I gave up on reading many books. I noticed it was teaching me bad habits, like DNF-ing too quickly, and often led to reading slumps, when the pile of open books became too messy, or too daunting. Moreover, when I stick to a single book, my attention span increases considerably, as I do not have the luxury of switching to another book whenever my attention starts dropping.
Aeon This is about what happened to me... Everyday I see my unread books in a pile. I'm sure you started of really wanting to read and then you crashed like a light weight drinking a lot of alcohol for the first time.
Aeon for me it really depends on the writing style and I think you shouldn't push yourself too much. If something that's supposed to be fun feels like a chore -then stop... rethink it and come back to it later (maybe)

I've only finished two books so far this year and my Goodreads goal is definitely suffering.

Up until about 2 weeks ago I was reading 5 books at once so I feel your pain! I have made March a 'finish all the books you have started' month! When you are spending time and energy doing something like school or work it is perfectly understandable to need some time to blow off steam with a mind numbing activity. Even though reading can be a relaxing activity it still requires in active and engaged mind. Sometimes you just need to tune out your brain and zone out so that you can focus your energy on important stuff like school and work. When your work life balance eases up you will be able to go back to your passion of reading with new zeal and you will fly through those books.
I relate so much to this. Last year I could not keep my focus on any book because grad school kept distracting me, and then I'd get Shiny Book Syndrome. I have 17 on Goodreads that are half-read from last year. I finally knocked one off that list when I did your 24hr readathon... only to add another one! Lol, I love your determination to finish the Wedding Date.

I'm currently reading 4 books at the same time. One is The Complete Grimm's Fairy Tales which I'll be reading through out the year, picking it up now and again and read a few stories. Then I'm reading All Out which I'm bringing to work to read in my breaks, and then I'm reading Reign of the Fallen and yesterday I started the first book in the Kane Chronicles because I feel myself slowly slipping into a reading slump and I know that middle grade and mythology and specially Rick Riordan can help me with it.
Totally relatable! Currently reading the paper copy of Jase Robertson's biography, which is a bit dry and preachy, so when I'm not in the mood for that, I read this B&N collection called Great Ghost Stories, 101 stories in total. If I'm not in the mood for either of those, then my third paper book in the pile is Seeker, and odd fantasy that I'm just sort of getting into. My primary reading is audio books, though, and I have fallen down that rabbit hole that is JR Ward's The Black Dagger Brotherhood series. Holy cow, I read books 1-5 in February, I've already finished 6, and have 16.5 hours left of book 7, so currently reading that. Also currently reading audio book The Chemist by Stephenie Meyer, which I put down temporarily because I just had to figure out what happens next with the Brothers. Also periodically reading the audio book for Sherlock Holmes' entire works, but only a story or two at a time. Those are quite intellectual, and can sometimes be hard to follow while doing work or laundry at the same time.

And what makes it exciting for me those that the two princesses of bamarre is what started me on my love of books, reading and writing. And I thought you would be interesting to know this I've heard you talk so much about Goodreads on your channel so I looked it up and I started my own Goodreads account in my reading challenge for the year is 30 books and I have already read 7.
I am also very very good at reading multiple books at one time amd taking forever to finish just one. I get very indecisive on what I want to read . Currently reading : Scythe, The Philosopher's Flight, Red Rising, The Hate U Give, and Renegades (which I am also listening to and fall asleep at the same parts). Hopefully, I will finish all soon!

I agree with you about the fact that you shouldn't put pressure on yourself when it comes to reading, because you do it for pleasure. Think of if this way, Zoe: your reading has fallen behind BUT you’ve gotten to experience the awesomeness that is ATLA and seeing as it’s one of the best shows E V E R i think it was worth it. And I’ve heard that Buffy is great too so like screw reading if you want to want to watch shows instead! I’m currently watching Brooklyn 99 in the time I could’ve spent on reading and I have no regrets!!
I didn't read a single book in February because of uni, but in a week my schoolwork eases off a lot AND I'll be getting To Kill a Kingdom and More Than We Can Tell in the mail at the same time so I'll be spending that weekend FINALLY reading XD
Oh bless! That was totally me last year, I just kept picking up more and more books as they would peek my interest while being in a slump, but then as I got into them I’d put them down and pick up yet more. I’m currently reading three books, which is the number I always try to have on the go. It works out to three different formats, so I have one Kindle book - currently This Mortal Coil. One audiobook- currently The Diary of a Young Girl, by Ann Frank. And of course, one physical book - currently Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. I get tempted to start more, but I figure I have enough variation with this method and just make myself carry on 😂
Hi Zoe, I don't watch all of your videos but in this particular video I noticed something. You're putting yourself down a lot. I've heard you say things like 'I'm such a failure/disappointment' and 'I kinda have an excuse' quite some times. When taking 6 classes in college it's totally understandable that you don't have time to read, and yes you have a reading channel, but as far as i'm concerned you don't need to apologize when you haven't been reading if you're taking 6 CLASSES. Please don't talk so negative about yourself. You're doing the best you can (even if you think it's not enough!) and you're worth more than those negative things you called yourself. College is hard. Cut yourself some slack ;)

Wintersong was one of my fave books last year because I love David Bowie as Jareth 😜 but I wasn't impressed with shadowsong 🙁 sadly I wasn't as obsessed as I was with wintersong.... completely different type of story and I was soooo disappointed

I recently just read aristotle and dante discover the secrets of the universe in one day which is rare for me even for a book that small also earlier in the year i read turtles all the way down in 2 days and those are just two books i’ve read this year i’ve read quite a few, i wasnt into reading when i was a kid and my friends and mum got me into them as i got older and im now 18 and i’ve done a pretty good so far this year

I agree with you about the fact that you shouldn't put pressure on yourself when it comes to reading, because you do it for pleasure. That is why I have put my Goodreads goal to , so I wouldn't feel pressure by myself to read more. So far it is working :) And I didn't mind watching this video, I always enjoy watching your videos. I'm in the same situation now that you were in. I haven;t been in the mood to read lately and I'm in the middle of like 5 books that I haven't picked up in weeks or months for a few of them.
Think of if this way, Zoe: your reading has fallen behind BUT you’ve gotten to experience the awesomeness that is ATLA and seeing as it’s one of the best shows E V E R i think it was worth it. And I’ve heard that Buffy is great too so like screw reading if you want to want to watch shows instead! I’m currently watching Brooklyn 99 in the time I could’ve spent on reading and I have no regrets!!

I didn't read a single book in February because of uni, but in a week my schoolwork eases off a lot AND I'll be getting To Kill a Kingdom and More Than We Can Tell in the mail at the same time so I'll be spending that weekend FINALLY reading XD
Oh bless! That was totally me last year, I just kept picking up more and more books as they would peek my interest while being in a slump, but then as I got into them I’d put them down and pick up yet more.
I’m currently reading three books, which is the number I always try to have on the go. It works out to three different formats, so I have one Kindle book - currently This Mortal Coil. One audiobook- currently The Diary of a Young Girl, by Ann Frank. And of course, one physical book - currently Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. I get tempted to start more, but I figure I have enough variation with this method and just make myself carry on 😂

Hi Zoe, I don't watch all of your videos but in this particular video I noticed something. You're putting yourself down a lot. I've heard you say things like 'I'm such a failure/disappointment' and 'I kinda have an excuse' quite some times. When taking 6 classes in college it's totally understandable that you don't have time to read, and yes you have a reading channel, but as far as i'm concerned you don't need to apologize when you haven't been reading if you're taking 6 CLASSES. Please don't talk so negative about yourself. You're doing the best you can (even if you think it's not enough!) and you're worth more than those negative things you called yourself. College is hard. Cut yourself some slack ;)

Wintersong was one of my fave books last year because I love David Bowie as Jareth 😜 but I wasn't impressed with shadowsong 🙁 sadly I wasn't as obsessed as I was with wintersong.... completely different type of story and I was soooo disappointed
My issue is that I haven't had a chance to go buy more books since i've been busy with college, but I'm hoping I can go shopping over spring break when the quarter is over.

I recently just read aristotle and dante discover the secrets of the universe in one day which is rare for me even for a book that small also earlier in the year i read turtles all the way down in 2 days and those are just two books i’ve read this year i’ve read quite a few, i wasnt into reading when i was a kid and my friends and mum got me into them as i got older and im now 18 and i’ve done a pretty good so far this year
look i have only read up to city of glass lol and need to catch up a lot on this series but i love it so much i'm going to!
