Malaiesti Fortress - A Little Known Jewel In The Land Of Hateg

- 🔴 ENG Mălăiești Fortress is a small fortress located near the village of Mălăiești, commune Sălașu de Sus, Hunedoara county.
The fortress was built in the 14th century by the family lords Sărăcin. After several phases of construction, completed at the end of the 16th century, the fortress was composed of a central tower (dungeon) surrounded by a nearly circular wall, reinforced with four towers and several buttresses.
At the beginning of the 17th century, the last descendant of the Sărăcin family died and the towers were burned down. The last episode in the dramatic history of the fortress is marked by a rebellion at the beginning of the 18th century. A group of rebels (rebellion against the Habsburg Empire) withdrew here trying to oppose one last resistance. Later, the fortress was abandoned and it became a ruin, which was recently renovated (mostly reconstructed) and equipped with a few exhibits that try to reproduce the atmosphere of medieval times. From a ruin, it has become a very attractive museum.

You can see the same themes in all the forts in that area. Very similar in a lot of ways. Great exhibits inside. Love the selection of weapons they had.
