      It’s one of the dumbest tropes of Hollywood. All physical damage has to somehow show up on the bridge. Dumb dumb beyond retarded. It insults the intelligence. Unless there’s a direct hit to the bridge there should be zero damage there.

      Kurn told him to get back to his post when he was suggesting they run from an earlier battle. It's isn't universal
      Usually when Worf does something he doesn't suggest, and Picard doesn't complain. When Worf is reacting in the standard way to an unusual situation, he gets rebuffed because his solution is the one that won't work.

      In Picard, people act like Picard and the crew of the Enterprise were renegade cowboys who took the law into their own hands, but Picard was the definition of by-the-book. It wasn’t until the movies when he did anything blatantly rebellious. And even then, he still tried to uphold the spirit of the law, if not the letter.

  • @LordUzaki

    Just think about it for a second. Had Kurn not arrived to save Gowron, then his ship would have likely been destroyed. Had that happened, the Civil War would have gone to The Duras and as a result, we would of seen The Khitomer Accord's fall and a new alliance between Klingons and Romulans. A literal nightmare for The Federation.
    Picard's decision to leave Gowron could have quite literally sealed The Federations fate. So many times in Trek do we see the stubborn decisions to stick to Federation "Morality" literally spell doom for their entire society only for them to survive by what ultimately amounts to pure luck and or actual defiance of those morals.

    • @Sr89hot

      The Romulan Klingon alliance would have defeated the Federation. Then the Borg would have returned and the Romulans would have left the Klingons to be assimilated. In a short time they would be fighting a losing battle to the Borg. The Dominion would have come through the worm hole saw what was happening and got the hell out of the Alpha quadrant. The Bejoran would have followed the Dominion through the worm hole to escape, then the being in the worm hole would close it off to keep them safe.

    At 3:05, Kurn's ship fires on a bird of prey that is cloaking with its shields still up. As has been long established in canon, ships have to drop their shields in order to cloak, ships can't put their shields up while cloaked, and being fired upon while cloaked temporarily drops the cloak.
    What this illustrates is that Star Trek has always played a little loose with some of the finer points of Canon, and we shouldn't get too upset by these small oversights, or try too hard to create headcanon that one of the attacking ships was testing out some kind of new and improved cloaking technology.

      That's the problem with having multiple writers on a series. Each one has different ideas for a character that's been established as either a favorite or vital to some role in moving the plot along. I can't blame them for killing off Jadzia or Tasha Yar (the actresses wanted to leave) or even Data. Characters like Gowron, Ziyal, or K'Ehleyr, that's a different story. There could have been more potential for those characters' arcs, even if they were minor appearances.

    Picard sure does get to call the shots in matters of interplanetary war/diplomacy more than any ship's captain should, even if he is an ambassador. Imagine a US warship encounters a firefight between factions of an ally, a firefight that with the US ship caught in the middle. Imagine if the choice had to be made to defend the government of an ally or to avoid meddling in a civil war. How many minutes do you think it would take for Washington to contact the captain directly with orders on how to proceed? But Picard acts on behalf of the Federation without consulting his superiors? Is the President of the United Federation of Planets ever made aware of these happenings? Because the President should know within minutes and even if other ships aren't dispatched, Picard should be on the phone immediately with some people in a War Room somewhere.
    But instead Picard just decides we're going to do this, we're going to do that, and I'll assume it's what the Federation wants. In reality half of the episodes would end with Picard being chewed out by his superiors for his brazen assumption of command in interplanetary dealings. Sisko took a lot of liberties, but he always had to answer to people.

      The cruiser type. The light attack craft usually has its wings down in attack position. Once the Vor'cha and Bird of Prey were CGI, the large BOP was not seen. Physical model had mechanically articulated wings. At one point, the wings jammed in a slightly elevated position, which is where they stayed. The scaling is always going to be a problem. While the Vor'cha was either the Battlecruiser or Attack cruiser, it was the same ship. The BOP had between three and six ships because there wasn't a new model built for each type depicted, from fighter to battle cruiser.

    I did not agree with Picard's decision here. It may be a civil war but Gowron was the officially recognised leader of the Klingon Empire and the Duras family were a rebel faction. With Gowron as official leader of the Klingon Empire who are allied with the Federation AND putting out a general distress call The Enterprise should have defended Gowron's ship. They would not have had to destroy the other ships to end the engagement. Simply disable their weapons and allow them to retreat.

    • @SantomPh
      @SantomPh 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Gowron was not installed yet. Klingon-wise the leadership was still up for grabs. Even if Gowron had been chancellor for years, it is still a Klingon internal affair which the Federation will not interfere in, at least until Federation safety is at risk.
      The Duras sisters would say Picard interfered in the succession, violating his job as the Arbiter, and then claim the leadership via Toral.
      The Admiralty advised Picard not to get involved, except to prevent Romulan intervention in the war, which they did to Gowron's benefit.
      This is long term diplomacy, make your allies need you without actually directly helping them. It's what NATO is doing now with Ukraine, essentially. The Klingons concluded their civil war, but will be grateful to Picard for ending the foreign intervention from a mutual enemy, which immediately led to the collapse of the Duras faction.

    • @rickmaurer8726
      @rickmaurer8726 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Short term yes but long term Gowron would have been compromised by receiving Federation aid. As a result he would have faced endless rebellions against his leadership. By winning the war on his own, Gowron had proven himself to the various Klingon houses. Thus the Empire was spared civil war without end.

    • @oldtwinsna8347
      @oldtwinsna8347 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Picard had no authority here to make a call of that magnitude involving the Federation. There was no threat to the Enterprise, after all, nor any other Federation colonies. So a knee-jerk reaction taken by Picard would not be seen favorably by the Federation council and likely would result in removal of command. Picard took the correct step.
