The new one is miles better than the old one. CVT instead of AMT, 6 airbags, led headlights and fog lights, better infotainment, park distance control…I could go on
The additional bags do have impact on people opting for the newer one and they did fix all the things people complained about in the previous model but still, the old one looks so so so good and whether it's cvt or amt it really doesn't have an effect on me because I think Suzukis are better with a manual transmission😹As I watched this video,I couldn't help but keep staring at the old one.Its just too well designed.
The Original 2017/18 GLX was way better, 7 airbags, fuel efficient, I used to get around 4.5l/100 on it, and while it lacked in tech, it was a hassle free car, drove it for 5 years with no problem whatsoever.
I have the 2018 Suzuki Dzire, Same shape as the old 2022 shape swift, Mine has 469000km on the clock and same engine never opened, still driving very well
@vincentmothapa2421 To put in into context; assuming he bought his car at the beginning of 2018, he was averaging 67000 km per year for 7 years. That's freaking insane
Had swift for 21 months and the gearbox gave in... Fixed it and traded in for a 1.5 baleno automatic and 2 years on and it still runs like a dream. Swift is just meant for the city and flat roads. The hills on our roads absolutely ate the swift up lol
Considering the pricing and how this car is specked I seriously wonder why people still buy the polo vivo. This car gives you all round electric windows while the vivo even the top of the range GT still offers manual windows at the back and with that price I wonder why people still buy the vivo. Personally I would buy the Suzuki through and through.
Have you driven both cars? A Polo Vivo is much more comfortable than this cupboard at highway speeds. This thing feels like it's gonna tip over every time you pass an oncoming a truck
I absolutely love this look. I saw it on TH-cam before it launched and loved it . Put my name om a waiting list immediately. Bought it November 24...The new bonnet and front look😍😍
I agree with Jacob, I would also choose the new Swift because of better features and better fuel efficiency💯 Please review the CVT Swift because most people opt for automatic nowadays
I own the previous Swift model and my plan was to upgrade to the new one but I'm no longer so convinced. The improvements seem minor with nothing particularly exciting.
Suzuki Baleno Top of the range. Bigger engine, bigger car etc. I must admit looking at the prices of German Hatchbacks this is truly refreshing to see. I'm not a Chinese Suv fan. Go Japan 🇯🇵.
I no doubt prefer the styling of the old one inside and outside, and I'd take a 4-cylinder over a 3-cylinder. The safety in the new one though! 6 airbags!!!
Still only three starts in the NCAP crashtest, because: The chest protection was weak, the Dashboard posed a risk and there were no measures to prevent head-to-head contact of the front passengers during an accident.
Which is the same as a 5 star safety rating from 15 years ago. The reason it's got that 3 star rating is because it doesn't have things like lane keep assist, auto braking etc.
@ That is simply not true. During the last 15 years the speed for the side impact test was increased and the front impact test was introduced with a moving barrier as well to simulate a real accident better. Reasons for the 3-Star rateing were as well: The chest protection was weak, the Dashboard posed a risk and there were no measures to prevent head-to-head contact of the front passengers during an accident. Around 12,000 people died on SA roads in 2021 alone: Your ignorant stance explains why.
I had the unfortunate oppurtunity to drive a swift for 3 weeks while my car was in for repairs and the only thing i liked about it was the fuel economy 🤣 my wife hated it from the get go.
The new swift got a 1 star safety rating in the ANCAP test 🤨. At this price you can get a jolion city plus with a 5 star rating for R315000 and it is a much nicer car imo. Another amazing option is the MG ZS which is around R280k and it is a 1.5 lite 4 cylinder compared to a 1.2 3 cylinder in the Suzuki. Suzuki made a huge mistake going from the amt to the cvt and going from a 4 cylinder to a 3 cylinder. This car is a rip off, when my mother was going to buy a brand new swift glx auto 3 years ago it was under 200k
I'm driving the new GL+ CVT I can tell you that it's easy to drive and way better than the AMT. I highly recommend it. It doesn't make sense why please still wanna drive a 5-speed manual in 2025
would be nice if you threw in a drag race between the 2 :) would be nice to see the performance difference between the 2. also if you cruising at 120kmh on the highway with both cars which one would give you the better consumption? i would think with smaller engines youll need to put you foot down more oftern then a more powerful engine which could actualy work out worse in terms of fuel consumtion "sometimes". so the question is, is it really worth it to pay for the newer model?
The three cylinder should, just like in Europe, actually be used in combination with a mild hybrid, then there is actually no difference in speed and pulling power with the old 4 cylinder engine. And the car becomes a bit more economical.
I can't believe that the top spec Suzuki swift (the standard not the sport) is almost R350000 🤯. BYD is bringing the dolphin mini to South Africa this year for around R350000 and that's a much, much better car in every single way no doubt.
@Wezzo-dp7xv recommended retail is 285k but some dealerships are close to 350k which is insane. 3 years ago my mom nearly bought a Suzuki swift glx, it was 195k brand new for the top spec.
@Demertech no they not check listing most expensive one listed is 285k and I just spoke to a few guys at three different dealers that agreed with me on the price. BYD must still prove to make better cars then Suzuki Fyi the swift is one of the best in it's class tech, safety and fun and engaging to drive for a budget car
@Wezzo-dp7xv BYDs global sales in November where the second highest in the world behind only Toyota. BYD has proven themselves so many times. Check the video of the BYD Yangwang U9 jumping over spikes, it is the most bonkers thing I've seen.
I think our cars come from India, and it looks to me as if they are only built with the one engine size, and no hybrid option. In Europe you can also get an all wheel drive version. But of course all those extra features will cost money. For instance the starting price in the UK is the equivalent of more than R400 000.
So, if the engine wasn’t broken, why “fix it” with the 3 cylinder that from this review offers zero benefit. And how can you claim the 3 cylinder motor is reliable when its only just come out!! Also, where is the new Sport? The old model was a real pocket rocket. See if you can buy a secondhand one now. Owners are hanging on to. A future classic.
I have the previous 2023 GLX manual. It has weird handling characteristics. Around corners is fine, but in straight roads, it feels like it drifts around a lot. I hate it. Wonder if wider 16” wheels will help that instead of the standard 15”s. I really don’t know. Anyone else have the same thing with theirs? Know what I mean? Like, you look away for a second and you are heading off the road. Won’t recommend without the required mods, but I don’t know what they are.
@@mqondisizuma1039 so it is not just me!!! I don’t have funds to do that right now. Have you investigated the actual reason why it does that? Is it maybe sway bars or the suspension components or just the wheels and tyres? I replaced the original Chinese brand tyres with Conti’s after a month of ownership but that didn’t help much. It is so weird! Never feel comfortable driving it. And my girlfriend sometimes drives it and I stress about that each time.
I like the daylight running LEDs and the find my car LED start features. The engine start/stop and cruise control is also very important for fuel efficiency long term. Looking forward to buying the newest GLX in April
Glad they didn't compare the 2nd Generation Swift GLS. Cause even though the last facelift of it is now 10 Years old.. it is still a better car. Well it was not a budget car back in 2015 like what the swift has become unfortunately. Some things like the infotainment system is now dated. But it compares more to the current Baleno GLX. 2nd gen to me is still the prettiest shape of them all. My opinion is that 4th gen glx swift is definitely closer to the 2nd gen gls Swift. But not quite there yet. 3rd gen is just horrible. So if you want to buy a more solid swift, rather look at the 2nd generation swifts. They might have higher km on like mine but definitely no issues what so ever(depending on previous owner maintenance and how they actually treated the car).
No, for me the previous model is a better car. This car feels like a step down. 3 cylinder, less horsepower, CVT gearbox, narrower body, smaller boot space, etc, etc.

I'd rather buy a used Baleno GLX. You can get a 23/24 Baleno GLX for the price of a new Swift GLX. You get a bigger car with a more powerful engine.
