Hey Signers! We’ve been receiving a lot of questions about the Summer Intensive. Like when is it and how much is it going to cost!? First of all we’re so happy about all of the interest and are genuinely excited for all of you to be a part of it. The course begins June 13th and will be every Monday and Thursday for 3 weeks. Our first class time offering is 6:00pm - 8:00pm CST. If there’s a lot of interest we’ll likely open up a second class time from 8:30pm - 10:30pm CST. The price is $200 instead of $300 since this is our inaugural intensive. The course will include 12 hours of live interactive sessions with plenty of supplemental activities, quizzes and homework that won’t just keep you busy, but will push you to take your signing skills to the next level. If you’re interested in more info check out our website and sign up for the email list. LearnHowToSign.org
As a pediatric nurse I learned how to sign in the 60's. When I started having my children I taught them. My husband and I had a rule of not horsing around at the dinner table. So my clever children would sign to each other and I thought it was marvelous. They learned the skill very well. I am very happy this channel exist.
I miss interacting with the Deaf & HoH community. It was also a blessing to be able to interpret in Church - especially Worship songs! 🙌🏾🤟🏾☝🏾 Lord willing, I'll be able to do so starting in 2023. 🙏🏾
I love all your videos 🥰 You have inspired me to take an online class with my local signing club and it starts in March. I also joined a group on Facebook that does a Deaf Coffee Chat... I hope to learn enough so I can feel confident to go and try to carry on a conversation. I think ASL is a beautiful language and wanted to learn but didnt think I was smart enough to get all the signs .. . I have surprised myself at how I have been able to grasp ASL ... still working on my numbers ... my fingers dont seem as limber as they used to LOL!! Thank you for all you do!!
Taking an ASL class that starts tomorrow, so excited~ Two months ago having tried communicating with fluent signers but totally froze like a deer instead, and up-to-now practicing signing reception from "intermediate ASL" sources, and that helps a lot with recognizing signs before becoming familiar with individual signing habits. You can see how that can be a puzzle, finding heavily inflected signs through all the clutter while not becoming distracted by all the facial expressions that fluent signers know so well, the first time was so overwhelming~~
It went really well, and the second class my teacher was Deaf, and I had just enough practice and learned so much in it. Good timing on your response, I just now came back from my first day in my third ASL class, which was amazing, and it's a beginning class so I can focus on my fluency and confidence while helping the new learn-people, which makes it tons more fun. Also I now have Deaf co-work-person and can communicate a good amount with them, only relying on signing and not yet use paper write. Thank you remind me how far I come~
Even though I do have a deaf parent I was taught in ISL and didn’t start learning fully (since soon having classes to start becoming a interpreter class for CODA) so I gotta work on signing more clearly when chatting with my ma and her friends so this channel is very helpful with brushing up on what I know and changing signs from ISL into ASL
I've been watching some vlogs done by people who sign to try to help my receptivity. After watching your excellent review of CODA, specifically the section when the parents were signing together and you translated the actual ASL, I realized that pretty much all captions that I've seen for ASL on vlogs, movies, etc. are not only translating the signs to words, they're translating it to English. I know that ASL grammar and "word" order is very different to English. It seems that vlogs are good for learning vocabulary, but can you recommend some resources for additional learning and/or practice for actual ASL word order and sentence structure?
Great question. We have linked curriculum that would help go future into depth with sentence structure. ASL follows a topic comment structure. So you have to find the topic of the statement then follow it with a comment or question.
Thanks for the awesome tips! I also find it helpful to write down every sign I learn with a brief description of it so I can practice without the video. I also like to use my notes to show my family right after I learn it and it really helps 😊
Thank you from America, I have been watching CODA like 4 times now. I love ASL and want to become fluent. I agree American Sign Language is a beautiful language. I will be soo happy to talk to a deaf person one day. Until next time keep learning how to sign

I am a nurse for a little girl that is mute. She can her but sign is the only way she can communicate with others. I have found your videos very helpful. I am learning and then teaching her what I have learned.
I'm a CODA and I always thought I was fluent until I became an adult and realized I cannot understand anyone other than my dad. It's made me incredibly sad and I try to re-learn but for some reason it's harder lol
Really excited about your announcement! Wanted to express my gratitude for all the content you've made thus far and my excitement that you're pursuing new ways to teach! Learning from your videos is a pleasure.
Why on Earth would anyone (Deaf or not) be upset about a completely qualified teacher with years and years of experience teaching more people ASL and improving communication for both Deaf and hearing? It's as if some in the Deaf community are audists and want to segregate those who are born hearing.
@@tiffanyhull7382 1) I’m hearing too 2) because her signing isn’t fluent. It has a very thick hearing accent on her signs. At least she does with what little she actually signs in her “sign language” videos
@@tiffanyhull7382 and if you want a lesson in Audism, just watch these videos. 1) she’s speaking and hardly signs 2) no open captions. Yeah TH-cam has captions but not everyone knows how to turn them on. If she isn’t going to sign the whole time, then she at least needs open captions imbedded in her videos. But the best thing she could go to not be audist? Sign the whole video, add in a voice over, AND imbedded captions.
YES, and please do not suggest a new signer should be teaching their friends and family sign language. They definitely should LEARN together, but not teach!
This announcement fills me with joy! My children and I have been watching a video of yours a day for a year now. I had signed up for a college class, but it conflicted with my husbands schedule and I was heartbroken. So, this is even better! I’ve recently started dreaming in asl.
