Asgore is one of the most under-rated and misunderstood characters in all of Undertale, with a level of complexity levelling fan favorites like Sans. Glad to see him get some love!
Honestly, I vehemently disagree. He’s absolutely underrated, but calling him misunderstood is a stretch. He’s caught between an impossibly huge rock and an unyielding, mercilessly hard place. And what does he do? He faces an agonizing choice with a level of compassion and consideration that none of us could even begin to fully grasp. He places the needs of his country on the same scale as his morals and comes to a resolution. He couldn't bring himself to storm the humans above, nor could he abandon his post-perhaps even out of necessity due to Toriel's abdication. Instead, he made the heartbreaking decision to kill all humans who fell into his domain, hoping one day to shatter the barrier. Tragically, all who fell were children. But here’s the thing-his decision to end the lives of those children, no matter how morally damning, had a deeper, painfully justifiable reason. He wrestled with a choice that might have driven others to despair, yet despite his guilt, he never grew hardened, even in the face of his race’s validation. He always felt the weight of his actions, and that speaks volumes about the kind of person he is. Despite the vast difference between his kind and humanity, he was human enough to know that what he was doing was unforgivable. Honestly, I find it sickening that people call him the bad guy when Toriel ran from her duty, abandoned her people, and failed the very children she claimed to protect-evidenced by the items from the Patience soul scattered around the ruins.
The somber, lonely king of the Underground, losing everything just to save his own kingdom. His children dying, his wife turning away from his declaration. Just watering the flowers of the throne room for a long, long time. Killing hapless children just to secure a way to destroy the barrier. The lonely king of the mountain, to rule alone. Either to die to the blade of a child carrying a similar soul to their human child or a pellet of what remains of his son, or to live… A somewhat better life of finally leaving the underground. Beautiful song for Mr. Goat Father, well done!
I love the "Hush my child" section because it perfectly encapsulates what is so tragic about Asgore and the six human souls, how he knows what he's doing is wrong ("For this I repent"), but he thinks he must for the underground, and how the six humans basically had no other way they could have gone.
I love love love how the chorus sounds like echos as if asgore has said this a thousand times to convince himself of the reasoning he continues to be the monster that he is. For whatever reason it ties so well into the ending in which asgore refuses to live and flowey doesn't kill him so that the child may live the life they choose.
"If i had a nickle for every time evidentlyfresh made a song about a tragic king character, I'd have 2 nickles, which isn't a lot, but it's cool it happened twice, right?"

Preemptive before listening: I personally think that Asgore is such a underrated character and I’m really glad he’s getting some love, honestly his story is really powerful. After listening: oh my god you captured exactly what I love about Asgore’s story, because sure he wants out of the underground but he’s never kill children unless it was for his people, because like he is a king eternally devoted to the wants and needs of his people.
Damn this was good. All the things Asgore must've felt, and maybe should've spoken out loud, in one song. This is something I really appreciated about Glitchtale - Toriel's own missteps were finally adressed. She got to feel high and mighty, since she never stained her hands with blood the way Asgore did - but while she too was grieving the loss of her children, the fact of the matter is that she failed as queen of the monsters. She left when Asgore needed her most, and when her people needed her most. As much as Asgore's actions disgusted her, rightfully so if I may add, she was also the only one left who could've steered him away from that path. When push came to shove, she put her own needs above those of her kingdom, whereas Asgore was willing to live with the guilt that came with knowingly taking innocent lives for the sake of his kind. This gets even worse if she left before the first human after Chara fell, before Asgore crossed that line.
If Undertale was a show or mini series, this would be on its incredible cinematic OST. This song is what makes the audience understand the gravity of what Asgore has to face and the burden he shoulders alone. This is how you show them the choices he was left with and how it feels to walk the path he chose. I agree with others here that Asgore doesn't get enough attention in the fandom. He kinda creeps me out but I love him so dearly as a character. This song finally shows a taste of that private pain behind his outward strength, and the devotion to his cause underneath his fluffy buns.
monsters are made of magic, a reflection of their souls. they're much more impacted by feelings and intent. they way they talk about hope throughout the game makes me wonder just what would have happened to them had asgore not restored their hope. we know the humans before us could save and load due to various pieces of dialogue and text in the game (toriel telling us when she meets humans, she feels as though she's met them before. asgore solemnly nodding when we tell him he's killed us already.) The royal guard doesnt seem very capable of putting down a human, and asgore waits for humans to come to him and decide to fight. so every human who's died has chosen death over living in the underground. When Chara fell, they chose to live in the underground, and it gave the monsters hope. But every other human made a different choice. Asgore's evil was a necessary one, and its tragic. That's why he's my favorite character, even if Toby and much of the fanbase underappreciates him.
Ice jumpscare (I told them new evidentlyfresh song just dropped as soon as i got the notification for it lol) Seriously though I agree with all of this, it sums up his character so, so well
Asgore reigns uncontested as my favorite character from the series, and he sees so little love or even acknowledgement when it comes to media like this, other people have justified why he doesn't deserve that far better than I can. I absolutely adore your work, and this is no exception. Thank you for this wonderful piece of art.
i love these songs, not just because they're bangers, but also for the lyrical significance on them. this one just encapsulates asgore's belief on his kingly duty despite the tragedy it causes, caused by the tragedy of his own. GOD i love these songs
Holy shit-- this fits Asgore so well. He's one of my favourite characters from Undertale, and holy hell, the vibes here are perfect-- it fits the sorrowful, genuinely tragic feel of his character, his loneliness, the fate of monsterkind on his shoulders and nobody else to assist him... coupled with the darkest parts of him as he murders human children for the sake of his kindgom's freedom..
Ah i love this! It wonderfully shows how hurt he was when humans took everything from him AGAIN and then shows his regret and sadness at what he does wonderful
The tragedy of flawed retribution, a debt to be repaid by those untainted, undarkened by the sin committed by the many and the few alike, a gateway opened to heaven by acts unforgivable, captured in a lovely, haunting tune *chef's kiss*
You're so real for this. I actually gasped when I saw this and listening to it genuinely brings a tear to my eye, especially since Asgore's one of my favorite characters so this is really doing it for me.
this is really good, or rather, this may be your most emotional performance so far which makes this really special, and also asgore is one if not my fav ut character, but i dunno if this song really fits him as well as i hoped. if your intention was to portray the moment asgore was really angry and wanted to kill anyone at all, aka right after chara and asriel's deaths, this is perfectly fitting. but id say that attitude only last briefly, caused by the moment of it all, and quickly dissipated real fast. i was hoping you'd actually try to portray asgore's actual situation on the matter, since a lot of the fandom has a big misunderstanding about him, that his deal is that "he is a tragic charcter because he is the most non violent person in the cast, but he is willing to kill kids for his people". this would be really neat, but there's actually another layer to it too. the actual only reason he even fights the kids is absolutely NOT because he wants to free his people. in game we get confirmation from gerson that asgore has actually no intention to break the barrier at all. he is desperately hoping no kids ever come again, and just let his people live in a safe hopeful situation of a future freedom that will never come. the actual reason the kids ended up dead is because THEY want to kill him, because they need his soul to escape, so the asgore fights are actually mainly out of self defence from the kids, on top of the situation of the kingdom. this is further proven because we literally see that, as soon as a single kid, frisk, actually manages to tell him they dont want to fight (asgore started the battle assuming frisk was like all the other ones), asgore drops down everything and immediately offers to adopt them if they want to. and when he cant stand it, he drops all the "important plans" of "killing humans" which were never real in a heartbeat, and commits suicide for the kid who actually didnt want to kill him (and even if the plans were real, he can..just wait for the kids to die naturally, which is much more convenient). even more proofs, toriel seals herself in the ruins so that the humans will HAVE to kill asgore if they want to leave, and she lies to them by not mentioning she is tecnically another key to escape, or that there is a barrier at all. the first thing toriel does in the pacifist ending is actually her realizing sending human kids to kill asgore is actually really fucked up and apologizes to asgore about it.
Possibly my favorite one yet; very well done and captures the essence of Asgore without being overblown or losing the fact that even though he's guilty, he's still willing to kill you. And, it just sounds good, so yes, well done.
Poor Asgore.... And a beautiful song! I've said this many times before but... GreaGreat Fresh! The music, your singing and your art are all very very pretty!

Reading the description... Hm, Asgore and the Pale King are quite similar in some ways, it's a little sad a lot of the community hates that latter too much to see the traces of that. Either way I'm glad you repurposed this song, even though it was likely rather different before (maybe it wasn't even written for the Pale King), I believe this is fine for Asgore.

THIS IS SO GOOD!!!! Your amazing harmonies gave me literal chills! And the tone of the song is perfectly consistent with the vibe of Asgore's boss fight theme, and also does a great job putting into perspective the situation of one of the best, most underrated Undertale characters! New sub, 10/10 ❤
so we've had two kings so far now, The King from ISAT and Asgore from Undertale to me, in card deck terms The King could be viewed as the king of diamonds and Asgore could be viewed as the king of hearts this means that next we need the Spade King from Deltarune (as the king of spades obviously) and a fourth king for the king of clubs (maybe the Pale King from Hollow Knight?). then we'll finally have a full deck UuO /silly
I know I already left a comment on this video, BUT - As someone else already said, the chorus sounds like it's echoes, as if Asgore is reciting this to himself over and over again. But it also reminds me of that one bit of dialogue in New Home. King Asgore will let us go King Asgore will set us free King Asgore will save us all And it's said by three Loox...Looxes? And this song, more specifically the chorus gives the same energy...good job. And good job reader, for making it through this comment which was vety random
Thank you, for making this song, unpopular opinion Asgore is my favorite, character that I feel like is pushed aside scaliness I feel most people get his character wrong like they they do with Character, which I also feel like you got her character well not an evil villain, but a malicious karma for the player and Asgore being this king who feels like he needs to do the bad things for his kingdom despite hating it which is why he so somber in his song, keep up the great work 🎵👍
Since everyone will point out the good side, I will mention my nitpick. This doesn't have enough "I did horrible thing" kind of feeling from Asgore. Well... I completely aware this song trying to pan out different aspects, and i have to say you did a great job!
yeah I was more so going for when his children first died, and he made the rash and furious decision to declare war.. not the Asgore we see in the game with Frisk!
Just saw the description, you need to make the hollow knight version of this!!!!!! I’m starved for them. If you take recommendations, do one for Hornet in that sad style.
HOLD ON- I just realized the first part of the second verse is Asgore talking to Asriel as he dies...and the second part as Asgore talking to one of the kids...oh god the implications...
@@knights4eva981 I'm not talking about that part, I'm talking about the second verse - when he goes "Hush my child I know it hurts so lay down your head and rest Heaven awaits you, I'll see you soon!" is talking to Asriel as he dies, and then when he repeats it, but changes head to weapon and "I'll see you soon" to "For this I repent" I think he's talking to one of the human kids right before he collects their soul -

They have taken it again,
The hopeful lives that we have built.
You know this was
their last chance...
Yet protest.
You know we're at our wits end,
I beg you,
What did you expect?
For me to let it go
Once more ?
Not again...
Declaration
Is not enough
For the pain they've caused.
Justice wait for no one
And neither will I.
Can't you see
Their smiles start to fade?
Can't you see
That they all must be SLAIN
Can't you see
I'm doing this for us ?
Yet you turn away
In disgust.
I'll rule alone,
Rule for hope,
Rule for freedom.
I'll rule alone,
Kill for hope,
For my kingdom.
Hush my child...
I know
It hurts, so
Lay down
Your head, and rest,
Heaven
Awaits you
I'll see you.
HUSH MY CHILD
I KNOW
THIS HURTS, SO
LAY DOWN
YOUR WEAPON
HEAVEN
AWAITS YOU
FOR THIS I REPENT
I'll rule alone,
Rule for hope,
Rule for freedom.
I'll rule alone,
Kill for hope,
For my kingdom.

this is really good, or rather, this may be your most emotional performance so far which makes this really special, and also asgore is one if not my fav ut character, but i dunno if this song really fits him as well as i hoped. if your intention was to portray the moment asgore was really angry and wanted to kill anyone at all, aka right after chara and asriel's deaths, this is perfectly fitting. but id say that attitude only last briefly, caused by the moment of it all, and quickly dissipated real fast. i was hoping you'd actually try to portray asgore's actual situation on the matter, since a lot of the fandom has a big misunderstanding about him, that his deal is that "he is a tragic charcter because he is the most non violent person in the cast, but he is willing to kill kids for his people". this would be really neat, but there's actually another layer to it too. the actual only reason he even fights the kids is absolutely NOT because he wants to free his people. in game we get confirmation from gerson that asgore has actually no intention to break the barrier at all. he is desperately hoping no kids ever come again, and just let his people live in a safe hopeful situation of a future freedom that will never come. the actual reason the kids ended up dead is because THEY want to kill him, because they need his soul to escape, so the asgore fights are actually mainly out of self defence from the kids, on top of the situation of the kingdom. this is further proven because we literally see that, as soon as a single kid, frisk, actually manages to tell him they dont want to fight (asgore started the battle assuming frisk was like all the other ones), asgore drops down everything and immediately offers to adopt them if they want to. and when he cant stand it, he drops all the "important plans" of "killing humans" which were never real in a heartbeat, and commits suicide for the kid who actually didnt want to kill him (and even if the plans were real, he can..just wait for the kids to die naturally, which is much more convenient). even more proofs, toriel seals herself in the ruins so that the humans will HAVE to kill asgore if they want to leave, and she lies to them by not mentioning she is tecnically another key to escape, or that there is a barrier at all. the first thing toriel does in the pacifist ending is actually her realizing sending human kids to kill asgore is actually really fucked up and apologizes to asgore about it.

Great job, really shows Asgore's intentions and feelings as the King of Monsters. Undertale is such an inspiring game, keep up the amazing work!
This is one of you best wow it's so good and emotional
And I missed this one too! Aw c'mon! This isn't fair 😭
THIS IS SO UNDERRATED. BRAVOOO❤
so we've had two kings so far now, The King from ISAT and Asgore from Undertale
to me, in card deck terms The King could be viewed as the king of diamonds and Asgore could be viewed as the king of hearts
this means that next we need the Spade King from Deltarune (as the king of spades obviously) and a fourth king for the king of clubs (maybe the Pale King from Hollow Knight?). then we'll finally have a full deck UuO /silly
OMG, hooray
Asgore!!
My little brother JUST asked me if you had an Asgore song!! Looks like you do. Thank you so much for yet another masterpiece!!❤
This is amazing
Great song! I also really liked the art for this song.
Asgore is my favorite character. A truly tragic hero forced to do terrible things for the good of his people.
A wonderful song, like all the others ❤❤❤❤ Keep going!
I was just listening to your music all of yesterday, AND NOW I SEE THIS? HOORAAYYYY
I know I already left a comment on this video, BUT - As someone else already said, the chorus sounds like it's echoes, as if Asgore is reciting this to himself over and over again. But it also reminds me of that one bit of dialogue in New Home.
King Asgore will let us go
King Asgore will set us free
King Asgore will save us all
And it's said by three Loox...Looxes?
And this song, more specifically the chorus gives the same energy...good job.
And good job reader, for making it through this comment which was vety random
Thank you, for making this song, unpopular opinion Asgore is my favorite, character that I feel like is pushed aside scaliness I feel most people get his character wrong like they they do with Character, which I also feel like you got her character well not an evil villain, but a malicious karma for the player and Asgore being this king who feels like he needs to do the bad things for his kingdom despite hating it which is why he so somber in his song, keep up the great work 🎵👍
fire as always
Since everyone will point out the good side, I will mention my nitpick.
This doesn't have enough "I did horrible thing" kind of feeling from Asgore.
Well... I completely aware this song trying to pan out different aspects, and i have to say you did a great job!
yeah I was more so going for when his children first died, and he made the rash and furious decision to declare war.. not the Asgore we see in the game with Frisk!
oooo asgore song. nice!
Can’t you see my face?
Can you see my smile?
It’s not there.
I’m am lost…
This is amazing! Thank you for your hard work. Hats off to you.

WAKE UP. NEW EVIDENTLYFRESH SONG
I love the red on the outside of him showing how he looks like a bloodthirsty monster, but the interior is white showing he has good intentions
This brings me back to my undertale days gave me chills
I've been exited for an ASGORE song since i found your channel!!!
Asgore is so underrated and a comfort character to me thank you so much!!❤
Did you change your PFP??? I saw it at first like a face made of lines and dots, now duolingo on the game of thrones throne
New amazing song yeah! Good morning to everyone (for me it 7 o'clock)
The part of
Hush My chile
Really make me feel a Lot of sadness
Always feel like....i can't breath for those words, make me cries time to time
I don't even know what to say. That was incredible.
this is gonna make me cry every time i listen to it, won't it?
EvidentlyFresh is a banger machine
Just saw the description, you need to make the hollow knight version of this!!!!!!
I’m starved for them.
If you take recommendations, do one for Hornet in that sad style.
Gives off halllow knight vibes lol
Can you explain this please?
@@workerofthemonth the instrumental reminds me of hallow knight
HYPE !?!?

900th Like. 🗿(Epic video.)
Pretty good song, asgore is a underrated character.
AY! AGAIN
@@ReoGojira Yessir and sorry for late reply, I didn't got notification.
@@DarthMechagodzilla266 it's alright
Мені так подобається як ти пишеш текста. Вони божественні
I like this song becuse it feels sorrowful but also like I should keep going
It also is like Asgore someone doing something they know is bad for what they feel is right while still feeling the remorse of their actions
HOLD ON- I just realized the first part of the second verse is Asgore talking to Asriel as he dies...and the second part as Asgore talking to one of the kids...oh god the implications...
I believe the first part he's talking to Toriel: "Can't you see I'm doing this for us? Yet you turn away in disgust. I'll rule alone."
@@knights4eva981 I'm not talking about that part, I'm talking about the second verse - when he goes "Hush my child I know it hurts so lay down your head and rest Heaven awaits you, I'll see you soon!" is talking to Asriel as he dies, and then when he repeats it, but changes head to weapon and "I'll see you soon" to "For this I repent" I think he's talking to one of the human kids right before he collects their soul -
@@rxndomfxndom7405 Ah yeah, that makes sense
@@knights4eva981 It's OK, I get it might have been worded weirdly
Btw you remind Me of khttll13
FIFTH!
