while i cant speak on the pvp part of the game the pve is not pay to win you can get through the story fine with just bazaar gear, the pack gear varies in stats as it's mainly for stitching(most of the best gear is farmed through bosses). while not a great sistem to have in a game, if your playing through the story you dont need to purchase anything from the crown shop
@@scurvybanana np! i think while not perfect both wiz and pirate have very fun stories and are worth experiencing, one thing about pirate especially is that like many mmos it goes the silent protagonist route however the companions you get help give the dialog a good back and forth instead of just having a lot of text dumped on you, it makes the story more interesting imo
Fortunately, the devs have worked to ensure that the best gear in the game has no paywall as long as you have the worlds unlocked or membership. But for some of the most meta builds, some are pay to win. For example, it still costs 30$ to get the best gear for musketeers if you are running a hybrid build, which is one of the best in the game at the moment for pve. I do enjoy that pvp is slightly different than pve with couter builds becoming more and more prevalent. (I.e. using gun-wielding companions with abilities like quick draw (attacks first if shot at) and true grit (attacks if they are hit by an enemy gun) have become more popular due to musketeer being the most popular class.
@@michaelcumberbatch831 true the top tier bulids do tend to be atleast somewhat pay to win but there are plenty of solid builds for the casual pve scene that dont cost a dime, and this is where newer player find themselves most often, while theres always room to criticize and improve i think gear is in a pretty good place
@@dragonkin8442 Definetly is lol, I would say even the free to play gear is definetly good enough to beat the pay to win stuff at least 40% of the time. Gear is definetly in that sweet spot where it's somewhat worth it to buy gear, but the free gear is comparable if not better. I mean, on my max musketeer I have all free gear except for my chest lol. Plus the pet system being more community based rather than pay to win is great too.
I've looked at your channel and you like the tropical setting? After Skull island we go to a bunch of different worlds but rarely come back to our home world. It is the cheapest though if you were to buy it all ($10) So if you just wanted to try pirate for the aesthetic of the game i'd buy the first book which is $5 bucks and if you like it go for the rest of skull island which would be another 5.
I did manage to play up to the point where I visit Monquista for the first time before the trial week ended. The other sections of game stray away from a tropical theme?
@@scurvybanana We do visit skull island again where we go to a place called portal regal though if I remember thats around level 40. its full of the queens men so we have to hide that we are a pirate to get in. also do you think you could cover pirates of the atlantic or assassins creed black flag?

@scurvybanana Well, for example, you visit Valencia during the Monquista questline, and that is basically Italy. Then the next world is Cool Ranch, which is themed on the American wild west. There's Mooshu, which is based on various Asian cultures... so yeah. It gets pretty varied lol.
