This song should have been included in the black panther soundtrack
Nice to see her back (after that shit Yoga song chart attempt) but doesn't need to jump oin that fkin stupid N-word bandwagon...! SMH, learn from Black Panther!
Beej J pop ten is totally "shit" indeed 🙄🙄🙄 www.billboard.com/music/janelle-monae/chart-history/r-and-b-songs/song/885725
Shannon Surjue-Grant I liked her Yoga song , but not enough to play on repeat
With all that's happening right now, I needed this song...two years later yow
Look up the live version she did on BET for Black Girls Rock! Made me a fan for life!!
“We highly melanated”👋🏽👋🏾👋🏿
Lit yess this my chick all day!!!!!! Straight motivation from top to bottom go girll.!!! Replay a million times spoken like a Queen!!!

IKR Periodtttttttttttt Y’all bitches could never All Of Us Black People Are The BluePrint For EveryThing 💚💚💚💚💚💚💚🖤🤎🦋✨🌌🌠🌟⭐️🤩
We gave you life, we gave you birth, we gave you God, we gave you earth. DAMN RIGHT.
"I got away with murder, no Scandal. Ha. cue the violins and Violas." 💥💥💥💥💥
Caught it. That was mad clever 😎 I think violas were playing in the background too.
I’m going to play this song the day I graduate 🎓 as a registered nurse 👩🏾⚕️
Oooooo please make a video when you do that would be so dope and a amazing accomplish. Early Congratulations and much much highly blessings to you. Always stay true to you
I was wondering where the signal to my phone went, Janelle Monáe Got all the bars
Why can't all y'all compliment this great piece of art without discounting another black woman's work? Multiple talents can exist, and I'm sure Janelle Monae would find it insulting.
@Reesie She's just a light bringer on this planet. I saw her live in 2018 and it was pure magic.
@@awholemess6226 yes ppl are always like "my artist that i like is underappreciated why doesn't everyone like them" and then they go on the attack and try to insult other artists that are more famous to like prove their point that they're right and their artist is the best. Ppl don't understand how toxic that behavior is, or how ironic often times, it's sad for sure
It’s ironic because in the song she condemns the culture of black woman erasure and their comments contribute to that erasure. Encouraging others to dispose of the other black women and just leave Janelle.
@@adrukova1407 We need balance. Black women rarely get to express our different facets without being policed. The answer is not getting rid of other female artist and just have Janelle. The solution is for all of these women to have the same access to resources and promotion for their work.
Aicha denn du würdest munter mit Westafrika, meine Mutter und Pascaline weiterverkaufen im Namen der Polizei wenn keiner dich auf unsere Vorfahren hinweisen würde
I'm pissed that this was the most meaningful song on her album, yet her other title tracks received 5x more praise and acknowledgement.
I mean to be fair the poppier lighter songs are probably always more likely to get radio time than the deep cuts. I don't think theres a fan of any artist who isn't mad that their fav's more meaningful song didnt get more attention. I guess my point is to some extent it's just the way music gets consumed, but be reassured that thru youtube it's a lot easier for ppl to find these deep cuts and that millions of ppl have heard this song
I tear up whenever i watch this. Esp the part “ we gave you life, we gave you birth, we gave you god, we gave you earth.” The things black women gave this lifetime is immense. As a nonblack woman, I hold deep appreciation and gratitude to the ones “in the darkest of hours, spoke to the power.” And there are many, many of them.
Anyone else gonna say it? Ok. Janelle Monae is one of the best artists of our generation. And I do not say things like that lightly
If an old fart may expand on that, she's one of the most interesting voices in a couple of generations. Remember that a lot of the real artists aren't appreciated for a dammed long time into their career, and sometimes not until after their own passing.
Ms Monae has a clear artistic voice and a unique delivery that is deeper than pop music. It may well take a generation more to fully grasp what she's doing with her artistry, time needed for thorough analysis. Let's not forget that she was mentored at least partially by Prince, who is no longer with us, and he himself is worthy of academic study, that's how deep and profound his legacy goes... and she is, to my estimation, the clear front runner to take his legacy and expand on it. Far and away his most apt pupil, she also has attributes he didn't possess, a vulnerability he struggled with she has run headlong into.
Dirty Computer is an amazing album, at once timeless, and yet specific to its era. That's some Bob Dylan shit right there, and she's still young with a long career in front if her.
She's also a damned fine young actress, which is further testament to her artistry. Beyonce and Mary J have done movies, but I would hesitate to call them art
Future generations will look up the definition of "iconic" and be directed to this video.
Everyone always whines about equality. Well, I see no white people or men in this video. Tsk tsk so sad. When will the world learn!!!
Dirk Visser this is how black people have felt for centuries. Just embrace that they're finally starting to get the appreciation they deserve or piss off x
Dirk Visser The EXPECTATION to be ALWAYS included in everyone else's culture is in itself... a White supremacist viewpoint.
This woman just went so hard rappin, that she actually made me forget, she knows how to sing.
"Emoticons, Decepticons, and Autobots who twist the plot" -- I love this lyric. She's telling us that the "good guys", the Establishment and Law Enforcement ("Autobots"), are consistently lying to you and keeping you complacent with distraction. When someone tells you not to listen to a side, ask yourself why they're trying to keep them quiet. Ask yourself, why are they trying to keep Black women silent? It's time to listen to what they have to say! Keep the lines of communication open, decide for yourself who is worth listening to. Afrofuturist artists like Janelle Monae are going to save the world, I swear.
I’m tired of seeing people compare Janelle to others. Janelle Monáe is Janelle Monáe
IT IS DISGUSTING HOW THIS HAS OVER 8 MILLION VIEWS BUT UNDER A MILLION LIKES, PEOPLE C’MON 🤦🏾♀️
You need close to 100 million views in order to get close to 1 mill likes.
That because artist purchases "views" for popularity. Most of these views are bots, ( fake.)
She in the Wakanda night club. She is just Amazing
RosesareRed I hope she is in the sequel. We should push to make that happen lol
“We got away with murder, no scandal. Cue the violins and the Violas”
**spontaneously combusts**
Always thought it sounded dope....but I didn't even catch the Viola reference until I read this. 😯
GO OFF BLACK QUEEN🙌🏾👑👸🏾
Man, this is the best Black History month of my life thus far. #IssaAnthem
"I got away with murder no scandal" FIIIIREE!!!!
"...Cue the violins and the violas" Which is a play off the name of the "How To Get Away With Murder" actress, Viola Davis. 🔥
Janelle Monae has spent the last decade making more progressive, more interesting, and just plain better music than 99% of these R&B and Pop muthafuckas, and yet she still can't get on the Billboard 100.
I can't understand it.
Dope music awesome Cool good Listen wow powerful best ever black queen soul new black culture music history Good brother my
She is an album artist though. Her last album was top 5 on Billboard. But yeah her most selled single was Yoga and it's her worst track. I don't get it. Tha't s probably Diddy's fault. He doesn't promote her.
Why in the world do we black folk have to fight EVERY DAMN BATTLE BY OURSELVES , I have to fight 4 battles :
1. My color (my peanut butter complexion )
2. My gender
3. My athleticism ( bcoz I’m a female society says it’s taboo for black women to be athletic )
Oh and I thought of a secret one
4. MY INTROVERTED INTELLECTUALISM ( just coz I’m quiet doesn’t mean I don’t HAVE A VOICE )
And those 4 are just the nice ones I CAN THINK OF
This song does NOT get enough recognition or credit. ITS FREAKING GOLDEN- MELATONIN GOLDEN!!!
I've watched this how many times and just realized she rapped for 3 min and 16 seconds with no hook. #bars
You’re right I just noticed and it’s actually the toughest way of lyric form, yet she killed it 🔥
they seem to focus on the wrong people for marketing reasons and all the wrong reasons....i.e. Cardi B, and other non-rappin skill mofos
this song has a message. this needs more recognition. BLACK GIRL MAGIC. ✊🏿✊🏾✊🏽
This gives me chills every time I hear this !! They just don’t know she dropped mass gems in this song about us ✊🏾
Damn, watching this right after watching Make me Feel. Janelle is such a versatile artist, definitely a force to be reckoned with.
DArtagnan010 Right? The ArchAndroid covers a wide variety of musical genres, and Dirty Computer seems poised to be just as diverse, if not more so.
The Archandroid was and still is a straight up masterpiece, dont forget The Electric Lady album as well...Janelle Monae wins me over everytime. So happy to hear mew music from the queen.
And the best part about her, she dosen't need to be oiled up and in a bikini to be sexy, such class.
All the black excellence this month is really doing the most on my edges.
why did I just read your comment? lMAO that had me dead sleep . I cant tho.
as an 11 year old african american female this song has made me see myself differently, i know this comment is short but thank you Janelle Monae.
Janelle Monae is a perfect example of a caterpillar that didn’t settle for being a butterfly but became a bird of paradise that will never stop soaring upwards✊🏾✊🏾✊🏾
Her flow was impeccable on this joint
I'm literally still pissed that these bars are being slept on.
The most lit black history month to date! I'm just so happy this is happening in our lifetime. Self hate burned away and rebirthed a beautiful phoenix.
I just love how hungry and ferocious she is on this track. She attacks it with a certain grace that not many can pull off.
Love the fact that she relies on purely her talent, not outrageousness to draw attention to herself. And once you see & hear her you can't look away!!!💜💙💚💛💗
She is the G.O.A.T of her genre....we love you Janelle....
💯🔥🔥🔥👌🏾
I'm ready to vote for her as Queen of Everything.
Starting a petition for Janelle Monae' to be appointed the first Minister of Funk and Black Girl Magic in Wakanda.
Sean Smith like In black panther 2 or something this is definitely a shuri making something scene
*We highly melanated*
This whole song is sheer *BARS*
Bet y'all forgot Janelle been rappin' before some of these youngins were even born
lynsie.bear that's true!!! When she was in my hometown Atlanta running with the Dungeon Family she was definitely spitting bars with them. She been on that!
I doubt she was before I was born,
unless she was singing before 1999.
My sweet summer child. Her first release was 2003, she was singing before 1999.
JANELLE WENT OFF !!!!!!!!! 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
I need this song to blow up again - nothing gave me more "umph" in my step every morning than this song when the album first came out!
This video just screams unapologetically BLACK!!!!!! Man 2018 is not playing with this black girl magic 🔥🔥🔥🔥
“Running out of space on the damn bandwagon, remember when they said I looked too mannish?” Woo shit drag everyone
Janelle out there releasing some of the best music... And people aren't paying attention. For shame.
Her visuals are always top tier
I just want half of her swag. #BlackGirlMagic
Keila Keto
Lol, love it! Humility is soooo beautiful;)♡
I wish I had her around when I was a little girl. I remember telling my mom that I wanted to go by Mr and Sir when I grew up so people would respect me more. She shows little girls they can keep the Miss and command just as much power.
First time I heard this song I got chills. Same feeling every single time I hear it. This woman deserves awards for this song.
Probably the only artist who I will unquestionably buy all their music
Her, Madonna, and Florence + The Machine myself. Influential ground-breaking women who never just go with the flow too much. They get what they want, and with power still left spare.
#agreed shes just too real! Wish there were more female artists willing to be be real and speak the truth.
I think there are very few people in the universe who look as good in a suit as Janelle Monáe does
this is the epitome of black girl magic, and the power it holds.
Her suits 😍 🔥🔥🔥
WHEN SHE SAID QUE THE VIOLINS AND VIOLAS I SCREAMED OMG YES
Pauline Mellet it's a reference to how to get away with murder actress Viola Davis
Violin & viola as in the music instrument but the line before that she referenced getting away with murder no scandal (as in the TV shows) with Viola Davis being the lead on How to Get Away with Murder. Her word play is insane! :)
Okay, i see now, thanks a lot ;) (i'm not an english native, so sometimes i don't get all the references, anyway thank you ;) )
She's got beautiful skin tone
Solomon Kofi Otu Thompson from a non-black perspective this seems like a super weird thing to say lol.
remi sansfamille *a you can check her IG for make up free photos and she looks EXACTLY The SAME 🙃🙃🙃🙃🙃*
I feel privileged knowing about this godesss.
Nah this song needs to be in that movie coming out women king 👌🏾👌🏾🔥🔥
Can we give a shoutout to the videographer for having so many lighting sequences and still doing an excellent job of not flattening out their faces and making them look grey. 🙌🏾
Bruh yes!! I wanna hug and thank that person (ppl) because the coloring here is PHENOMENAL
Did not know Janelle was a dragon . She is spitting absolute flame.
Janelle has grown so much since the first album.. I'm surprised she's not bigger in the mainstream.
I am huge supporter of Janelle.
I listen to her work since the Dance or Die epilogue. And damn she is better than ever. This music is glued to my head. She deserves much more attention from the actual so called intelectual digital influencers.
I feel janelle and jidenna are two sides of the same priceless coin
That flow has jidenna written all over it! I wouldn’t doubt that he wrote it or @ least helped. Either way...I love it!
Erin B Wrong! Janelle been rapping.. and with this flow. She raps at the end of "Q.U.E.E.N" just like this
Janelle Monae put Jidenna on...she brought him on into the wondaland fold. Iron sharpens iron
The way she says Black Girl Magic 🔥
Forever Saskie...make you feel so proud to have that # Blackgirl magic!!
Janelle know how to slayy
I'm native american and have always been proud of my culture!!! Recently I learned my great great grandfather on my fathers side is African American, I may be fair skinned(not in the dam summer lmao) but I love my mixed culture! I am Tuscarora and coharie of robeson county, North Carolina, born and raised in Baltimore, Maryland! Member of Native American Lifelines of Baltimore and Boston for Native Health! #ProudOfWhoIAm
"I got away with Murder no Scandal...cue the violins please Viola" this is fire!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Janelle took the new rap style and basically took a dump on almost every corny rapper on the radio that uses this kind of flow but can't rap at all. She can sing, act and rap and I appreciate her for everything she does. She's always been on of my favorite music artists!
This is best rap song I heard this year. She slays Nicki Minaj, there has not been a good female rapper since Eve.
@@delirous8 it doesn't have to be a competition. Janelle Monae has said in interviews that she doesn't like people pointing to her to denigrate other artists, especially other Black women. She's about building up, not tearing down.
@@delirous8 "not been a good female rapper since Eve." - lol what?
there are so many good female rappers, especially outside the mainstream.
some in the mainstream too - Azealia Banks.
@@charliez077 cupcakKe is another female rapper with so much talent.
iconic 3 years later
Stunning and awake. My favorite kind of woman
YOU KNOW WHAT THIS MEANS RIGHT? WE HAVE TO WATCH THIS VIDEO ON A DAILY TO LEARN THE LYRICS
Rapping, Singing, Acting...is there anything that woman can't do ? And I *love* the violin part on this song and those lyrics omg
Dancing pineapple you forgot dancing. This woman could put James Brown to shame!
bruuuuuhhhhh her word play is crazy good
This single should be trending more than WAP. I am just saying.
SSDD. Anything that might empower or educate gets pushed to the side for a nice beat & easy chorus to remember. There's space for all but it's not by coincidence that things like WAP or Up get regular rotation (while they also pretend to be so outraged by it) & things like this barely are recognized. Just like Public Enemy getting pushed aside for gangsta rap. Chuck D was spitting way too many historically accurate facts & putting people on. Then gangsta rap came & like WAP they were "outraged" while promoting it.
@@ThatLadyDray but people like Kendrick Lamar and Beyoncé are very appreciated
Everyone brings different styles to the table what's so hard to understand about that. I'll listen to wap one day the next this one here 🤷♀️
Janelle deserves the widespread popularity that Beyoncé has. Not trying to compare them in any way, but she better blow up this album cycle because the world needs her.
Beyoncé gave the girls the confidence about these issues. Do not bring her name. Do not disrespect her. She is in a different league.
Of course, be fans will get mad at such true and simple statement. I'll take this girl over beyince, nothing wrong with that, different taste and preference. Just accept it Beyonce fans.
*We* gave you *Life*
*We* gave you *Birth*
*We* gave you *God*
*We* gave you *Earth* 🙌🙌🙌🙌
I remember the first time i watched this it felt like an spiritual awakening. Best artist of all time HANDS DOWN.
"Got away with murder no scandal" love these shows and this woman 😭😭😭😭😭😭
This isn't on Trending, but her other video (Make Me Feel) she put out yesterday is #1 with almost one million views. Support both videos 👌🏽
musicfeignraymondify right they rather trend the sexual shyt . But you understand the game too much power going on. Energy hun
1:46 "I cut 'em off like Van Gogh"
Was I the only one who notice she pointed to her ear on this line??!! God her lines are amazing why is she so underrated?
for me its like. at first she says that and ur like "what???" but then she taps her ear and ur like OHHH
I wish I can like this song a million times.
Proud to be a black woman 💯😍❤️
My wig was wiped from the existance of the MULTIVERSE. IT NEVER EXISTED.
This song is honestly underrated
I love Janelle's outfits in all of her videos 😍
If Beyonce released this it would be all people talking about. Not shading on Beyonce she's amazing, but Janelle deserves so much recognition she's not getting.
And she's been spitting bars like this since long before this. She has been and still is wayyyyyy toooooo slept on. She's been on this elevating and celebrating black women and black culture wave, Bey just hopped on the wave yet gets all the praise. Janelle deserves so much more recognition!!!!!
Rochelle Holland truth
TRUE!!! She has so much talent, but she’s not getting enough credit for it though
Beyoncé celebrates blackness, black women hood and black family, something Mona’s can’t do. Family, black man and Black woman. Not this promotion of black lesbianism that is set out to destroy the black family.
alginyes
"Lesbianism" what??
