An explanation I came up with for this au: Giyuu is actually Xie Lian after book 4 at the start of his 800 year human phase thing? Basically he went to another country where demon slayer takes place and made close friends with (cannon Tomioka's) sister and Sabito, they both died don't ask how idk either. Demons are what they call violent ghosts there. Tomioka is kinda out of character for xl because this is when xl was in his just traumatized phase. Xie Lian leaves when they have defeated Muzan (a calamity ig?) and ascends again after many years, from then goes tgcf plot :D
