Recently I've been using this e-ink reader a lot called the Boox Palma. It's $280 and it runs on Android. I think this is a very powerful device that can help save you from infinite doomscrolling. This has been my experience in using it.

new vids coming soon!! appreciate you watching
I bought this today, it will be a while before it arrives though. I plan to use it as a learning device as you demonstrated in your video, because I spend too much time on phone.
yoo let's get it :))
I’ve had this less than a week and the amount of reading I have done has shot up so much. It’s just so handy with its size that I can take it everywhere I go and read when I have a few minutes. My phone use has dropped so much as well.
love it
I've been thinking about getting one of these for a while.
Get it. I promise you won't regret it.
what are your main concerns
@@reysu Mainly lack of a sim card. I want to get rid of my smart phone entirely, but at least having LINE and Google Maps would make this a no-brainer for me.
I like that the 'mission' of this channel is to help people end infinite scrolling. I feel like I've been fighting infinite scrolling since I was a teenager. I think the earlier zillenials (98-95) remember a time before scrolling (early/mid 2000s) and we all feel how awful this habit is for us.
I’d say the mission is to help people optimize their lives and infinite scrolling is one aspect of it
@@reysu Yea definitely. I like how your channel is focused on getting people to be at their best.
As someone who was pre-teen in '95 I can assure you infinite scrolling had existed back then. Had to click Next every once in a while, and the rot and social plagues had different aesthetics to them, but practically it had existed back then.
I was born in 01 and didn't get a phone until 13, I definitely remember loving books and my iPod when I was a kid. Trying to get back to those things now.
I have another e-reader, the Kobo Libra 2, and I have to say it has made reading much more enjoyable. I would definitely recommend getting an e-ink device over using a phone or tablet.
was looking at that one too, how do you enjoy it?
I love this content, honestly. It occour to me that I also need a channel just like this one, but for workaholics... Like, learning how to relax or beeing less productive...
appreciate you watching
How did you get your icons lined up that way? I can't seem to figure it out on my Palma
I used a launcher called niagara launcher
What "pop socket"-esque thing are you using on the back of that?
it's somethign I found on amazon called gostrap
What is the case you have with the finger strap? Did I miss that in the video? Looks perfect
the finger strap is attached onto the case! It's called gostrap
You going to review the daylight computer dc-1? You should!
The way that the display on E-ink devices "show clearly from any angle", like you mentioned is due to how they're constructed. There is no "screen" per se, it is an array with charged particles of ink that are then stimulated to create image (electric ink!). When something is displayed, it is literally burnt onto the screen with the ink, which can make it so that an image can permanently be displayed but also leads to some faded images and slow refresh rate. this sort of tech is really interesting and i hope it finds it self into a bunch of other places in the future, boox even has a whole e ink monitor you can buy.
I see! thanks for the explanation. The whole monitor might be a bit too much for now lol, maybe I'll try it at some point
Hi, I just purchased the pro version of niagara. But I still cannot get rid of the top bar. How do you get rid of it ?
if I remember it's in the settings, but if not i recently discovered another app olauncher, it's completely free and does the same thing (no icons though)
@@reysu Thank you so much! I found it in the niagara settings. And I will also check the olauncher out!
What launcher are you using to only show the 7 apps and show them on the lock screen?
niagara launcher
@@reysu Thanks! How do you change the font color? Mine is white on a white background which isn’t ideal lol
Never mind it fixed itself lol
A good review, that you for introducing that to me. (P.S. You are very handsome with a wonderful voice.)
thank you haha
Oops, "thank you," not "that you" -- sorry
Having anki on this is a game changer.
gotta love anki
"Hi there! This doesn't look like the original interface from the manufacturer, right? Would you mind sharing how you customized it? Thanks!"
hey! I used a custom launcher called niagara. feel free to reach out to me on my website if you need help setting it up
Wouldn't it be great if we had such a device with SIM card access, so we could use it for making calls and sending messages as well? (Without notifications, of course)
def would be awesome
Does it support Bluetooth with a headset if I want to listen to audiobooks
yep
What icon pack is that?
think it came default w/ niagara launcher
I really like it but it is too expensive for me, but i may change my mind for its purpose
there might be cheaper options out there
what launcher do you use?
I think it’s Niagara Launcher.
yep niagara launcher
@@reysu thanks!
Why is it not a phone? What’s the problem to add a sim?
I don't know why they didn't add a sim, there is no sim card tray
Wish this was just straight up a phone I'd definitely be interested in it then. Lol... I find myself doom scrolling more than I'd like. Or watching TH-cam videos almost nonstop.
i make my phone a dumb phone and just use this to read
its basically everything Id want but no AUX port. I guess bluetooth is good enough though.
usb c wired headphones might work
I’ll get it this month🥰
nice
Thank you for the video, this is a interesting product. I have a question though, are you religious? If not, what would convince you to convert to Christianity?
I like it ❤
thank you!!
shut out to me 😌
ahaha you always share w/ me the best stuff
2 questions. Where did you get the finger loop? & is there anything special you did to setup your Home Screen so cleanly?
1. gostrap on amazon
2. niagara launcher (although I would prob recommend olauncher as its free)
@@reysu Thank you!
I wish it had a good camera on it.
I think it's just for scanning docs
No GPS and no magnetometer (compass) means it's a 'no' from me... What the living fuck were Onyx thinking when they decided not to put $8 worth of sensors in this thing...?
look into the hisense a9
I got a TH-cam addiction hopefully this helps
🤝
Do you use Google Play for your apps or do you side load?
google play
If they just had a sim tray i would have replaced my iPhone in an instant
look into hisense A5 if you want an e-ink smartphone
I’m debating on getting mobile Anki but it’s $35 is it worth it?
ankidroid is free, but I also have Anki on iOS for $25. I think it's worth it
Thank you for a responds, it’s $35 because I’m Canadian. I think I’m gonna go for anyway thoguh.
Can I make a call from this device?
you can make a call through wi-fi but not through cellular
Please make a video on bullet Journaling i have watched your pervious one and want to know more about it i am a student and really want to start Journaling but don't no how
what specifically would be most helpful? like a full guide?
@@reysu yes ,where i can keep a track of my studying consistency and habits and tasks .A full guide would be helpful
It probably won't work in a sauna
hmm, that's an interesting use case
@@reysu Anki in the sauna is fire bro. Increased retention etc
Paper also doesn't have blue light
Indeed. As a matter of fact, no device can ever replicate the beauty of good old paper. Old books have a charm of their own no matter how fragile. The only problem is... Books can be heavy. But I don't mind the weight personally. 😅
Paper doesn't have any light
@@user-gf1zs6dx9w unless you set it on fire
I love my kindle but it’s nice to read a physical book sometimes. The feeling is just irreplaceable
@@simontaylor2525 where there is fire there is blood
writing this comment from my Palma
ayoo
Its not a phone because it doesn't support SIM or eSIM
yea it's an e-reader
Too bad it's impossible to get one of these in Brazil :')
they don't ship over there?
yeah i need this to be like 100$ less cause I'm broke and will probably not use it that much
maybe start with just a books app on your phone
$270+ is a lil pricey for an e-ink device dont you think?
for me it's easily worth it as it's the price of 20 books or so
Kinda funny the video title is how to save you from infinite scrolling, and then you proceed in saying you can install TikTok and TH-cam...
the point of that was to show you that its not fun to use
damn i want that but i can't cuz us dollar is expensive to Japanese yen nowi will wait
ahhh maybe invest in US dollars with your Japanese Yen first lol
