Nice review Sean. I have a Harman Kardon Go + Play which I use for listening around the house and in the backyard. The one advantage of the Harman Kardon is that it runs off rechargeable batteries so you can take it wherever you go without needing a powerpoint. Something to think about for those considering such a device.

I really enjoyed that review Sean. It’s a nice change to switch things up. I bought a NAD viso a few years ago and it performed way beyond my expectations. Horses for courses, there’s no need to watch the news with a 7.1 surround system. ✌️

When I was looking for a small, portable Bluetooth speaker, this was on my radar. I ended up going with the much smaller Klipsch Groove, because it fit in my messenger bag, along with a set of HiFiMan HE4xx headphones and a small amp (O2). Also $300 cheaper, and rechargeable, battery powered. When I decide I want something nicer for a room, I will definitely be looking hard at this one.
Great review. Keep up the great work.

I sell these things at my store. First review I have seen. And I concur with all of it. I was just blown away by how nice it sounds for its size. We also carry Marshall, JBL etc and it's just in another league. And it doesnt have that horn sharpness of so many other Klipsche products and is very easy on the ear long term. Only the Sonus is close to as good. I have no need for one in my home, but want one as it is just so beautully finished, styled and sounds so surprisingly decent. I have sold some with cheapish turntables as a starter system. For people with space constraints it's perfect.

I was debating on buying this for the past few weeks. Just couldn't pull the trigger on the $400 price tag. Saw it drop down to $300 and still..just couldn't do it. Then Amazon had it down to $260 and I jumped all over it. Even now it's at $250 (4/11/21) and honestly, $250 is a steal. Love this little box.

Love Magnepan. I have had their 2.6R for 30 years now and they still sound GREAT as I rarely listen to anything too bass heavy. You do need some good amplification to get them to sing. Their 3.7i is simply nothing short of Amazing. Love the company and their product. Super good value compared to other manufacturers. Only thing is that they need a lot of room to breath as their footprint is quite large. Otherwise, almost perfect.

My main system is Dynaudio Contour 1.3 SE's powered by a Krell system that is a life changing experience....I listen to the Klipsch ten times as much, it's just a lot of fun! You look at it and think really??? Not audiophile by a long shot but a helluva lot of fun to listen to! Highly recommended.

  • @StewartMarkley
    @StewartMarkley 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

I think that switching it up to reviewing the lifestyle speakers is a great idea, given the market size and that people like myself that have downsized and either don’t have the room, desire, or money for hifi stuff anymore. I have started looking into smart speakers with enough sound quality to be enjoyable when I want to listen to music other than as background music, and have investigated the Klipsch line, the Amazon Echo Studios, and the Google Home Max, which is by far the largest of the group. I think that the amount of bass available may be adequate without a subwoofer and I don’t care much that the Amazon Echo Studio has a much larger sound field. Anyway, I think that you will find that there is a lot of interest in these types of products and could blaze a new trail for audio reviewers.

enjoyed the review. I've been powering Forte II's since 1990 so adding this style of speaker requires some planning and when i saw this on their website i thought just maybe. Love the look and wondering how it lines up with a Bose SoundTouch 30; seems like a comparable cost and size. The Bose is nice but seems to optimize the sound at med-high volume and lacks fullness at the low end of the volume scale.

Good review in terms of sound quality, use case, etc. However, every review of a Bluetooth connected device MUST include a list of CODECS the device supports. Bluetooth 4.0 is not that meaningful compared to whether it supports aptX, AAC, or other codecs.
This speaker supports aptX so that would work fine with Android devices. But it does not support the AAC codec so with an iPhone it will default to the very basic SBC codec. This matters a lot for sound quality and, IMHO, should be avoided by iPhone users.
It is quite unfortunate that this is the state of affairs with Bluetooth, but that’s where we are.

    • @miguelbarrio
      @miguelbarrio 3 ปีที่แล้ว

@@andrewclarke8930 I don’t think so anymore. AAC and LDAC have been open sourced, I think.

Another option would be a Bluetooth internet table radio with one full range speaker.
There are some high quality radios available from different manufacturers you can search online for. One full range speaker might be better for some people that don’t want heavy bass. More focused Midrange and softer high notes in their music listening.

Great review as always! I tried 2 of the Klispch The One, and had to send both back to Crutchfield due to faulty electronics, one of them the battery would not charge (1st version of The One had chargeable battery) 2nd one would not retain Bluetooth connection. Even drove to a Magnolia and was gonna buy The Three and demo unit was stuck at full blast volume and couldn’t turn it down, at all, asked clerk and he had stated they had a few returned with the exact same issue, threw in the towel and bought a HomePod for background music. I don’t have faith in Klispch active speakers, seen multitude of problems on forums with plate amps failing in their subs, I too have the R-15 PM Klispch and while they sound ok, there’s quite a bit of hiss at idle when up close so I don’t use them in near field.

    • @ZeroFidelity

You can thank the Chinese manufacturing for all of this. I worked for a guitar pedal manufacturing company until retiring 2 years ago and there were always some problems with the components that we got from them to assemble into the final product. Not for every piece of course but too many. The level of quality control is a problem and is tough to maintain across the ocean. While Klipsch can build excellent speakers at home, it is quite another issue when offshoring you’re manufacturing.

Nice review Sean, I haven't heard the Klipsch 3 but I've been rocking out with my Woburn & Woburn 2 for some time. Great speakers for hanging out in the yard or background music listening when not being serious as I did today while practicing good social distance with my neighbors and enjoying the spring weather. Now how bout a more high end product review like a flagship amp or preamp from Hegel, McIntosh, Pass Labs etc? Just a suggestion.

Higher end gear was in the works, then the Coronavirus came along and b*tch slapped those projects down. A lot of companies are scared to do much of anything right now, and would rather hold off on reviews until after this whole thing is over. I'm not sure I am completely on board with that position, but I need to respect it all the same.

Technically a small form-factor sound bar but sounds great with music. Really big sound.

Can you pair two of them and get stereo separation.

Which has a better sound quality, Klipsch the three ii or Marshall Stanmore ii?

The ground is for the phono connection at least in mid to high end turntables. Without it you may experience a hum.

I’ve got a Sangean tabletop HD Radio with a terrible full range speaker BUT it has a great 3.5 mm line out. This Klipsch 3 in combo would be its aesthetic complement visually and a huge step up sonically. Thanks for your thoughts Sean.

Replace the speaker on parts express for low $$. A PRV brand are highly efficiant.

Klipsch smart, no treble tilted up. In this category they be competing with other bass based speaker. Bass based? And your average listener in a category are looking for bass output. Need bass output for outdoor use and cutting through outdoor noise. Corded yes, but will be moved outside, portability is what lifestyle speakers like this are about.

At first glance, looks like Bose 901's. Reminds me of KLH table radios from the past. These speakers are best for small rooms like den, office, bedroom & kitchen.they sound fantastic. The only thing this klipsch lacks is tone controls & FM radio.

    • @ZeroFidelity

Exactly right. And yep, I thought an FM/AM radio would have been a nice touch.

I've had one of these for years on top of the refrigerator for listening to music and podcasts while I cook or do chores. Works perfectly for that. Sure I have better systems in other rooms and some good headphones and all that, but like you said - for that purpose it's perfect

Appreciate the feedback. Will consider a better mic setup in the future. For now, it'll have to remain low as to not pick up on backround noise.

Can you please tell me what in the hell you mean by the term "WARM" since you seem to use the term at least a dozen times in EVERY speaker and amplifier review you do??
    Otherwise, another great opinion-oriented review.
I especially like that you included a sound demo at the end of this review.
    Keep up the great work!

If it's the same as the Sixes then just functional, not very good. If you already have a phono stage I'd use it and run the output into the line-level RCA inputs on the Three.
