Involves a speed restriction (slower) and lower cruise altitude (lower). Both increase fuel consumption, as well as the colossal drag from the extended gear. No passengers on board, so they plenty of room for the fuel.
@@marcusagrippa8078 i'm sure they burned a few extra tons of fuel doing so. But yeah, i'm sure it was part of the flight planning that, they would abide by the safety limits imposed on gear-down flying for this aircraft despite the cost to do so.
"The desert" is likely Arizona. Flying it across the Atlantic is a long flight from there, and landing gear when down has a maximum safe speed rating. And a lot more drag. Most of been a long, slow ferry flight.

It must have cost twice the amount of fuel to fly it with landing gears down. It would have been cheaper and environmentally if they had the equipment flown in to use at the storage.
Yes, plus some additional system checks, hydraulics etc would be needed, a through manual inspection basically. So, if suddenly the gear was up and they had to do a belly landing, they'll be fucked and the aircraft would be damaged resulting in costs
Because if they found out there was an issue extending the gear mid flight it would mean they’d have to land without the gear, which would be very expensive in damages. Hope that makes sense :)
Hey Luxplanes I was wondering do you know where the maintenance centre was because I think I saw this on flight radar was it by chance prestwick airport in Scotland it was flying to? If you don’t know it’s fine thank you 👍
I bet that was a slow shaking flight with the gear down. I bet they probably max air speed was around 230 Knots with the gear down. And fuel economy probably sucked also.
I’ve been in Scotland for the past week and I saw this plane sitting on the tarmac at Prestwick Airport when I went there to do some planespotting. It’s in the background of some of my recent videos.
What this video doesn't tell you is they also had to fly at a much reduced air speed. Probably 250 knots, much reduced altitude, and tremendous noise. What an awful flight that would have been For the pilots

You're as deluded as they are!
Had that happen on flight from Bahrain to Athens on a c141 which added a lot of extra hours to the flight
The a380 is accurately 580 tons heavy when loaded up with fuel and passengers
I spotted that at PIK, for your info the test has not been completed yet but the livery is half changed

Im paying extra to fly the A380!!! Keep the jumbo jet living

U should give China Southern some credit for giving the A380 to global TvT
