I'm glad Mother Jones was able to record this video. I was on the fence on who to vote for. This is what I wanted to see, a behinds the scene conversation. I voted for Obama last election and after this showing I will be voting for Romney. Thank you Mother Jones
Thank you for posting this. Some of us could see through him, but others who are willing to give chance after chance can now see clearly what we have been seeing in the fog of his lies.
"I know that people in this room are probably doing relatively well, relative to folks across this country. But not everyone in America is doing so well right now, it’s tough being middle class in America right now," Romney said. "The waiters and waitresses that come in and out of this room and offer us refreshments, they’re not having a good year. One of those waiters is now having a great year... Congratulations... You're on candid camera.
LOL! He is such a spellbinding speaker, you can hardly hear him over the clash of his "listeners'" eating utensils and popping corks. The one percenters in the foreground never stop stuffing their faces. LOL!
Good to know someone on youtube knows what he is talking about. I still cant see how General Electric did not pay income/corporate taxes in 2010 even with the loopholes
The question leading to the (particularly) controversial remarks starts at 16:55.The question is: "Over the past three years all everybody's been told is, "don't worry, we'll take care of you." How are you going to do it, two months before the election, to convince everyone you've gotta take care of yourself?"
did you even watch the video? he shows concern and wants to help everyone in the united states. do you even understand politics? are you over the age of 12? this is him speaking candidly and he shows a lot of knowledge of the issues.
People need to realize that this is Romney's real side, and not the one he wants to portray to the public. Behind closed doors he is a completely different person as we can see.
I did pay close attention. He was very clearly refering to the veterans, the elderly and especially the needy. They are all included in that 47%. He also went on to say that he can't convince these people (47%/veterans, elderly and needy) to take responsibility for their own lives and that his job is not to worry about these people. This was meant as an insult to the poor. Nobody is twisting his words except those whotry to defend him... And fail.
Part 2: There is nothing more vile than a wealthy man denying a slice of bread to a hungry child. Have you no thought or compassion for your fellow Americans - has money corrupted you to such depths that you cannot see the suffering of the poor? A 'big man' with five houses, taking pride that the poor should go hungry. How contemptible. Your sons must be so proud.
I dont think he was insulting anyone for not paying income taxes. He was saying how promising tax cuts to the middle class wont matter to people who arent being taxed and that he has to offer more than just tax cuts that wont improve those peoples lives.
Several studies have been made comparing social mobility between developed countries. One such study (“Do Poor Children Become Poor Adults?") found that of nine developed countries, the United States and United Kingdom had the lowest intergenerational vertical social mobility. The four countries with the the highest social mobility were Denmark, Norway, Finland, and Canada. So yes. Other countries can say it. Truthfully, even!
Excellent case FOR voting for Mitt Romney! He comes off warm, thoughtful, smart, and most of all, spot on in his analysis. The 47% comments refer to campaign strategy NOT governing philosophy. This meme of Romney doesn't care about half the country is pure bunk. To the left I say, "you can't handle the truth!"
Forget about labeling yourself a democratic or conservative. If I was an American National, I would be asking myself whether Mick Romney would be the best person to represent the United States as President on the world stage. Mick Romney has not only insulted half the electorate vote but also insulted a number of nations at the same time! What would happen if this man actually became President? Now that would be one terrible nightmare!
"Its about strength" -Mitt on his foreign policy Its not all about strength, or bullying other countries, or locking people up in Guantanamo indefinitely. Its about doing the right thing, and leading by example.
Romney pooped himself when he saw this. Speaking of which, there's a new game where you play as Romney's dog and can poop on his car. Just google "seamus the dog game"
I'm glad i wasn't one of the 47% working in the kitchen making these guys dinner. Cooking a meal that is equivalent to 2 years worth of pay for the staff and hearing Romney talk about how worthless you are.
Publishing leaked information by journalists who did not commit the illegal act of acquiring the information has been protected by the Supreme Court of the United States under the First Amendment on several occasions, provided the information was of public concern.
Naturally, freedom to you means smoking pot. Freedom to Republicans means the right to bear arms, the right to advance yourself prosperously, the right to win in life, and the right to do our best in the service of God.
What's truly pathetic is how little the donors care about his policy, and only focus on him winning. These people don't support him and his ideas, they invest in him. Thanks to a crappy phone camera, I don't think they'll be getting much of a return.
"Catholic Hospitals could make their employees agree to not use contaceptives or be terminated." Wrong. Not under the regulations approved by the HHS secretary. They are required to purchase insurance that covers contraceptives and abortion.
At a FUNDRAISER if you have no money you are insignificant. But you've missed his point. He's saying if you get federal funding your not going to vote for someone new (him) because you would be afraid you might not continue to get your same amount of monthly funding. You would be to afraid to change. He was letting these investors know which group of people he was going to address where he had a better chance of getting the votes because they wouldn't be afraid. These are just standard stratagys.
If you have verified your account, you are no longer limited to uploading 10 minutes. I'm not sure why you think TH-cam only allows for 18:23 of video.
Are you just ignoring the part where he claimed that his job is to not worry about the poor and retired half of America and that he can't convince them to take responsibility for their own lives, implying that the reason they are all poor is that they don't work hard enough. I'm sure that him grouping in the veterans was probably just ignorance on his part.
Totally agree..Im in the service and was thinking that. When we go overseas to the Middle east we are tax exempt to $80 grand, a number which MOST of us wont even get to even with incentive pays, hazard pays, and no taxes.
Romney is a realist. His foreign policy judgement are based on intrinsic evidence. The people making a big deal out of the "47%" comment are the ones who had a negative opinion of him to begin with. It would take more than this for me to lower my opinion of Romney's integrity. I don't support either party really, and I don't buy-in to these emotional appeals.
My take on the Republican campaign pitch. "We fucked up real bad for eight years, you didn't fix it fast enough, can we have our job back?" The USA is a democracy. Paul Ryan along with most Republicans voted with President Obama and George W. on the biggest debt increasing bills of the last 12 yrs. The wars, tax cuts for the rich, stimulus, the auto bail-out etc. etc. You take the increases away Ryan voted for and there is no debt.
Two big reasons why 47% do not pay federal income tax are the child tax credit (for modest not low income households) & the earned-income tax credit, which Reagan expanded, touting that it was “one of the best anti-poverty programs” & which Clinton also expanded; Bush, Sr. doubled the child tax credit & Bush,jr expanded it further, exempting millions more. The number has grown under Obama due to the recession & temporary tax cuts. It was 51% in 2009 & will continue to go down as economy recovers
did you actually watch the video? where does he say any of that? where did he say that the middle class is between those rates? also the man is pretty much retired. all of his "income" is from interest and dividends.(and he pay taxes on it) so that means money he already earned is being taxed again every year.
so what we have in 2012 are two different mindsets. Some people think the poor should work harder and that, by working harder, they will be promoted and become well off. Others think that the system is stacked, broken, and corrupt, and that the poor will stay poor no matter what. I personally agree with the pessimists, because history shows us how manipulative a ruling elite is willing to be to maintain power and influence.
How is Ron Paul worse? He's the only president that actually knows the constitution and doesn't overstep his boundaries. He's never voted for a tax increase, and has a solid record of never flip flopping on issues like Romney does. Please, tell me, how is Ron Paul worse? Do you not like freedom?
And what is wrong with what he said? It is not the numbers he used, but he is correct. There are more people than ever before depending on the nanny-state caring for them cradle-to-grave, and NOTHING he says would influence them to vote for anyone that they perceive as a threat to their lifestyle (yes, it is a lifestyle).
I love how he so despises the people who get government assistance, but he's totally happy for his friends the bankers to get billions of $ in government assistance. I also love how he comments on people who don't pay their taxes, when he does everything he can to avoid paying tax on his millions. This man is a breathtaking hypocrit.
Doesn't change the fact that he's basically saying fuck those 47%. Let's not forget the "entitlement" to food, housing, and healthcare because those are basic HUMAN RIGHTS not entitlements.
The FBI has an agent located everywhere, BUT they dont have enough to monitor every damn thing that is said on the internet. If you were quoting a song you should have put that in quotations, or at least mentioned it immediatly after it was posted, so that the FBI would not come knocking on your door. You are entitled to your own opinion, but when youre on the internet it is your number 1 priority to think through what your typing because if it sounds threatning you should hold your tongue or...
I should have done this (snuck in a video camera) when I worked for a company that catered events for CFR when they spoke about their chosen one, Barack Obama, back in 2008 and for other CFR events where David Rockefeller admitted that their "plans for world domination" were "almost complete". THAT would have been beneficial.
actually, that is an interesting story. intel went to gates, he said he didn't have an os pointed them to Digital Research. intel went to DR and the president wasn't there. the wife/Secretary was asked to sign a form saying they were there and she refused. intel went back to gates and he bought DR-DOS to sell as well as took the initiative to retain ownership of all software licencing. He show loyalty and understanding of opportunity. Not guaranteed by having "rich" parents.
"actually" President Obama says that he is in the yop 1% if you watch some of his speeches. Also, President Clinton now makes either $50,000 or $100,000 per speech.
I had the FBI show up at my house a few weeks ago for some anti-government posts I made. When the FBI is monitoring my Facebook and come to my house to intimidate me, I don't feel free at all. How can you say following the constitution too much is a bad thing? You didn't say how it would hurt us by following the constitution exactly. I know if Ron Paul was president, I wouldn't have the FBI knocking on my door over some Facebook posts I made.
I think the point was that, yes, Obama makes jokes. He's funny and relatable. This isn't a bad ark against the president. He can be tough when he needs to be, when the situation requires it. He doesn't go bombing Iran just because Israel thinks we should like Mitt Romney wants, but he can still be a strong leader. And I'm glad you pointed out how Obama raised the debt less than a third of what "W" did when he didn't have to deal with a failing economy. Neither looks good, 1 feels less like W.
That thing he said about the latino's and blacks voting.Stating that it will destroy the nation is the most racist thing Ive ever heard from possible President.
"Maybe if I go to school, I could be rich someday" - Romney
Reality: Saddled with student debt, no career and a minimum wage job.
I'm glad Mother Jones was able to record this video. I was on the fence on who to vote for. This is what I wanted to see, a behinds the scene conversation. I voted for Obama last election and after this showing I will be voting for Romney.
Thank you Mother Jones
That's becoming more and more apparent every day. Though I knew it all along as soon as he said corporations are people.
Thank you for posting this. Some of us could see through him, but others who are willing to give chance after chance can now see clearly what we have been seeing in the fog of his lies.
good comeback. well researched, witty, on point and topical. you should run for president of your teletubbies fan club chapter.
Thanks David. Since i hit a nerve, i'll take your response as a compliment.
Around 13:30 he's all like "yeah boyieee we're tied in the polls"
lmao
Thank you SO much for this video! I've never been more confident in Mitt Romney than I am now.
You're on candid camera.
i think this shows how realistic and thoughtful he is. i actually am even more behind him now that i've seen this.
Yes, I picked up on that right away. He feels safe with these people. He can be honest with them.
Never insult nearly half of the electorate Romney. You truly are out of touch, you have no idea how good you got it.
LOL! He is such a spellbinding speaker, you can hardly hear him over the clash of his "listeners'" eating utensils and popping corks. The one percenters in the foreground never stop stuffing their faces. LOL!
such insight, you should post that on twitter.
Hey hey! He brings up a good point. How many of us really needed this to know Romney was going down?
Good to know someone on youtube knows what he is talking about. I still cant see how General Electric did not pay income/corporate taxes in 2010 even with the loopholes
Everyone needs to see this video!

Thank You Mother Jones !!!
He was speaking in general terms. You're blowing this out of proportion. He answered the question macroeconomically.
Menu said MAIN COURSE "CHICKENHAWK AND BEANS"
He should make this a campaign speech. Should have used it at the convention. He is right on with the state of affairs.
Point being for liberals to stop criticizing Romney for his wealth. He lived the American Dream.
I am an unemployed middle class citizen and I support Romney!
did you even watch the video? he shows concern and wants to help everyone in the united states. do you even understand politics? are you over the age of 12? this is him speaking candidly and he shows a lot of knowledge of the issues.

MO LE MO LE MOOOO LE CHOP UP THAT HIDDEN CAMERA AND MAKE SOME GUACAMOLE

It's official: Now the Romneys have openly channeled their inner Marie Antoinette and told the peasants to "let them eat tuna fish."
Actually, it's not a bug. TH-cam freezes the view count around 300 while verifying that the view volume was not falsely generated by bots.
Who ever recorded this video should get a medal
Dear Americans,
Please don't vote for Romney just because you are a republican. Please wake up and realize what this country needs.
Consistency: Not contradicting yourself everywhere you go.
I'm done here, Take it or leave it, you did get the message.
Forget about labeling yourself a democratic or conservative. The news is all over this meanwhile congress just took another 2 month vacation.. with a 12% approval rating...
The centerpiece for American Foreign Policy is "INTELLIGENCE" and "TACT"both of which this guy is sorely lacking.
I guess it's like Fitzgerald said; 'The rich are different from you and me'.
"Its about strength" -Mitt on his foreign policy
Its not all about strength, or bullying other countries, or locking people up in Guantanamo indefinitely. Its about doing the right thing, and leading by example.
"It's the video America needs"
HAHA! $50,000 a plate and the world gets to watch for free! LOL

Lady at 10:30 sounds like all the Christians that go to different countries and try to convert people to Christianity haha
The waitstaff should have met him in the bathroom for a Fight Club style rebuttal.

I guess my 86 year-old grandpa should get off the couch and get back to work...
About time people get to see Mitt Romneys platform in his own words!!
Romney is a realist. His foreign policy judgement are based on intrinsic evidence.

It would take more than this for me to lower my opinion of Romney's integrity. I don't support either party really, and I don't buy-in to these emotional appeals.

The government is EXACTLY like a business.

Voting principle is not a wasted vote.
Gee, He says the same things in private that he says in public. That's pretty novel for a politician.

Question: At 2:12, is that a British donor speaking? Isn't that a violation of the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act?
Excellent job, cater waiter! You're a great American! By the way, you'll never work in this town again.

The land where completely contradicting your party's platform is a bad thing.

How can I send a thank you note to Mother Jones. Great boost for Romney!
This guy Mitt Romney is rather scary. I shudder to think this man given the button to all the nuclear arsenal.
Palestinians DO NOT occupy their own separate state.
Maybe you should look up the Constitution. Nothing in there is even vaguely reminiscent of your description.
"Entitled to health care, to food, to housing" Wow.
Last thing I heard is publishing an illegally obtained video is not illegal.
Illegally obtaining it is illegal though, obviously.
Doesn't change the fact that he's basically saying fuck those 47%. Let's not forget the "entitlement" to food, housing, and healthcare because those are basic HUMAN RIGHTS not entitlements.

Mitt Romney and 47% of the country. Still a better love story than Twilight.
Ahh, you know they spit in the soup, right? A little extra seasoning. ;)

oh you're a Russian economist? i'm a american economist. i am also a physicist, historian, chemist, war hero, and i am also from the future.
Okay I'm on BDS home page. (the .gov website) what am I supposed to be looking at exactly? It doesn't invalidate any of my points.
