I used to watch this show as a kid growing up in the 1960s. Liked this show. I could be wrong but I believe the last season was the first time it was made in color. Many years later I read the reason that combat was taken off TV was because it was considered too violent and graphic especially in the color episodes where they were actually showing wounds and blood and that was considered taboo back in those days to see on TV
The reason COMBAT! was cancelled was due to getting the series into syndication. Since network primetime was in color, the market was dwindling for a series that had four of its five seasons in black & white. COMBAT! was replaced with another WWII series, Garrison's Gorillas.
Multiple German automatic weapons firing and the jeeps just ride through it and win the skirmish. Well, 'Combat' had enough virtues to make you overlook things like this.
I was thinking the exact same thing I love them in this case what the hell are they doing in the desert when they're in Europe that's all I want to know
"The Hell Machine" S3E28, [1965] - If you like Tanks this a is a Great Episode. Combat would become the Classic Series because of the Writing and Acting of the Characters. However, That German Tank was not a real one. It was a Bulldog Tank made in America toward the end of WWII. When this series was filmed it was hard to get a Panzer or Tiger Tank in filming - However the point was made. A brilliant performance by Frank Gorshin as a washed out tank driver. If you want to win a war and you can Confuse, Trick, Fool, or Out Maneuver the Enemy - That's were it's at. I saw this Episode when I was 11 Years old and I am a Baby Boomer of the time period. Sgt. Saunders: Thompson Machine Gun came in petty handy in taking care of the Germans. One great scene was the Wounded Captain wearing a German Tank Hat and only showing his head part was clever. I give this Episode four Stars [****] and the Directing was very good. Getting back to your lines is necessary when your at War. I'm sorry that we live in a Fallen World; but when you see people like Sgt. Saunders: there is hope for the Human Race. Kirby, Little John, Doc, Cage, and Lt Handley makes me feel that we will Evolve into a Peaceful Society and Man will not Kill or do "War" no more...Glenn E. Smith Jr. 04/16/2015, Thursday, Vietnam Veteran. >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
Definitely reused footage from the earlier episode with Telly Savalas as a Greek officer playing Rat Patrol. (Glenn - Panzer is German for tank - the Panther PzKw V and the Tiger I Pzkw VI were specific late war models, which along with the tried PzKw IVs, would have been on the battlefield in later 1944.
I appreciate the information. I notice a lot of old scenes in a lot of theses old series to but get so into it that I try to put it aside and just enjoy the entertainment aspect of the production. I can't dissect and enjoy it at the same time. What's the sinse in that ? Just in joy the damn show .
Everyone keeps making Rat Patrol jokes, but I literally have playlists of Combat, Rat Patrol (and The Rifleman) episodes saved and I seriously thought I had hit the wrong one for a second 😭😭😭
Elsbeth, they must have also been really bad soldiers. It took them 5 years to make it across France, and the rest of the Army needed only 11 months. But having watched this show every Tuesday night 50 years ago, I'm glad they were slowpokes and extended the war.
GoldenWinger001 Well history has it in a 1942 the Germans lost out in out in northern Africa to the Americans so are most of those screws went to Europe and helped out in the French invasion there’s your answer thank you have a nice day
grabit1 - You bet. They must have walked from one end of France to the other by the time they got done with all of these episodes. Ha, Ha, LOL At least they stayed physically in shape. Hum, 0.50 caliber cool, I'd take it. :)
Kirby's the 'most' (Jack Hogan) with a REAL BAR on the set at 20 odd pounds for his comitment for realism, the trigger group deactivated for T.V. Robert at 67.
Aaaah penny. How unfortunate thdlat your father gone. Me and my young brother would play army in the alley just behind our house. We would pretrnd that we were just like an army squad in the show combat.
Combat! was an entertainment show intended to garner ratings and sell commercial products. We actually had other viewing choices back then to include serious documentaries about the war as well as movies ranging from Oscar winners to blood and guts B movies. Books and other printed media on the war were everywhere. Also, growing up in the 50s and 60s, almost everyone's father or mother served in the military or war production. Their viewpoint on the war counted for everything. My generation grew up in the shadow of the biggest event in human history. There was never any doubt as to who won the war...no psychologic interpretation or conditioning needed.
@@clevlandblock it was also a World War with many other countries involved. Yeah , as a kid I thought the U S won but school and my older peers told me different , the truth.
How can tires squeal on dirt? This isn't the first episode where this happens. So if tires squeal on dirt, what sound do they make on asphalt or concrete? HAHAAHA
+Baskerville22 I agree, but let's not be too hard on Jason. He usually comes across emotionless and stern. He's trying show that he's tough guy Lt. in charge. I don't watch the show for all the drama bs anyways. I watch it to see Saunder's Tommy gun spitting out chunks of lead and brass, Kirby's BAR blasting away, and to see Cage slamming clips of 30-06 in his M1.
+Cooll Asice Rescue was a great episode with Rick Jason but the real stars but only got co starring role credits 👎🏻were Edward Binns and Guy Stockwell .Binns also played in the movie Gunfight at OK Corral as Ike Clanton .Also played a bad guy in the Rifleman .As the boss at Skull Ranch .
I was in the Air Force when much of this series was aired 1965. I NEVER TIRE OF WATCHING.
Thank you for y I ur service and God's blessings!
One of the best episodes 👍👍👍
Notice Doc's lines are always "not good" too funny.
Reminds me of The Rat Patrol. Thanks for sharing.
I had a cool Rat Patrol lunch box in the 1960s. LOL

It was in color and it had a different feel to it.
No, the real reason was network was TOO cheap!!!!
I like B&W episodes better seem more authentic like watching historical footage

Do you know is really cool? Kicking back at home with an ice cold Heinekin...wacthing "Combat!!!!"

Lee Marvin appeared. Actually showed real combat shooting techniques from USMC training.
Not bad an episode.Like the mind game Sgt. Saunders plays with the germans.
The opening was from the episode with Telly Savalas in it.
looks like its filmed in backcountry of 1000 oaks calif.
I thought i was watching Rat Patrol for a moment. Lol!

I like the U.S Half Tracks the Germans are using too. Lol!

Tell me the worst thing is having to do patrol w that stumble bum big John, your odds at taking Jerry Shrapnel goes up 10xs
The Rat Patrol in France!
Why do the tires squeal on dirt?

Since when does Sounders and his men ride, they are always walking some place regardless of how far away it is. Rat Patrol in France? - LOL.
Maybe they were all TIRED of walking!!!

Why I need one of those jeeps with a 50 caliber in the back!
Yep perfect for clearing this no good country of evil demoshits...
Once again the rat patrol meets combat.
So did I!😁

This was part of obvious social psychological conditioning since the end of WW2 giving the generational impression to the Masses we Won the War.

I've heard tires squeal on dirt before not often but they can if it's packed hard
