- (12 Mar 2018) A French navy frigate arrived in Manila on Monday morning for a four-day goodwill visit.
The Floreal-classlight surveillance frigate - the FNS Vendemiaire - was welcomed by Philippine Navy officials and the French ambassador to the Philippines Nicolas Galey.
The French visit involves a series of confidence building exercises between personnel from both countries, officials say, and will strengthen the France-Philippines relationship.

To my understanding the US-Philippine Mutual Defense Treaty only applies to the Philippine mainland, and can only be used if the Philippines or Filipino forces were physically attacked by the Chinese.
