    The Iron Horse series of John Deere is probably the greatest tractors ever made.

    Good video. I use a 4440 pulling a 1760 planter. This year makes 39 crops that tractor has planted for me. No satellite--markers only.

      We had up till this year a 4440 (still have that). And a 2300 kinze this year picked up more ground so we upgraded our 2300 to a 1770 ccs with precision tech. And now our tillage tractor (7200R) is going to be doing tillage and planting well it currently is as we speak as it’s April

    Love the sound of the Iron Horses, they were, and still are the best Horses JD made. I had the 4040, 4240 & the 4440 4WD for many years - though still run the 4040. They are easy to ride, easy to maintain, easy to work with & MOST reliable.
    Waiting to see more on Iron Horses in the future.

    I run a 4640 planting using a Star fire 3000 receiver on SF1 and a 2630 monitor hooked to an AT 300 on the steering column. Also use a precision 20/20 monitor and my IPad using Climate with delta force and electric V Drive vacuum units and 2 cameras on the planter with a monitor in the cab. The tractor is 41 years old and I’m 68! Was watching Millennial Farmer while planting beans the other day!

    We ran that exact gps setup on our old 4960 for a year back in 2012 and loved it. The next year we upgraded to a 8130 and went from sf1 to rtk and took over planting crops as we had to contract it out before we upgraded the tractor. The only difference we had a separate switch that we tied into the system that was used to activate it instead of the way they do it in the video

  • @RustyCarnahan
    @RustyCarnahan 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    I think you mis-spoke a little bit saying the 4440 was 90 HP.
    In fact, the 4040 was 90 HP, and was the last hurrah of the 404 engine.
    The 4240 was a 110 HP Naturally Aspirated 466
    The 4440 was 130 HP 466 Turbo
    The 4640 was 150 HP 466 Turbo, intercooled
    The 4840 was 180 HP turbo, intercooled.
    The 4840 took the place of the 6030 in the high horsepower row crop tractor market, and is part of the reason why the 6030 was rated at 175 HP instead of the 200+ HP it actually produced. Deere rated it at 175 so that the 4840 would look more appealing to Farmers looking to upgrade, even though the 6030 used a turbocharged intercooled 531 as opposed to the 4840's turbocharged intercooled 466.

    You had one mistake in the narration Jason. The 90 HP tractor was the 4040, not the 4440. A lot of 4's to say. I know you know the right order i just wanted to let you know of the error. The 4440 was 130 hp if i recall. The farm i worked for when i was a teenager had a fleet of 40 series Deeres. 4040, 3 x 4440's, 2 x 4640's and a 4840. They got one of the last 4840's ever made and it had a 15 speed powershift.

    • @bigtractorpower
      @bigtractorpower  5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Well darn. It took about 6 times recording that line to get it where I wanted it. I missed that I said 4440 instead of 4040. Sometimes I repeat the same line so many times I don’t here a slip up like this one.

    Wrong my friend. Organic just means that you can't/don't use Petro poisons or fertilizer. Organic growers were fertilizing with added natural minerals decades before "conventional" farmers did so. We use organic manures, aerobic compost teas to inoculate the soil probiotics, compost, compost teas, etc.

    • @bigtractorpower

      I should have clarified dry chemical fertilizer in my narration. This farm uses chicken litter to fertilizer ahead of corn.

    • @ktrocknerd
      @ktrocknerd 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      There are at least 25 SYNTHETIC pesticides approved for organic farming. Maybe THIS farm doesn't use any, but don't fool yourself, organic uses more applications at much higher doses of less effective pesticides and then markets their product as healthier.

    • @landaroon7793
      @landaroon7793 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ktrocknerd One reason I don't support organic in general. The poisons are supposed to be less persistent which would theoretically a less toxic food, but the organic growers I know don't use them anyway.
      Additionally, the Big Ag people and government are breaking the law and raping organic standards. Hell, in Texas a couple years ago, industry wanted some things loosened up and the chairman refused to go along. So they LITERALLY got police to forcibly remove him, put in a temporary illegal chairperson...
      They also, by law MUST place real farmers in some specific positions but have corporate CFOs in those slots...
      If you want tybest food, grow it yourself, no poisons at all, and use a permaculture template to always increase your fertility and nutrition.

      It must hurt to be SOwrong, lol. The GMOs aren't nutritionally superior. Even the FDA/USDA say golden rice is a bust.
      GMO promised saline resistance and failed. Normal seed development succeeded.
      GMO promised drought resistance and failed. Normal seed development succeeded.
      GMO promised increased yields. Not happening. The high yields come from extremely intense, timed, fertilization and poisoning.
      GMO promised medicine in food. IDIOCY!!! Oh - Uncle Joe died at Thanksgiving because nobody knew the cranberries had drugs that caused a fatal reaction to his heart meds.
      The first GMO in the US (1989) was an l-tryptophan supplement that killed over 120 Americans from eiosinophilic myalgia syndrome. Permanently screwed up the CNS systems of about 1,000 people, temp CNS damage to about 10,000.
      Less than 10 yes ago a GMO soil bacteria was engineered that came within about 3 weeks of killing the planet. Klebsiella Plantigo was made to make alcohol. That KILLS ROOTS/PLANTS. Klebsiella grows INSIDE roots. It is found in virtually all planetary soils where plants grow. When released, (the 3 weeks) the genetic contamination of natural Klebsiella would be inevitable. All the plants on the planet would die.
      The study was done in Oregon and was not released because EVERY TEST PLANT IN GMO KLEBSIELLA CULTURE DIED whereas no control plants died.

    You are mistaken in saying that organic crops do not rely on pesticides, herbicides or fertilizers to grow, they simply rely on other chemicals to do that than traditional farming. And yes I said "chemicals" because everything is a chemical. There is a long list of chemicals that can be used on organic crops and still meet the guidelines for whatever labeling they seek.

    Just have to say, it's hard to believe that s 40 years old tractor. Always liked the look of sg-cab Deeres. That's shame those are pretty rare in here Finland, because those were too big and expensive when new, but sometimes you can see American deere. Most of that age john deeres are German made 1640-3040. (or 50-series same size models later)

      @@bigtractorpowerFrom 5-series models to 8r-series, don't know about 8rt-series, but i think you can order 8rt or even 9r/rt/rx If you want or need, but i think here isn't any of those models.
      I personally have seen only two articulated 4wd Deeres in Finland, both were 8440 or 8640 model, i know there is few more 4wd's, 30, 40 and 50 series.
      I don't know is here any 60-, 70-, 9000, 9020, 9030 or 9r-series 4wd articulated or tracked tractor.
      I'm pretty sure you CAN'T find all 30, 40, 50, 55 or 60 series 2wd/fwa models from Finland, some models of those series are missing here.
      In Sweden is much more American Deeres, both new and old models.
      I have readed from somewhere that those JD (as well as other brands) cabs with one door was illegal in Finland at 70's because there isn't emergency exit on it.
      I'm not sure, but i think they have to modified cabs to have 2 Doors on those days.
      Today it isn't problem, because many tractors have only one door and maby regulations are different today.
      I have also seen couple 8000t and 8010t models here.
      Hope you understand my bad english 😁

    Lol he says he likes running classic equipment... Hahaha that's only because he hasn't had a chance to run an R series yet. I know there is no question in my mind what tractor I'm hooking up with when I head to the field for a long day there is just no comparison auto steer or not... Don't get me wrong I still like our 4440 I grew up inside that tractor! and I'll use it for little jobs but my days off sitting 15 hours in it are OVER! The new tractors are just so much more spacious and comfortable. Hell our new s670 has a refrigerator (I know that's nothing new) and heated and ventilated leather seats, XM radio backup and unload cameras all I'm missing is a microwave! Haha

      Alex trust me he has driven the newest of the new 2019 machines up to 620 hp. He is out running an S790 on the family farm right now cutting wheat. The farm runs for 8 S790s for wheat and 5 for corn and 6 for soybeans. If you watch my 2018 video of the wheat harvest you will see 7 S790s cutting wheat in a row towards the end of the video I climb up in the cab of one and out operator of the 4840 is behind the wheel of the S790. • @bigtractorpower
      @bigtractorpower  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      They should have no problem pulling a 7200. A farm in the town I grew up in upgraded from a 7000 12 row to a 7200 12 row in 1992. That farm uses a 1066 to pull the 7200. Now a new 1775NT 5e, a 1790 or 1795 Deere planter requires a bunch of hydraulics and a 40 series would not be a good match for those.

    must be planting in 4th gear. We were wondering if you could fit in that cab. lol Also our 4840 has a thumb release to get out of the cab instead of that lever. The only gps in ours is a light bar. set your AB and go at it. We pull a kinze 16/31 push pull and it pulls it just fine except going up a steep hill on freshly cut wheat. It wants to spin because of how slippery the straw is.
