  • In Episode 3 of Beyond Rome this week Simone Rizkallah and James O’Reilly talk to Canon Lawyer Nicole Delaney on Orientalium Ecclesiarum, a short decree from the Second Vatican Council on the Eastern Churches!
This decree was the inspiration behind the Eastern Code of Canon Law-we do realize that inviting a canon lawyer to join us as our first special guest was a very Roman thing to do!
Beyond Rome is available on Apple, Spotify, TH-cam, and a variety of other media platforms!

Fantastic piece; we have not infrequently RCs and exploring Protestants who visit my parish and bring particular ideas of “tradition” and the import/s of Vatican II for the Churches with their curiosity and questions. One interesting consequence I’d found was that RC parishes less frequently have coffee any donuts etc after Mass, where at least Byzantine churches in the U.S., who adhered to earlier fasting practices, this is more established norm, even if most parishioners don’t fast completely over night to reception.

I think Irish and English Catholics have an aversion to the title "Roman" Catholic. It's the phrase that English Protestants use. Originally, I think, they considered the Anglican church to be the English Catholic church and the Catholics are following a foreign ecclesiastical power.
