  • On the evening of May 8, a catastrophic fire tore through the Burma Camp neighborhood in Dimapur, leaving over 100 families without homes. The fire gutted more than 130 houses.
Witnesses recount the blaze igniting around 9:15 pm, originating from a single residence before swiftly engulfing the surrounding area. The flames were further fueled by the eruption of numerous LPG gas cylinders. No casualties were reported.
Authorities swiftly responded, dispatching 5 fire trucks from the Central fire station, 2 from the West fire station, and 1 from Chumoukedima. The exact cause of the fire remains still unclear.
The damage is huge, with properties valued at lakhs of rupees incinerated. Among the losses are personal vehicles, cash savings, household furniture, clothing, etc.
Many families also endured the heart-wrenching loss of vital documents.
It's particularly poignant as most residents were daily wage earners, compounding the impact of this tragedy.
