I love her podcast, Curious Cases of Rutherford and Fry, all about science questions, and so funny. She gets so excited when they're discussing mathematics.
If you go past the actual and real differences between US-EN and ENG-EN, and their localisations, you can devote *_SO_* much more times on their gramatical errors, and bad knowledge of the rest of the world. Trust me, they will never do anything on math, color, the assasination of the word Leicestershire or the abortion of the word Worcestershire, other than argue that they're correct; which they are. US-EN is a derivation, -nay, bastardisation- of our glorious languge. But you can always catch them out on grammar and their US-centric views. Earlier today I had some nitwit comment "didnt you guys go through four prime ministers this year?" I resoundly sent that nincompoop to bed without supper.
The Oxford English Dictionary summarizes the situation for words like this as follows: The names of sciences, even though they have the form in -ics, are now construed as singular, as in ‘mathematics is the science of quantity’. The shortened version can be either math or maths depending on your local preference, but it is also singular. You don’t say “maths are subjects in school”, you say “maths is a subject in school”. Ah, the idiosyncrasies of English grammar. Americans and Canadians say it one way. The English say it a different way. Deal with it and don't get your knickers in a twist!
So the long word is Mathematics. It’s plural (the s at the end is a clue) so the shortened version is MATHS. Poor Dr Hannah having to smile like the professional she is while listening to Americans trying to speak a foreign language.
is ginger doing the ‘run to the u$a’ like Mahdi & Tubbs Corden & the rest ? is she planning on revisiting her opinions on the fully tested safe & effective stuff now that we all know that it wasn’t. will she be apologising for enabling untold real life harms ?

i have such a crush on Professor Fry
Its not just me then
@@MrPhiliplock No, it's very many out there for sure, me included.
Me too I've interviewed Hannah for my Degree 😅
Those guys are like, go on, go on, when she starts talking about her dating life 🤣
The word is maths.Note is is a plural, the clue is the last letter. It does not become singular by abbreviating the word
Hannah Fry is painfully gorgeous
To right
That’s a beautiful woman!! 🔥🔥💐💐❤️🔥❤️🔥
Maths, mathematics. Americans!

Love knows no logic
I love Hannah, but it's maths not math!
Its ‘Maths’ not ‘Math’
I think Peter Backus’ thesis debunks Dr Fry’s TED Talks “Mathematics of Love.”
So the long word is Mathematics. It’s plural (the s at the end is a clue) so the shortened version is MATHS.
