  • It's a Wonderful World is a fun card drafting, engine builder game. So fun, in fact, that it is my favourite game of all time. This video just covers the base game and will give tips on how to build your engine from the start and what to build towards.

i already praised your work in the comments for your Burgundy videos with Pistol Star, but i also wanted to thank you for introducing me to this game! i thought i hated stereotypical euro engine-builders since everyone gushed over stuff like Terraforming Mars that i couldn't stand at all, but this one being much shorter helps a lot. i also like how streamlined it is in terms of mechanics etc. while still offering more meat than e.g. Splendor, and the fact that turn order isn't a thing at all (do *not* get me started on first-player advantage in so many of these games...). The drafting is great here too!
Would really like to see more specialized content in your strongest games which don't get much love elsewhere on TH-cam! Certain games in this sphere like Catan, Dominion & Twilight Struggle have a lot of high-level matches on here if you know where to look, some others have a decent amount out there...but this game seemed to have nothing until you showed up. i see some other guides and tournaments for Azul but haven't really found anyone who steadily uploads games, so that seems like another candidate.

Thanks Josh! You really won my wife over with that Terraforming Mars comment by the way.
I do really like your suggestion. I have done some live gameplay in the past and there's no reason I can't do more in the future. I agree that Azul and IAWW would be good candidates. Thanks for your input

Thank you Sam for your very interesting strategy guide ! I think it can help a lot beginners like me on the choices to make all along every game 😉 I guess drafting cards on the opening round are essential and permit to decide if we go on a yellow blue or green strategy 🙂

I watched this video to see if I could get some insifght I might have missed or spot I clearly prioritize wrong but it seems to me that I try and do the things you say but stil when I play this on BGA I keep getting scores mostly under 50. But I seem to do better when playing it live with my friends. Not crushing them but at least I am mostly a contender for first place.
Well well, just keep practicing then... =P

The average skill level on BGA is pretty high I would say. It's been on the site for over a year now and most regular players would have a few hundred games under their belt. I would guess some of it is due to them being more inclined to block what you are doing. There's a bit of luck in the game too, especially if you are playing at more than 2 players. Keep at it!

I know i am late to the party, but i hope you could provide some input on the matter. Do you feel like Aztec is at a disadvantage ? I mostly played 2p on BGA so far, so my perception might be heavily skewed, though i don't think my reasoning would change much at different player counts. Imo getting to start on blue is just harder than any other ressource, sure you get all the production phases before to get there once blue comes around, but as far as i can tell, you need to make the detour and build black cards first, while yellow and green don't have that problem. Not to mention that all these builds initially kinda hinge on white anyway. Still, so far, Aztec are my lowest scoring games by a good margin and i never feel like i am having a good start, no matter what draft is presented to me. My perception is that yellow strategies get hit quite hard in 4p, which in turn brings their scores down, so Aztec can contest them, but from what little i have played at that count, it still never "felt good".
So first of all, do you share that perception (esp. in 2p) ?
If so, do you think it's less of an issue, not present/less noticable in higher player counts ?
Does adding the expansion (i haven't played it yet) help the situation ?
Do you think skipping the white production on Aztec is the way to go ? I am torn about getting some white cards early (meaning i also contest early ressource generation for my opponent(s)) or just getting as much as i need to get additional cubes to get my black cards down and rely on the base production for the most part when it comes to white ? What i mean is, if you give your opponent who is starting with a good start for yellow all the white production, imo they can scale their yellow production much harder than you can scale your blue prodution, so either you are SLOW, or you can't scale well. I hope i have explained my perception well enough.

Most of my experience is playing with Side B - everyone starting with the same production. It does make the game more balanced and less prone to losing instantly if you have a poor opening draft. I have played a bit with Side A and I believe Aztec is one of the stronger empires, along with both the yellow ones. Player count shouldn't have too much of an impact because by winning black and blue production you can easily get some General multipliers with your blue cards. But especially at 2 player count you are less likely to see relevant cards for your empire which can make the game quite luck based anyway (e.g. if your opponent starts Harbor Zone and you have no blue cards you probably lose).
The power of blue cards is their high scoring and low cost. You don't need to have a ton of blue production to score well unlike white/yellow. With many of them giving Krystallium for completing them you can build a surprisingly large number of them. I would avoid white production and focus on building a black card or two early by recycling. Saucer Squadron for example, you only need to discard 1 black and 2 green and it will give you 3 more blue production each round.

Not sure if you'll be able to view the replay of the game but here I got 86 with Aztec.
Feel free to invite me to a game if you want to practice :)

Oh, and re: the expansion - completely different game. Would highly recommend playing C&A expansion with Side B. There are so many more options for scoring as opposed to the traditional yellow, blue, general or financier routes.

what do you get score range you plaed?
    70-110? or more?

    • @NoWondersTV
      @NoWondersTV  ปีที่แล้ว +2

Hello. Sam will probably reply later as he's busy but I think I can safely say that with the base game, the scores seem to vary between 60 to 100. With the C&A expansion, the scores are much higher so the scores are usually more between 100 to 160. Can easily go over 200 with the perfect engine. Scores will also highly vary depending on player counts. For example, a 2p game will mostly rely on winning majorities and financiers/general multipliers (as mentioned in the video iirc) so as there's less people to compete against, it's easier to get more tokens and higher scores rather than in a 5p game where most of the time, you'll tie with your opponents on production. 😊

      Side A 70-110 sounds right at 2 player. Side B maybe 50-90
