Oh....Libby is about to be on fire this year. Audio books are a life saver because I f*'cked up and did not marry a billionaire and I have to work for a living. Write this down (in my Cara Romero voice)....find a rich husband so you can sit around a read all day. My top 3 books were...The Weight of Blood, Mean Streak by Sandra Brown, and Restore Me by J.L. Seegars. 😊

Not you wanting to talk to 108 people to warn them about a book.🤣 I’m so happy I’ve found your channel! You’ve got a new subscriber based on that alone‼️🤣

Hi Dezmond. The Vanishing Half was so good! SUBBED!

The Vanishing Half!! 🎊🎊🎊. That book has stuck with me. Every time I think of that book I have feelings. Loved how you put it on the board.
And I just bought Black Cake last night, hoping to feel the same as you!
You are so well read. That’s what I’m aiming for this year. I’ve mostly been reading mysteries/thrillers. I picked up The Vanishing Half because I thought it was a mystery, and that surpassed all the other books I’d been reading. I’ve been getting into historical fiction, but there are so many books you read this last year that I’ve had my eye on. A thriller is always an easy fast read that gets me reading, but I’m just looking for more now. I’m currently reading The Fervor by Alma Katsu. The horror bits are good, but what’s interesting to me is the history, the social issues, and then the frustration I get for Japanese people, I wish I had known the depths of that part of our history sooner.
Great video, this was better than watching a top ten list for sure.
Off the top of my head I think my favorite books this year were When the Reckoning Comes, This Might Hurt (I’m in the minority with this book) and Such a Pretty Smile. These are all books that have stayed with me, made me think. An honorable mention to Daughter by Kate McLaughlin. Was probably the only YA I read, it’s gotten no coverage, glad I didn’t shut it off after the first chapter cause I started thinking it wasn’t for me, but it was. It was done right and the main character was dealing with an impossible situation in such a classy way.

If you’re getting into historical fiction, Take My Hand was one of the best ones I read last year. I’m not sure if you’ve read that one or not.
When the Reckoning Comes sounds kinda heavy, but interesting. I think I might check that one out.

@@DezmondZ I have Take My Hand, I must read it this year. I purposely bought the regular edition cause the book was so beautiful I didn’t want the book of the month logo. That subject is a tough one, but I’m really glad the book was written, I know I need to read it.
When the Reckoning Comes is pretty heavy, it’s shocking, the human aspects were more horrific. I’m white, my son is white and Mexican. I felt like it’s a book I should read, and after I read it I felt like everyone should, like it should be a high school class book. There is one scene that’s especially gory, that’s the only reason why my son hasn’t read it yet. The scene should be there, my son just needs a few years. His best friend is black, his mom and I talked about it. We didn’t grow up in the south; never been to a plantation, never seen a confederate monument, never been to a reenactment etc., so we had a really interesting talk about how I talk to my kid and how she talks to hers, how we expose them to things differently but also the same. She wants him to know everything, and feels it’s as important cause he didn’t grow up around these things. I worry about him, although that’s not my place and ignorant, he’s just such a good kid, such a kind person, I never want anything to touch him. I know that’s (frustratingly) impossible. The other thing about a novel like that is it made me feel so much, but the people I feel really need to read it, that it might give them a different perspective, probably won’t, that’s something I always think about with books that are that real. (And by that I didn’t mean you, just don’t want to get political in your comment section). If you do end up reading it the audiobook sets the scene so well, it completely added to the novel in my opinion.
