    Years ago, I was in a band that played this regularly. It's as much fun to play as it is to listen to.

    If this song doesn’t put a smile on your face, there is something seriously wrong with you! “Pure fun” was a perfect description! Great reaction!

    "The Beatles" were FUN because THEY had fun. Listen to the giggles during this -- including the two tossed in piano riffs.

    Desmond is named after reggae star Desmond Dekker who had had recent hits with Oo7 and The Isrealites His friend Jimmy Scott a West Indian musician used to greet Paul with Oblasi Obladah when he saw him
    It means life goes on

    The Beatles' range is ...astounding: heavy metal to Indian raga, proto-funk to avant garde, R&B/Soul to African/Caribbean, and so much more.
    But what is so poignant is the Beatles' deep immersion in the richness of World Music and cultures. Consider the smile-inducing love song to Afro-Caribbean music of Obladi Oblada, which also, strikingly, gives us a startlingly loving portrait of a Desmond and Molly Jones of the Diaspora who raise a family within a marriage of love and equality--"Desmond lets the children lend a hand....And in the evening she[Molly] still sings it with the band"--and the Beatles could see this in 1968!
    There is and can be no doubt that the Beatles, complicated as they were, were geniuses. But their legacy is not just one of otherworldly brilliance. It is also a legacy of Love.

      THEY WERE SIMPLY BEYOND DYNAMIC !!! THEY WERE PHENOMENAL, THEY WERE THE BEST OF THE BEST!!

    • @jnagarya519
      @jnagarya519 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      "The Beatles" made music. Period. They didn't do "genre" -- such a pretentious word. Those who attempt to get them down to their level attempt to pigeonhole them with that word. They transcended "genre'".

    • @renechateaubriand2645
      @renechateaubriand2645 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@jnagarya519 : I can agree with you that the Beatles transcended genres, and they did so out of dissenting artistic, political, and social-cultural motivations. In doing so, they defiantly and openly rejected racisms, imperialisms, gender norms, homophobia, and so many other dubious constructs, constraints, and captivities.
      But J Nagarya, as a professional musician, an American Ivy League graduate, and a biracial (North English-Latinx) Brit who lived through the Beatles' era, I REJECT your notion that any word of the English language is "pretentious" sui generis.
      Your claim that any given word, say, "genre," is "pretentious" is a bigoted, anti-intellectual, and actually wholly unsupportable position. Any discerning scholar, musician, or even thinking person will define and describe any given phenomena--languages, music, arts, geologies, biologies, via their PARTICULARITIES.
      The Beatles NOT have a problem with "genres," both the word itself and its relevant meaning (a category of artistic composition) but rather the UNJUST and IMPRISONING HIERARCHIES societies, and White racist societies in particular, impose on any kind of difference.
      Given my own fluency in music, my own academic bona fides, and my own personal history played out in the larger history of the past sixty years, i.e., growing up as a biracial in Britain AND the United States in the era of the Beatles, I reject categorically your reductive and intellectually unstainable position. The facts support you vis-à-vis the Beatles' eclecticism and political and social revolution they unleashed through that eclecticism. But your reductionism, anti-intellectualism, and hectoring and wholly unjustified attempt at condescension strikes the more discerning reader as right out of the Beatles "Mean Mr. Mustard."
      Do. Better.

      Actualy, the lyric tells us that a man puts on make up and transitions to a woman and then goes out and sings in a band (as a woman) that got me.

    Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da life goes on bra the “bra” is short for brother or “bro” with a Jamaican accent. Paul got the phrase from a Jamaican known as Jimmy Scott. That’s not his full name his full name is the quite a long name.

    Another great reaction! Love you guys! This will be the last time I'll mention this but your last week's BEATLES videos are too slow, starting with Can't Buy Me Love. I looked back at your uploads and the last one that was correct was ANGELINA JORDAN - HEAL THE WORLD SINGERS REACTION. After that, it is all Beatles and they are all recorded at the wrong speed. I don't know how you record but the only thing I can think of is that you do not have TH-cam Settings (the gear at the bottom of your screen) Playback Speed set to Normal. If you want to test it you could re-record the Beatles "While You Were Sleeping" and see if it is at a different speed than your first reaction. Again, sorry for mentioning this again (I see I'm not the only one) but I hope it helps. Your reactions are the best.

      Thank you sooo much our dear faithful subscriber and friend. We will definitely look into the speed as suggested. MOST TIMES WE ARE FACED WITH COPYRIGHT ISSES, WE HAVE OVER 7 REACTIONS THAT ARE COPY-RIGHT CLAIMED, but we are not giving up yet.

    This song is honestly hated by a lot of Beatles purists, now I personally who was born in 1982 love the song, cuz it's a happy song, The Beatles didn't write a whole lot of happy songs.
