I'll never understand why people go after the Repo men and women. It is not like they are not warned the car is up for repo. Years ago when I fell on hard times and got behind on my car payments I talked to the bank and met the repo guy when he came to my house and handed him the keys and title to the car. The repo people are just doing their job, just like we all do when we go to work.
Unless (if this want a legal repo) I would agree with the shotgun thing.
I think it is b/c youth today is becoming bolder and let's say 'spoiled'. Something for nothing. I am older and, like you, realize that if I have a debt on an item, I am responsible for it. If it is not paid for then it is not mine.

Yep, I know how this guy felt when his car was taken. I lost my high paying job in 1999 and fell on very hard and rough times. The repo guys showed up at my door after I was far behind with my car payments. I handed them the car keys and was heart broken when I received soon after an eviction notice, because I was also far behind behind on my mortgage payments. I was never able to recover financially and has been working a minimum wage job for the past 22 years. I have been staying in very old crappy buildings because that is all I can afford. 👍👍

Usually people don't have a backup plan before they ever get in these types of situations - thinking ahead. You have to be mindful to put money a side as a precaution to a least reduce long-term hardship regardless of the circumstances.
@nickodemusjohnson I work with a gut that's almost lost his vehicle twice due to not paying on time his... 800 something a month payments. I tell people why don't you save.. I get the "I canttttt" waaa waaa. Everyone can save. BUDGET. budget for that car you want I'd you don't want payments or even a house. Not difficult. But people have no responsibly these days
The scariest people are those that are desperate because they have almost nothing left to lose. At the time he probably really meant it when he said "they're gonna get this" and held up the shotgun. It probably quickly causes a change of heart when you see the SWAT team lining up outside your home though. Sad to see but this was entirely self inflicted and may be a blessing in disguise for him because obviously he did not have much left. Hope he gets the change he needs.

I had my car repo'd a few months ago after becoming unemployed , I fell behind on payments so contacted them before recently any letter and happily handed the car over. The value of the car was more than what I owed so once the car was auctioned off I received the difference . Best decision I ever made, I managed to buy another car, nothing special but serves its purpose
I did repo forever. Alot of people mean to surrender their car as you did. But.... I've seen ALOT of banks just don't care about their clients. After you've called to organize a surrender of the car, they won't do a damn thing. They might tell you yeah sure ok just wait for the repo man to show up. You in good faith go put the car on the street or whatever with the keys in it but the bank never does paperwork on it. What happens is.... the car sits forever possibly weeks/months/years until the repo guy shows up. Boom car gets taken and you got a repo on your credit along with months of no payment history.
I can't tell you how many times I've been sneaking around a car only to have someone running after me waving the keys in the air for me. Blows my F'ing mind how so many banks do not care about you at all.
I rode in a tow truck as a kid for 8 years with my dad in south florida. We done it all. One time we took a van from a illegally parked bar in fort Lauderdale. 2 mins after leaving we were chased by 4 dread heads pointing guns at us to stop the truck. Crazy being a kid at that time.

Glad your alright dude. I do repos up in Canada but was always have a bailiff present with the paperwork before we hook up. The only way I'd do repos in the US is if I could conceal carry and have pepper spray on me. That guy would have been toast on his own property

@@desertsoldier41 don't you also need a Writ of Replevin too so bailiffs/Police/Sheriff's deputies/Constables can legally get involved as they usually don't since it's civil and said writ is a court order authorizing involvement?
Most finance companies don't go through the Replevin process because then their debtor has their day in court and then they send their lawyers and a judge/jury can decide it per the law not necessarily the contract. Until the court decides car usually stays with the debtor

I got my car repo’d in my mid 20’s. I made sure the car was clean in and out, came out gave the guys the keys, they were in shock. “This is the easiest repo I’ve ever done”.
I had a similar situation, back in 08'... lost my job, so I took whatever I could find. Couldn't afford the payments any more working part time for minimum wage. I asked the tow company if I could park it at a local grocery store, didn't want my nosey neighbors to see. Cleaned it out and put the key under the passenger seat. They were happy to oblige.
But why let it go all the way to repo?
If you can't make payments and can't make a deal with the lender then return the vehicle BEFORE you incur extra charges.
When you wait for the repo man to come get your vehicle, you are still going to pay for the repossession. But if you drive the vehicle to the lender and leave it in their possession then they can't charge you for the tow.
Just strike a deal, even if that deal is selling the vehicle at a small loss. It saves you more money at the end of the day.

I did the same thing, but I didn't wait for the tow truck to come. I knew that I would be falling behind on the payment. So I called the credit company for the car to be given back. I was in an accident and didn't have all the money I used to. It was a choice between the house mortgage or the car. Funnily enough, it was the last time I had a new car. I have always bought used cars ever since and not regrets so far as it's not an investment. It's spending.

Honestly you shouldn't have stuck around and talked to him as long as you did, even when you were telling him about the police being down the road ... 22 years of repoing, it was his own stupid fault for hooking it while the debtor was in the car. Perfect example of why it’s better to be patient and come back when nobody is in the car. And only 4 years of doing this and he’s listing everything that has happened to him, I haven’t had a fraction of that in 22 years, he obviously needs to work on his tactics and people skills.

I’ve met a total driver for 15 years have done repose to and I always have my 1911 with me in my truck. I am in Texas so I know the laws a little bit different but it’s always good to be able to protect yourself and others.

I do repos as well and I have been in some rough spots. I have been in a lot of fights and just a few people pulled out guns. I dont want to carry a gun cause you can face prison time or lose everything. So I just use my hands and if I really need to use my bat. Be safe brother and glad it all worked out for you.
