@@jamesrowlands8971 they let you "stand" and effectively brace your body using your feet, picture sitting on a 55gallon drum that is on its side like its a horse, lift up you feet and balance yourself upright, then sit with your feet on the ground the stirrups help ground you

I love the way that you give and even show the sources for your equipment. OH modern horse is a bit big, but fair do it’s a good size for you by modern standards. I really wanted to set you do the “ horse leap” to mount him in all that gear! Only one comment trying to turning your heels out and toes in. This will re align your leg muscles and tendons making your seat and grip more secure. It will also stop you from inadvertently digging your spur into your horses side with every pace.At the moment you are gripping with the backs of your legs. This is not as secure for you or as comfortable for your horse. A well meant hopefully constructive criticism. Otherwise I’m very impressed 😘👍👍
I made the clothing, the spolas and upper arm armour as well as the sword, gorytus and all the horse equipment. The helmet is a cheap Corinthian that I modified. The greaves were custom made for me.

Hi, I make a lot of it myself. The body armour, clothing, weapons and all the horse tack. But some stuff I do buy, the greaves, helmets for instances.

Sarmatians had stirrups and they were the ones that mainly fought as mounted lancers
Stirrups are more for mounting and horse archery than for charges. Alexander's Companion cavalry were making lance charges without even having SADDLES
