Many Hmong people died because of dehydration in the jungles during the time that they were rebels. Lack of food was not as serious as lack of salt and water.
What year is this? With technology these days & Hmong meka practically live in Laos, how come the wife never put herself out there? She at least has to look for her children etc., the wife's relatives are still alive, nobody ask anybody in the US? The husband has to go see a fortune teller to know his wife is alive? Hard to believe this is a true story.
