For this build: This is a Strength/Faith build that utilizes their Claymore to destroy the demi-gods with their mastery of weapon skills, flame-based melee techniques and buffs. I wanted to create something that felt like what a canonical Tarnished's arsenal would look like though I did take some personal liberties with it. For one, my weapon of choice was a Claymore as opposed to the Tarnished's Canon weapon, the Bastard Sword. This is for two reasons: 1. The Claymore was the first weapon I used in Dark Souls III, so, nostalgia. 2. The Claymore has some really nice thrusting attacks which is always useful. I use two Claymores interchangeably, usually having one set to Heavy affinity and one set to Fire affinity, though on occasion I will use two Heavy affinity. For basic combat, I buff with Golden Vow and Flame, Grant Me Strength and I make consistent use of Black Flame Blade to burn damage over time (D.o.T) with each strike of my Claymore. When using this incantation, I will typically one-hand my weapon though I do still two-hand, particularly if I want to do higher stance damage. The Ashes of War I use with this build are thematic and powerful. Lion's Claw (a technique of Radahn's Redmanes) is a heavy front flip slam that deals high stance damage and can be made even more powerful by buffing with Black Flame Blade to deal lingering D.o.T. Eruption (a technique used by knights of the Volcano Manor), deals a heavy slam and upward strike leaving a pool of lava in its wake to deal D.o.T. Flaming Stirke (another technique of the Redmanes) launches a wave of flame and can be followed up with a sweeping slash, imbuing one's weapon with fire. Storm Blade (a skill with ties to Stormveil and the Storm Lord before the Age of the Erdtree) slashes air releasing a projectile of wind, but its real potential is lies in buffing with Black Flame Blade. Because Storm Blade slashes so quickly, if used at point blank range, I deal the damage of the wind projectile and the blade and since the weapon is coated in Black Flames, it will leave burning over time for every strike, which is particularly devastating if I land so much as 3 Storm Blades in a row. My stats are 50 Vigor for general survivability in high NG+, 15 Mind (FP is mostly used for buffs and weapons skills that do not cost too much), 30 Endurance because I'm aggressive and to have two Claymores while med rolling, Strength is 73 (could be lower if I primarily two-handed, but since I one-hand often to use Black Flame Blade, I wanted more power), Dexterity is 13 for the minimum requirements of the Claymore, Intelligence doesn't matter, Faith is 30 because it is only being used buffing myself or my weapon and Arcane is irrelevant as well. My primary talisman set-up is 1. the Old Lord's Talisman to extend the duration of spell effects. This makes both Golden Vow last for 104 seconds, Flame, Grant Me Strength last 39 seconds and Black Flame Blade last roughly 9.5 seconds. While it is useful on the first two, it is especially useful on Black Flame Blade because those extra 2 seconds means another hit of %-based damage 2. Shard of Alexander because this build is very weapon skill-centric 3. Fire Scorption Charm to increase the power of Fire Damage, because this build is constantly dealing fire damage whether it is with Black Flame Blade slashes, Fire-affinity Claymore attacks or Black Flame-empowered Lion's Claw or Storm Blade, Flaming Strike or Eruption. 4. Carian Filligreed Crest to lower the cost of weapon skills because they are at the center of this build. For Wondrous Physick: the Flame Shrouding Cracked Tear and Stone Barb Cracked Tear (for additional fire damage by 20% and stance damage). The Drip: Raging Wolf Set with Scaled Gauntlets and Greaves for higher poise. How to improve this build: This section is going to be pretty variable if you were to take this build beyond RL150 depending on how you go about it. If you stick with strictly STR/Faith and the Heavy and Fire affinities like I did, you could push Strength to 80 increasing your AR to 682 with a Heavy Affinity and 758 when one handing. That is only a 4% increase in power for Heavy affinity and a 2% increase in power for Fire affinity (before buffs, talismans and physick). Beyond 150, go with Quality affinity and Strength and Dexterity to 80 for a AR of 776. (13% increase from Heavy)
Damn ng+7, it must be fun having all the good loot. I was on my 1st plathrough 2 years ago and then stopped playing. After completing the DS1 plat trophy last week, I will most likely get back into Elden Rings but need to finish DS2 & 3.
Yeah, this was one of my first runs of NG+7 come to think of it. Have done a lot since then. Part of the perks of that deep of an NG+ is being able to build pretty much whatever you like as long as you have the equipment.
@ironstark917 I'm aiming for at least NG+3 with Elden Rings when I get to it, and that's to create a really strong build, but I have a backlog to clear. The DS Trilogy, Bloodbourne, and possibly Sekiro. Also, my favourite weapon in the early game ER was the Claymore with Bloody Slash. Respected midgame to a 2x bonk build with Royal Knight, and then I left the game with a Moonveil Kitana build with Transient Moonlight and Glintstone Pebble. Do you think if I went back to Claymore build, it could carry me through to the endgame?
@@icandodgebullets7869 To be honest, any of those weapons could carry you through the endgame so long as you build your character around them. Like if you go with Moonveil, you'll want Shard of Alexander, Magic Scorpion Charm and Magic Shrouding Cracked Tear. If you go with the Claymore, go with high Strength, set it to the Heavy Affinity, get a solid weapon skill like Storm Blade or Lion's Claw or Flaming Strike, get Shard of Alexander, the Axe Talisman, Spiked Cracked Tear and Stonebarb Cracked Tear.
love the build. started elden ring a month ago and fell in love with the Claymore after getting it in Castle Morne. i'm really ass at builds lol, mine is a bit everywhere but primarily focuses on str/fth. thinking of taking some notes from your build as i go in the DLC later today (especially storm blade + black flame), thanks for this! :))
Ok I think you've convinced me to try a sword and board build with the Claymore, I love the concept you have going here and the fashion is on point as well. How did you like the Claymore moveset btw?
Thanks, Lionheart! And I'm looking forward to seeing that run from you. Truthfully, I enjoyed it. As someone who has used numerous greatswords, I found the thrusts were very much a welcome addition into their moveset which really set it apart from other greatswords which is while weapons like the Flamberge or Bastard Sword may get better AR (the Flamberge has innate bleed so my logic is that with Bloodflame Blade and my buffed Stormblade combo would seriously shred and Bastard Sword has better scaling), the Claymore's moveset still leaves more than enough reasons to use it. I think the next unique "normal" Greatsword I want to try is the Banished Knight's Greatsword because of that beautiful Hollowslayer R1 chain.
Nice build. Currently running a strength with claymore as my main. Believe I'll invest in some faith as well (after watching the video) to mix it up a bit and give myself some more AR and survivability. I believe you can cast Black flame blade much faster directly after a roll or dodge.
Thank you! And yeah, Spirit Ashes never really clicked with me since I'm something of a "Souls Vet" (I guess that's what we will call it since I've played and platinumed Bloodborne and Sekiro as well as beaten Dark Souls III 5 times). So by my first playthrough of Elden Ring, I didn't really use them until super late in my playthrough and then after my first playthrough, I didn't use them entirely. I also have a self-imposed rule of capping my builds at 150 in order to maintain the challenge of the game as I go through the NG+ cycles.
For reapplying buffs in combat easier just use the dpad after you buff to unequip the seal and then 2H. So when you need to rebuff its a simple d Pad press mid fight opposed to delayed action queing.
Decent advice and frankly one that I follow when the feeling arises. I also find two handing a bit awkward to switch to as well. This video is nearly a year old now though. Thanks for watching!

The short answer is yes, in terms of raw attack power on paper, a Flame Art Claymore with 80 Faith (and 80 Strength) will outperform a Fire Claymore marginally even before buffs. Flame Art would have 817 attack rating and Fire would have 793 (both when two handing). Because Flame Art would also make the Claymore lean more towards Fire damage than Physical damage, that also means it is going to be affected by things that buff Fire damage like Fire Scorpion, Flame Shrouding Cracked Tear and Flame, Grant me Strength to a greater extent than a Fire affinity Claymore which has a even 50/50. The only downside would be a Flame Art Claymore would struggle more against enemies that are resistant to Fire damage (particularly Mohg who has 80% Fire Resistance) but your solution there would be to either rely on your incantations that don't deal fire damage OR temporarily switch to the Heavy affinity.
