Check out the Tsunami Backwater rods. They're only available at Walmart. Best value in rods I've ever found, and I've used $20-$200 rods. The Tsunamis absolutely put a whoopin on inshore fish and they're only about $30. Unbelievable value.
Sooo, I tried out the whole scent thing y’all had a video on. My wife didn’t follow it, guess who caught fish? That video was on point, thanks guys! The trout were extremely finicky, wouldn’t hardly bite anything, if they did, it was just a quick pop and nothing afterward. I free-lined some finger mullet and hooked into a 19”, not very big, but my new PB. I’m growing and learning all the time.
Same here. Went out the next day and was concious of touching my line, rubbed a little gulp juice all over the leader and line to line knot before throwing out my mirrodine. Hooked up on a few ladies and a decent tarpon when no else was getting any bites.
Robert Schneider Oh nice. I actually picked up some gulp spray, sprayed my line and my hands. I also kept a bucket of fresh salt water to rinse my hands of the fish slim, not all of it but just enough my hands didn’t feel nasty.
With a tiny bit of experience all you gotta do is hold the rod out and twitch/quickly snap the rod as you feel and watch the tip. That'll tell you all you need to know about action and sensitivity, not to mention weight, ergos, guides, etc. You can feel the power and feel/see the action. I try not to take brand new rods I haven't paid for yet and push the tip into the floor.
Need your expert advice. I purchased a broom stick once and not again. I surf fish using 3-4 ounce pyramid sinkers. I just purchased St Croix Legend, 10’ 6” medium heavy power, moderate fast action. Is this another broom stick? I am second guessing myself again. What are your thoughts!
Generally speaking, it’s universal. 20lb line SHOULD perform like 20lb line whether it be mono, fluoro or braid. BUT ... obviously there will be diameter differences AND not all line strength ratings are perfectly exact for the line. Some manufacturers may claim 20lb but in tests it breaks frequently shy that rating while other line may rate at 20lb but usually far outperform and break well over its rating (tons of TH-cam on this). Again this is all generally speaking. Buy good line from reputable manufacturer and have confidence in its rating. But cheap crap from CHN and take your chances.
I'm packing up my flyrod right now for a trip down to the Keys... the main reason for going down is to spearfish and then catch some lobster for mini-season, but I'll try to get a fly in front of some tarpon and/or bonefish if I get a chance.
I’ve learned a lot from this video. Always enjoy watching the videos very informative and helpful especially since I’m kind of new to the saltwater fishing world.
err ok so when your rod says ultra light or light or medium etc this is the power ? if so then where do they specify the action fast tip or whatever because i do not see that on any rod
Yes, the Power rating is defined by terms of weight (light, medium heavy, etc.). The action of the rod is usually shown on the blank too... it's defined by terms of speed (fast, extra fast, moderate, etc.).
I'd like to see a video about 2 pc vs 1 pc surf rods, and if buying a 2 pc rod is or is not a waste of money. I hooked a nice yellow fin with an old 2 pc and the rod self destructed right before I got the fish on board, I hand lined it onboard but I don't want to repeat that event again.
I have found that quite a few if not most line ratings are for mono line. Some rods will say momo rating and braided line rating on their website. So, I end up comparing diameter of mono to that of braid to determine the line rating of a lot of rods. Is the line rating for the TFO for mono or braided line?
Check out the full blog on our website and post your question there. That way, our coaches can respond back directly with their input and recommendation. You can find that here: www.saltstrong.com/articles/fishing-rod-power-action/
I do not recommend medium light rods for soft plastics... especially if you're rigging them weedless. A MH fast action rod will get much better results.
Salt Strong I needed the video there is a lot of info out there and I was having a hard time figuring out the heavy and fast etc your video explained a lot
The two kinds of rod's carbon rods and fiberglass to get your power you need and tip flex s the Action like slow to fast Action is all I need. Me I like medium power with moderate Action to fast Action sometimes medium heavy power fast Action works great for bass. But in a fiberglass rods and low carbon in it to have more flexibility. So many rod blanks to pick from. I see to much people listening to the Rong thing for the Rong place to fish. But wat is rong but people using bass rigs in a lake that has trout fishing only is one of those things. Hight mountain lake of N.M. is a trout fishing paradise. Just talk to your local fishing store and where you are going to fish and what you need to get one. They will talk to you just ask. Not a big box store don't know what they're talking about.
I think the moral of this story is … what feels good in your hand… and what works for you and not what you spent on your rod … there are are rods you can spend a fortune on and you will hate that rod so much .. and wish you never bought it…. “ what feels good to you”

Great breakdown of rod power and action. Concerning that from rod to rod manufacturer they differ

I bet tackle shop owners love that last bit haha
@@Rainersherwood it's cringe inducing even as an employee lol
Thank you for the easy to understand rod selection tips.
💪💪
So for light lures, light action and heavy lures heavy action?
Thank you. I'm new to baitcasting and can't get any distance. I needed something that would flex better. My rod is to stiff.
Glad it was helpful
Been looking in the insider store for a new rod! Love them discounts. I'm thinking st Croix or maybe star
Would you recommend getting a TFO medium light power?
Very good information. How much the rod and reel set up actually weighs is a very important factor for casting lures all day.
The give to rods is for treble hook lures
Slow / moderate, basically where ones not setting a hook.
Keeps them on.
Great video. A lot of people don’t know the difference. Very helpful
Thanks!
Is that line rating for mono? Thanks for all the great videos.
yes, it refers to Mono in most cases unless it specifies braid. Thanks for the nice comment! We appreciate the support!

Is the line strength range rating universal (i.e., applies to braid, mono, flouro, etc.) or for specific type of line (e.g., braid)?

What type of reel and rod would you recommend whe. Fishing from the top of a bridge for tarpon and black drum?
can you explain what MAG is? for example a rod is MAG medium
Is it good I use to my fishing rod is 15lb line
My rod rating is 10lb to 17lb . Or should I pick the 10lb line pls suggest one
you will have better casting distance with the 10# braid, but either will work. 💪

Very HELPFUL guys, thank you!!!
What are a rod and reel that are perfect for 65lb braid
But you didn’t explain which type of rod is best for what type of fishing. Artificial vs live bair
So easy to follow you. Should have more subs
Nice video and we'll explained. Thank you
Please give me best rods list for soft plastic lure, topwater
Thank you.
Will that work with two pieces rods as well.
Hi guys, do you know if a shimano Tallus PX 7' med power fast action rod be suitable for bottom fishing off shore for big mangrove snapper?
Rated 20-40 lbs

Can you test or grade Shimano rods?
We can add this to the list, thank you for the suggestion!
I bought an anchor and some fishing line. Now I just need a boat and a rod&reel.
I want to get a new 7ft medium heavy rod I have a 150 vsx van staal to put on it what rod do you suggest?
Go longer then 7 ft 8-9 feet for the VSX 150

I believe the medium TFO feels more like a MH than a M

Salt Strong well i mostly use 1/8 oz jigheads to be honest. I was told i needed a light action rod. Sorry im still fairly new to fishing
Thanks for this video
Thank You!
You're welcome!
What does REGULAR action mean? (In one of the rod's description it was mentioned as follows:
Rod power : Extra Heavy
Action : Regular).

Med-Heavy power fast action St. Croix the best!!

Slow rods cast farther. They load up more. Like you said, it’s why a fly rod is slow.
Thanks for sharing!
you should have ended the video at 1:00 and it would be 100% correct. After 1:00 you messed it all up.
Thanks for the feedback
I like extra fast
Fast action = broken tip.
Think about it. Fast action is not that great.
