I just saw this on the Carol Burnett show on Decades TV channel. I usually keep the TV on for background noise while i'm busy doing other stuff, but when I saw this begin I just had to sit down for it. It was so damn good and when it finished I had to Google it hoping it was somewhere online to see and now I can watch it again and again!! :)
Amazing...in heels! After watching this I looked up her bio, as I wondered if she was classically trained..she want to Balanchine's school of American Ballet
Wow! I remember seeing this when I was just a kid! I couldn't remember whose show it was on, but now I realize it was the Carol Burnett Show. This was really exotic for TV of that period, almost like burlesque, and kind of kinky as well. Thanks for posting. So many things from the past can be found on TH-cam. It's like a Time Machine.
She's so f'kn pretty and talented! Women like Chita Rivera are a once in a lifetime gift. The select few who were lucky enough to know/perform with her must've had a blast working with her. The best of a past that can never be revamped, nor experienced as a new and pivotal kind of entertainment. Anyways, I wish I was old enough back then to had known of Chita Rivera. I definitely would've bought a ticket to watch her perform.
Truly amazing! My thanks to my pal Susan for sending this to me, and of course, big thanks to ChitaRiveraVideos for having posted! The only sad part is that we're not likely ever to see such talent on TV again! Short of PBS, I can't imagine any of the networks or cable channels that would let anyone perform for almost six minutes without a commercial break!
@@nonenoneonenonenone I'm sure this was not in anyone's mind when the Broadway musical Kiss of the Spider Woman was developed. It was first a novel, then a play adaptation, then a film adaptation, and then in 1990 there was a workshop production directed by Hal Price and choreographed by Susan Stroman that didn't involve Chita (or anyone who would end up in the Broadway production). It's just a coincidence that this strange but amusing moment from Carol Burnett seems to foreshadow what comes 22 years later.

Totally forgot about this Blood Sweat and Tears classic. RIP Chita.

Американский балет? Танец мюзикла,подтанцовки и стриптиза. И это хорошо👍
Simply fabulous! True art and a sign of the times!

That’s very much not burlesque in any way
Fabulous performance by Chita Riviera, and love the choreography!
Amazing and made my day! Thanks for posting this!

This woman has more energy than some 20 year olds...Love you Chita!
She was trained for stamina in dancing.
Campy is not the right word, it is creative and theatrical, and she is amazing, one of the best star dancers ever.
I agree. I didn't find it campy at all.
It seems like she was just here with us.Not so very long ago, god rest you
perfect choice of music!
I feel sorry for her first victim. He had to hang like that through the whole performance! 😮😮😮
Wow, Que Chingona!
And she would two decades later open as the title star of "Kiss of the Spider Woman" on Broadway. I wonder if this number served as any inspiration!
One of the rare times the dancers on the show couldcreally be dancers and not just background people.
blood sweat & tears!
Thanks!
Klasse!!!!😊
Was this before she ever thought of starring in Kiss of the Spider Woman? Looks just like the spider web from the show's scenery.
It probably was in the back of their minds.

Ironic, considering she would go on to play the title role in kiss of the spider woman.
"Drivin' young men insane"....like 14 year old me, BITD.
The CBS construction crew had to be ready for anything. They probably had a few days to get the large spidder web made.
Choreography by Ernest Flatt. Chita is in her upper 30s here.
1971
Spiders sure didn't look like that in Ohio....thanks.
You could do a lot of evil with those legs !
what year is this?
Camp
that was really good. But can she lip sync? 😀
I can’t stand these fake jive-talk 1940s-style musicals.
