andre2716 Good lord, Disney. It's a 30-year-old point-and-click game.
A couple years ago i got the 386 out, brushed up on autoexe bat and got the game running. What a classic lol.

If you hit the green bar the full health is not replenished.
They gave this game away with Paradise 8 bit VGA video cards in the early 90s. Played on many Windows 95 PCs
I would love to study at Barnett College.
I didn't know there was an option to steal a biplane and avoid the zeppelin altogether!
This game is the business.
I remember they used to have a tip hotline (!), and I think one time I actually called it. Somebody's job was just to give out tips...lol
Played it on my dad's Macintosh Quadra 610 in 16 Color EGA. But much better sound than on pc.

The game left out the whole Colonal Volgel and Tank fight scene.
George Lucas, how man Swastikas do you want in this game?

I had a copied version of the game without the manual. I realized this (save with F5) very late.
There are different versions of this game!
...I could have sworn Indy wore a gray suit and not a brown one
90% catacombs...just like I remember it
