    I studied the big Robbins for my 3rd year (general pathology) and none of the exams had questions with that much depth. I will be following your advice and switch to the medium Robbins for my 4th year (special pathology) and then use the big Robbins as a reference textbook. Thanks Doc!

    Just work on the immediate goal which is MCAT for you. When the times comes worry about step 1. Just focus on the immediate goals and you will do great!

      How do you memorize what you learned from the meduim Robin's book? I have read the entire book but I have trouble memorizing the information in the book.

    Just a warning to all the first year MD students, make sure you start and finish studying pathology early into the semester, it is THE LEAST crammable subject with Biochemistry as a close second. Don't do it to yourself lol.

    "After I finish the chapter : I forgot too much" summarizes my whole life. Sometimes I feel like my memory sucks. I will study at Robbins this semester and unfortunately I only have the big one available.

      It's only natural, which is why you need your primary resources to be concise and as straight-to-the-point as possible.
      100 pages of extremely detailed pathology with very low retention, not a good way to go.
      The same topic watered down to 30 or so pages of more value to a student will still end up being 50% forgotten on the first run, but that's a lot easier to make up for during revisions than the 100 pages.
      I was the wannabe student that ALWAYS skipped faculty and lecture notes in favor of "Big" Robins, Guyton and Katzung, and the only thing I have to show for it is that I'm barely in the top 50th percentile of my class.

  • @chrisli9685

    I read what corresponds to lecture notes. I have used both the Basic Robbins and the Big Robbins. I don't read the whole chapter because there isn't enough time. I read about the diseases covered in my lectures. I then make Anki cards to review the material from the lecture notes and include details from reading as extras in my cards along with pictures of diseases to help it get into my head. Sometimes I forget after the fact, but I know it for my exam. This is for my grad program I am in now btw, but I am sure it could be used in med school.

      Why is everyone saying this. Pathoma doesn't seem anything special to me. Just a bunch of bullet points with no actual explanation. How can you learn and understand something like that? I understand it's great for revision but I'm not sure about learning from it as a primary ressource

    • @RedBullxMD
      @RedBullxMD 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@angry_moose94 From my understanding (I Could be wrong) the textbook is to be supplemented by the video lectures.

      If you combine pathoma with supplemented video, it is actually really good, specially for general pathology.

    I wish that "medium" Robbins had existed when I was in school. In stead, way back then, even (big) Robbins was considered by the professors to be somewhat lacking.
    They supplemented the information with several hundred pages of "hand-outs". Each was a masterpiece.

    Try to be specific. Read high yield topics from pathoma, medium robbins plus past exam papers. Focus more on diagnosis(morphology, lab, basic signs and symptoms etc) and you are done.No need to go into groosome details in Robbins. And one think more, avoid nerds as much as you can

    Try doing some of the questions in a Qbank -- Robbins, Kaplan, or Uworld...see how you do. If you're scoring well, then I think you could just keep doing questions and learn from all the explanations. If you gone through both books, you're in very good shape.
