- This video is about Owens first water fed pole window cleaning system in his first car, a VW Polo.
Its only a year since Owen passed his driving test. He set up this simple window cleaning system to get his own business going and is now already looking at setting up a van system.

Fair play Owen I also started my business young ( 21 living at home ) and i didn’t have the money to buy all fancy equipment and I made do with what I could build myself, and it works that well that I still to this day use the same setup as I always have, Carry on like this mate and your definitely going places 💪🏼 there isn’t many young people out there these days that are willing to put the effort in like you are, I look forward to hearing more about your story on the podcast, great episode Ash very interesting

Well done mate.... I've done a similar thing with my Fiat Panda, although I couldn't get an insurance to cover me taking the seats out so built a frame out of aluminium to accommodate. Added some anchor points to existing fixings so no change to chassis and ratchet strapped my 100lt tank down. Then cary an extra 4 25lt drums, can get away with that for now. Happy to show you round one Day Ashley, if you are ever in my neck of the woods.

I'm 27 now and started my business in 2021. Wish I'd known it was possible when I was at 6th form. I'd have never wasted the time doing A levels or going to Uni.
Wow, yeah, that’s amazing. That’s the kind of discussion I’m having with my two kids right now who are both doing exams at the moment. That’s also why I like to share my knowledge and experience in my training courses. I wish I knew this stuff back when I first started!

Same. Any emergency stop or accident could cause a bit of concern to me if that tank isn't secured.

Yeah, quite hard on that little pump I think. Wasn’t long before he got a proper van setup though.👍🏼

It is strapped down, but probably not the safest. He is getting a proper system fitted in his new van.💥😜👍🏼

Any help would be great I'm in the same kind of boat I have enough for a full setup but no van I have a 25 slx n 250 litre tank and while I have a budget I don't know wether to go with the water genie pump n controller with a 100 meter hose or what this lad has done with the backpack is there any problems with the backpack pressure ect and going up to 30ft

TBH having thought about it - DONT let him drive this car with the tank fitted like that. A lot us started like this but never went down the route of having 250kg not secured sat right behind us. If it was me I would have the Gardiner Back Pack in the boot with its 22L tank with a couple of 25l containers in the boot and two 25l containers in the footwells of the passenger seats and another 25l in the front passenger side foot well. Close to 150litre of water. Then just return to base to refill. He needs a van what I have detailed is a very temporary solution. Also stay on 30 mph roads not motorways till you have a professional setup.
Yeah. I’m not sure that having a bunch of loose barrels is all that great either. It is strapped down, and he doesn’t use it full every day. When he works with me he uses my system. He has already dismantled his setup and is putting together his fixed van system. Can’t wait to show you what he’s done.👍🏼

I’ve just watched this video and I’m staggered by how unprofessional and how dangerous that setup was! You were joking about obstructions being in the way of people in the passenger seat! At no point did you review how that tank ( which by the way was over the payload of that vw polo) was secured. 250 litres that’s without all the other equipment, utterly ridiculous and road safety should be paramount, you should not be reviewing such a potentially dangerous setup especially as this could encourage other idiots to do the same. We have been trying for years to make this industry safer for all concerned and this has tarnished that, dare I say almost I like you have no respect for life, well done! I’ve also noted how another has made a similar comment from this video and you have chosen to like everyone else’s but not the comment why it states how dangerous this set up is, really poor choice Ashley and I think these supporters/ suppliers of your channel that run professional businesses will be very dissatisfied you are advocating such setups. There is only one way to setup and run a business and that’s the professional way!
I did say at the beginning (if you were listening) that I wouldn’t recommend this as the best way. But you may also note the number of people who have said they started in a similar way. The fact is, when you have a low budget and maybe you hit rock bottom, people who take the initiative to start a business with what they have on hand deserve some sort of credit. At least they’re not sitting around and putting extra strain on the benefits system. Yes, i totally agree that there are safer ways of doing it. I go out of my way to put as much help and advice out there as I can, I even setup a training course to share my business experience. But the sad fact is that most people tend to just buy a few bits that they can afford and crack on. What can you do?🤷🏻♂️
Well Ashley thank you for your response. You making this kind of video is giving people the wrong message, even if as you put “ those who are starting out or who have hit rock bottom “ will continue to do their own thing and “ crack on with it”
People’s safety and protection is absolutely paramount and that should have been made absolutely clear from your side. Without doubt that vehicle is a death trap and all Occupants in that car would be seriously injured in an accident, if not killed. Whether ones continue to set systems up like this for whatever reason should not be commended or encouraged, it not just these ones driving said vehicles but other road uses as well. Such consideration from you on such a serious matter , not to mention the fact of the road safety/ traffic laws would be well recommended Ashley.
The point I was keen to make was that it is virtually impossible for a young lad to buy and insure a van. Even though Owen now has one year of driving experience it is still costing him a small fortune to get a business going. He has already dismantled the vehicle and is having a tank properly fixed in his van. I can’t wait to show you his new setup and I am keen to make the point of safety clear again.👍🏼

Story time… Owen asked for a tea, which i simply complied with. Next thing i know, Owen was swinging from the curtains, with my 3 year old in his mouth. He looked like a chubby squirrel from ice age. It was a truly unbelievable experience to see your toddler being consumed by a monster. I highly object to you putting the toddler gobbler in your household. Please don’t… 8/10 would recommend to a friend/ neighbour / better than tradman. L.
A similar thing happened to me, when he (Owen) came over to clean the windows, he disappeared for a while. When I went to look for him, I discovered the living room window open, and discovered that he snuck inside to retrieve a copy of pitch perfect 3. This really hurt me as my grandad gave it to me after my cousin died. She got ran over and was with someone called Kit Kat in the hospital. This copy of pitch perfect 3 was my ray of sunshine in what would have otherwise been a terrible week. Long story short- 6/10 and could possibly recommend
Basically I had a similar experience with Owen, heard that he wanted to clean my windows and instead bro stole my computer 😭😭
This was an inconvenience because I had the cure for dyslexia on PowerPoint and now I can’t raed.
I also saw Owen put a whole van in his jaws and he unhinged his mouth like a snake to make sure it fit in, this was also an inconvenience because I now have to walk 8000 miles to receive a hug from my mum, who died before I was born.
In my honest opinion I’ve never met a worse person in all my years of work, 9/10 could never recommend anyone better

That tank is equal weight of two full sized men sitting in the car with Owen. 440 lbs. The suspension should hold up for a while as long as he doesn't hit too many big potholes. Is he going to heat the inside of the car for winter months or heat the water tank? Winters coming.
I was going to do the exact same thing with my Jeep Commander for window cleaning and then I saw your video and reinforced my ideas. Thanks Owen for more ideas.

Been there done that 🤣 build a 160l system in my BMW 1 series and used it for about a year and a half untill last month and i bought a transport car and a 350l build in system. But its nice to see that more people like me think out of the box. Good for you! And keep up the good work

Hi mate awesome video, I use backpack & single 25litre barrels but it’s hard work dragging backpack around & filling will barrels. I wouldn’t have a clue how to set up the backpack battery/pump connected with the tank. Any chance I could get some advice on how to set this up as Owen has. I’m no good with electrics. Id really like to have hose connected with big tank would make the job easier but getting system installed is like 2k +.
