So much for pulling yourself up by your bootstraps. Even when black people tried to do that, it was met with jealousy, anger and hate. The more things change, the more they stay the same.

Considering the original meaning of "pulling yourself by your bootstraps" it is actually quite fitting. Basically, it means to do the impossible. What people of color have done in the face of adversity is both incredibly amazing and heartbreaking. I say heartbreaking because they had to go through such horrors, and still face the reverberations today. We need to get our heads out of the sand and work toward a better future.

I lived in Tulsa from the mid 70's to the mid 80's and the only evidence of the Greenwood massacre was a small plaque on one of the original buildings. Tulsa has since built a monument and reconciliation park to document this tragic event. THIS is the type of history many narrow minded white people are AFRAID to have their children learn in school. Thank you. I helped research the Ocoee Massacre as a founder of the Democracy Forum. I prefer the term "massacre" to "race riot" because those of us who grew up in the second half of the twentieth century "race riot" has come to mean the exact opposite of what we are trying to describe. In terms of Ocoee, Florida the Census records support the idea that it was an "ethnic cleansing". Some of the property was sold, but given that houses were being burned, it was literally fire sale prices. One of the reasons for documenting the events is to provide a retort to the rhetorical question, "Why didn't freed African-Americans" prosper in a generation or two like imigrants to the United States?" The answer seems to be freed African-Americans did prosper, but once they prospered their voting rights and property was taken away. The Ocoee Massacre (and ethic cleansing) happened on election day 1920 and was directly related to voting and not accusations of rape.

My extended family comes from Springfield MO. When I was in my mid-thirties I flew alone to Springfield for the death of a beloved great uncle. I got the paper when I was there and found on the front page an article about Springfield's efforts to entice black people back to the town. The story of when three innocent black men were hanged and burned for supposedly assaulting a white woman. Despite having alibis. Despite the victim saying they were not her assailants. Springfield lost its entire black population as the residents fled in fear, never to return.
My family never told me that story. I only found it as an adult. And the beloved uncle? His father proudly took him to that lynching when he was ten years old and perched the child on his shoulders so he could get a good view. I only learned the last part when I confronted my mother with the article. She didn't think it was a big deal that I was never told.

Thank you for sharing these tragic events! I'm an Asian American here in Georgia, and racism affected the Asian community as well. My grandparents immigrated to the US as "Paper Sons" during the Chinese Exclusion Act, and my adopted family last name still bares the unfortunate mark of that racist era! As a child of the 1960's and as an adult now, I've witnessed first hand that racism directed at me personally. From what I see, it'll take generations for the scourge of racism to work its way out of our society!

Guy goes into a bar, there's a robot bartender. Since the minimum wage was increased to $15 the owner replaced his human bartender with a robot to stay in business.
      Robot:"What will you have?"
      Guy:"Martini."
Robot brings the best martini the guy has ever tasted and says,
      "What's your IQ?"
      Guy: "168."
The robot then proceeds to talk about physics, space exploration, and medical technology.
The guy leaves, but is curious, so returns to the bar.
      Robot: "What will you have?"
      Guy: "Martini."
Again robot brings a great martini and asks:
      "What's your IQ?"
      Guy: "100."
The robot then proceeds to discuss NASCAR, Budweiser, football, and John Deere tractors.
The guy leaves but, still curious returns to the bar.
      Robot: "What will you have?"
      Guy: "Martini."
Again robot brings a great martini and asks:
      "What's your IQ?"
      Guy: "Uh, about 50?"
The robot leans in real close and asks, " So, you people still happy you voted for Buy-dem?"

I learned about this and many other atrocities on my own. This was not taught in PG County MD schools where I grew up. However, When I had my own children, I sought out a school that would teach my babies, now grown-ups, about themselves and their ancestors. The lives they lived so the rest of their descendants can survive and thrive. I am not happy with The USA education curriculum. Now, I have a grandbaby and she will know that her blood ancestors put up with a lot of BS to make sure she had life and lived it fully. Shame on those that purposely do not know, want to know, or understand who the phuck they are.

No one makes someone act in a way that these ppl acted… whenever there is a riot due to something that occurred to a black person … no excuse is good enough for black ppl to riot…but for white ppl they had a good reason… get the absolute FU@ out of here!!

*The tradition of **_Sundown Towns_** that still existed today across America has ensured that colored and non-white folks are kept out of the American Dream. Those ancestors and recent migrants who came from Europe on arrival in the USA, would automatically become integrated into one race of folks called "White" as long as your skin color is white regardless of the vastly differing culture and languages they have respectively, or rankings in economic status. The American Race of **_White Folks_** have the socio-economic privileges of easy access and treatment afforded to them individually, in terms of organized groupings and institutionally.*

True, but think about the NUMEROUS number of other natives that took land from other natives. This is how life works, y’all don’t say anything about natives killing and enslaving natives for prosperity, you only care because white people did it. You can’t judge the standards today by those of the past, for every 5 white slave owners there was one black one. Blacks in Africa hunted their own and traded them to America and other parts of the world. The US was one of the very first countries to ban slavery… a war was fought with white republicans against white democrats, blacks also joined and fought with either side. Baffled that people think white people are evil, when it was whites AND blacks enslaving blacks and white AND blacks fighting the racist democrats. It is easier to brainwash someone than to convince someone that’s been brainwashed.

Meanwhile, every year in the United States, we average 2,500 black on black murders. FBI statistics show only 20% are ever solved because black witnesses will refuse to testify or snitch on each other. Maybe they can pay themselves reparations.

    • @janejohnson6912

Why when the conversation is being discussed about black people does this aways come up. Are the native Americans talking about black people? Black people always include Native Americans and POC in their discussions but Native Americans never support the discussion when its about black Americans. And their atrocities? Why does it have to be more than that for right now? Why?
