I hope the green and beautiful Rabaul I knew during the 1960s will eventually return. Despite the devastation from the 1994 eruptions the area remains breathtaking and spectacular. Greetings and best wishes to the Tolai and Baining people, and to others living in Rabaul and Kokomo.

Papua New Guinea is blessed with natural beauty and amazingly warm people....Loved each moment spent with my friends and their families there....I always felt to be a part of them. Me and my wife were blessed to live and work with great people there. And wherever we went to train we were warmly welcomed and taken care as well. Will be back soon my dear Papua New Guinea, our second home.....

My Father In Law was there during WW2 as part of the 29/46 Australian Infantry Battalion , he often spoke about the Beauty of the Island

Thank you for you comment Marcie. Rabaul remains a very special place, especially for those who served there during the World War Two New Guinea campaign. 'Lulul' Dawn Services are held annually during ANZAC Day in Rabaul - this is organised by the Rabaul Historical Society and the Returned Services League. We hope you can experience 'Lulul' someday and perhaps explore other parts of Rabaul.

My Husband and myself want to go to Rabaul , firstly to see where our Father spent 18 months of his life and to lay Flowers at Private Neville Stenners ec 29/46 Australian Infantry Battalion (AIF) grave , he was 19 years of age and died of wounds in march 1945 , no one has been near him since and its our mission to make this trip - thank you so much for replying to my Post - Marcie Balme

We know it's a tourism promotional video when they don't show the horrendous state of the road between Rabaul and Kokopo.
It's very much quicker and safer, to go by boat.

Yes Kenneth, this is a tourism video promoting Rabaul. Rabaul and Kokopo tours by boat are really quite beautiful, especially the Duke of York Islands. We hope the provincial government can have the roads fixed soon so travelers can enjoy the scenic drive in this memorable place.

I remember when it WAS a scenic drive, from Rabaul to Kokopo, now you need a map and compass just to get in and out of the potholes. If there is any rain, you then need a landing barge and navigator to negotiate the big ones.
TGhe Kokopo road is an absolute disgrace.
