Every single one of those earth construction theories explained by the expert at the start make more sense than anything Flat Earth-ers have brought to the table.
*History Fact:* John Cleves Symmes Jr. tried to convince Congress in 1823 to finance an expedition to one of the "holes". They turned him down but he somehow convinced President John Quincy Adams to give him ships. However, Andrew Jackson became President & reversed Adams' decision to equip Symmes' journey.
It's extra confusing because it came 2 years after this episode, and I'm still wondering why exactly they said 'It's Gary' but maybe they were familiar with the movie already kinda like other callbacks to other movies they hadn't riffed but were very familiar with. It's likely just something I'm not aware of or noticing yet, but it will always be a bit of a trip to me so perhaps remaining in ignorance would be more fun than finding out.
Oh, and I also wonder a bit about the South Park reference years before South Park. Likely it's just a coincidence, but there is a chance that Stone and Parker possibly liked MST3K and used that very similar line for their infamous Kenny line that is said after he dies in every episode. Or maybe they're both getting the line 'those bastards' or 'you bastards' from something else altogether.
4:30 Asia? Might as well say somewhere on Earth. No one from Asia will be shown in this movie. Despite how big it is. 10:45 Naked Spelunking The Brand New Trend everyone is doing. 18:43 Caucasian people who live deep underground in Asia speak perfect English. Because... why not? 19:14 You can't suppose 3 more people? 19:31 Guys who have been fighting with swords their whole lives are bested by guys who just picked up swords. 19:42 Maybe if I knock these things over, it will force them to step over them. 20:07 Aren't they live in a giant cavern filled with light? 32:28 Ok, but where did they find clothes for her, and they fit perfectly? 32:50 You had so much more mansplaining to me to do.
Yeah I'm still a bit confused by it because The Mole People episode came 2 seasons before The Horrors of Spider Island episode, so there may be something about it that I'm not aware of, something only the writers would know.
@@wileyschmitt That is true. I hadn't thought about it. But what can you say? They referenced "Coily" with that waffles routine, and didn't get to the actual film until the last season.
@@wileyschmitt I think he actually said "It's Gerry!" and making a very insider reference. while they didn't riff the Mole People until season 8, it was a famous B-movie, and the design of the mole creatures were iconic and known even to those not familiar with the film (much like the Metalunan Mutant, or the Robot Monster, thanks to things such as Famous Monsters of Filmland). in the early Comedy Central era down in Deep 13 sometimes the Mads were assisted by minions (in a similar manner to Kinga's Boneheads in season 11 onwards) who were designed after the Mole People creatures, named Gerry and Sylvia (after the Andersons, the creators of Thunderbirds and other british super-marination serieses (what Team America was a parody of). so now you know. and knowing is half the battle.
"I treasure these precious moments when John Agar isn't talking."
This is Hans Moleman, with Moleman in the Morning. Good Moleman to you!!!

At least these are imaginative and made sense as to why people once believed them.
"Better tell Elizabeth you're coming." LOL
The whole opening with "the professor" made me crack up
I'm *FADING!*
It all sounds improvised too
‘Thank you Hanna Arendt’😊
John Agar is man-splaining personified.
@@johnpendarvis7885 Imagine being the type of person who feels compelled to defend John Agar. Couldn’t be me.
John Agar...the Doug McCure of his movie era!!
🎶With your feet in the air & your head on the ground🎶
...talk about an appropriate song, lol GJ
"You want it when?" 🤣
"You want it when?"
That chick is total representation of a tease. Shes all over the guy till he gets her outdoors, then she bounces.

The Gary clip interposition was unexpected and confusing.
Great!

No dance footage? That’s my favorite part. 😊
Down and down and down....
Considering how good John Agar has been to them, they are really cruel.

Thanks for pointing out the whole "Jerry” thing. I never noticed that.
I mean "Gary."

33:12 SHUT UP
Why is a professor of English telling us about geology? : )
And his geology is about as precise as one would expect from a professor of English.
Why is that globe round???
Mole people know better....
I was waiting for the "professor" to get to the Flat Earth model.
