  • Join me onboard this rare Fokker 70 flown for Virgin Australia by Alliance Airlines in economy class from the upgraded Port Macquaire Airport (PQQ) to Brisbane (BNE). I'll explain the full flight including some technical information as well as some history around this aircraft that had a premature end to its life.
Correction: The F70 is a shortened version of the F100. Sorry about that.

Ironic that an aircraft built in 1996 had much needed personal fresh air vents but these days it’s become hit and miss as to whether they’re incorporated in new aircraft. I totally agree with you...controllable fresh air is needed please aircraft manufacturers and airlines.

I find it strange that the engines seem to be fitted so close to the wings of the F70 airplane. In the B717 and a similar Embraer airplane, the engines are at the rear too but quite a little further from the wings. Is it because the F70 is a much shorter airplane than these two i mentioned? i guess.

Never flown on one of those Fokkers, but side by side that 100 is a lot longer Fokker than the 70. How fast do those Fokkers go? Even the old Fokkers still look nice, but I'm sure the really old Fokker have already retired in Australia. When I visited Miami, FL last summer I was told there were a lot of old Fokkers down there, having relocated from Canada and the Northern US; however, instead of old Fokkers everywhere, all I saw was Airbus and Boeing. Then again, maybe it was just too hot for all the old Fokkers when I visited...
Earlier in my life, I really wanted to join the Mile High Club and what a better plane to do so than a Fokker. Alas, like many older Fokkers, I'm not able to get up anymore!

For two years from 2008 I flew the Turboprops SYD/CBR every Monday morning. I never liked the seats that were level with the propellers (I know, if it went pear shaped, at least you died quickly). But there is nothing like the older plane engines being revved to full power at the end of the runway before they take off. My first flight ever was a DC3 (?) from Essendon Aerodrome in the mid fifties. I only added the last sentence so that I could write Aerodrome! Thanks Paul for yet another informative vid.
