I guess all the mess is based on the failed separation plan in 1948. Maybe the British shouldn't leave so quickly. They and the UN had to fulfill this plan. These documentaries never state that the 1948 'arab Israeli war' was started by arabs. From the beginning, they would not accept a Jewish state, tried by violence to eradicate the Jews and lost. They lost that and the six day war; that's why they are in the position they are in. By the end of July 1948, 170,000 people, notably new immigrants and ex-soldiers, in addition to about 40,000 former tenants...have been housed in premises under the custodian’s control; and 7,000 shops, workshops, and stores were sublet to new arrivals. The existence of these Arab houses - vacant and ready for occupation - has to a large extent, solved the greatest immediate problem which faced the Israeli authorities in the absorption of immigrants.

The arab state in Palestine according to the UN 1947 plan was not impossible all it needed was arab approval and today there would be an arab palestine state in 45 % of the land - the arabs thought they could get it all though war and they lost .
When compromises and peace are rejected by the Palestinian leaders, there won't be peace or compromises. Then you get walls and things like that.
