Thank you so much for your detailed teaching. Specially the part about the flick card. As a beginner I don't want to invest much money in my new hobby yet, in case I decide it is not for me after a while. Understanding how to use materials is very helpful to prevent disappointment. Thanks again!

Beautiful work and demo, thank you so much! I am very grateful, it's such a beneficial hobby to have (knitting/spinning/crochet/weaving etc.) that produces incredible unique items, you just cannot buy the "made with love" feel a handmade item has, and the feeling of accomplishment of making an item that will last a lifetime too..is wonderful!
I just got carders and I have some lovely Cotswold, Ryeland and North Ronaldsay (can you believe those sheep live on seaweed! They have a really nice soft fleece..) That I'm looking forward to making into yarn. My Grandad has just turned 90, so I actually bought carders with him in mind as I'm currently trying to make him a suprise scarf or blanket from some of the fleece or wool tops I have..

Very nice information, really well explained. Your way of holding the cards feels more comfortable and I definately am going to practice this way. Thanks for posting!
    Cheers from Brazil :)

This was very helpful! I thought I was pretty good at carding, but it takes me so long! I was very surprised to hear you say that hand carding is faster for you than drum carding. I've been looking at drum carders but they are so expensive, so if I can get much more efficient at hand carding, I may just stick to that. I do enjoy it, just want to be able to get through ounces and pounds faster. Thank you again!

Wow, I really like your method. I'm going to go find my handcards and try your method. It seems much easier (and more ergonomic on the wrists) than what I've been doing. Thanks for the demonstration, Beth.

Thank you so much!! I have been struggling with hand cards and have watched a number of videos. Yours is by far the best and most helpful. I really appreciate it..

Thank you for this video! I've tried several methods of carding, but this way worked the best for me.

Just got my cards yesterday. Very interesting technique. Im starting with 72 teeth cards and carding Llama. Yeah! I know, learning to card with Llama might not be a great thing but I do like your technique. I tried how not to use the cards. Picking up a few wool fleece today. I like working with wool over Llama.

So glad you enjoyed this video. Llama is pretty different, and may need 112 teeth due to how fine the fiber is. but the technique is the same.
      Enjoy!

Played with the technique today and found it to be rather easy to get a good card. Little effort was needed compared to how I started carding. Today I went out and picked up 5 fleeces. All wool this time. One white, one black, one white and black and the other two a mix of white and grey. Now to learn how to skirt, clean and wash a fleece. Then card and or comb and then spin it up. Going all the way with this. Mostly an educational thing but to this point I do like it quite a bit.

Had a breakthrough in drafting technique last night. Been struggling with consistent size and speed. Just by accident while trying different things I found the way. Amazing how consistent size and speed with just a little change. Video coming shortly.

Beth, How do you know you have achieved combing the fiber? When there are no noils, etc.?

You did not talk about the pair of flat carders. How do you use them

That’s a bad place for your thumb. I’ve never seen anyone hold it like that before.
