Since I first heard Van Morrison singing 4 years ago, I felt a very strong connection to his music. Since then, I hear or see every day, some presentation of him. I really appreciate your music, voice, band and your beautiful compositions! I congratulate you and wish that God bless you with a long life of physical, mental and emotional health; so that his old and new fans can enjoy and get to know his beautiful work.👏👏👏🎶🎹🎸🎷🌷🌷🌹🌹😍❤️
Well he's an introvert. He has to be, and He only gets better. Rich with talent, streaming it through, and pouring it out. He keeps on, keeps on shining.
I like how he is simple, forthright and just honest. I've been watching interviews of Van and I was thought the man was going to speak in words of brilliance but it's almost better than that. His expression of things are perfect. Simple and well thought out that come effortlessly. He has no trouble saying what he means. I don't know if it makes sense... It's just that I love this man music and art.
Van’s talent is simply amazing! My husband and I knew a lot of musicians from his work and Van is unlike any artist I’ve ever known! He’s different from all the rest in a good way!
It's a testament to his talent that even though he has walked off of concerts and has been sometimes extremely rude to his audience, people still turn out in droves to see him live. I saw him live in Toronto, just after he turned 70 and he was amazing. He has been giving us this incredible music for over 50 yrs. He deserves everything he's gotten. He's earned it all, pretty well by himself. From the writing of hundreds of songs to the heavily booked concerts that he is still giving. My guess, regardless of his grumpy exterior, is that Van Morrison totally loves what he's doing. He is both in a league of his own and up there with the greats and I am so glad he is still doing live shows and producing albums. Genius!
It's called being true to yourself...no airs or graces. He isn't grumpy in this interview at all. He's in great form, you just don't get Belfast people. We say it like it is, and people don't like it. Take us or leave us, there's none like us. Van let's his voice speak for him, musically speaking. Sounds as great as he ever did. If that's grumpy...I'll take it.
I think Van Morrison's depth of inward journey's makes him a beautifully unique musician. I deeply admire and love his song's and bravely walked seasoned soul.
Man he is just so good. He has never stopped being good which is quite unique where consistency is concerned. 'Into the Mystic' would easily be my favourite songs of his. It's so special. Truly stunning
. . . Very , very few wines ... " Get better the older it is " ... about 0.1% . 95% plus of all wines made need to be 'enjoyed' within 1-5 years. I hope that helps - a few years down the timeline.
People mention his grumpiness and I've seen him walk off stage myself (he came back on), but I was told a story by a waitress who served him regularly that showed a completely different and kind side to him. Always look at him differently now.
Good interview, and he tells us himself that his performances are a psychodrama, not his true self. Musicians are often not the same as their music. Van guards himself, creates a boundary through his music, albeit a creative, expressive one, and his trusted musicians are his royal guard. He is not his music, however, IMO. He is what he says he is, "a double agent." Still, I have to respect and love his music and his personhood, what can be gleaned from him.
Wish He would come to Oregon ... Eugene would be Great :) ... I'm sure he's been everywhere met everyone and done most everything Might as well come to Beautiful Green Oregon
Not that amazed by his recent stuff, but I know he still can TURN IT ON now and then. But main point is, the quality of his recent stuff is a fair bit better than the muck his contemporaries are squeezing out.

Heres how I see it.If Van wants to do what he wants and not what the paying customer wants thats grand. My family and I have seen him hundreds of times. We have paid hard earned cash for many years and rarely have been short changed musically speaking. However, its a tad disrespectful to hear Sir Van say here that hes not bothered if his audience are not happy as long as he is.There is no disputing his genius and talent and God knows he has provided so much joy with his music to my clan.My children work hard, very hard and will likely spend their hard earned cash on many more Van Morrison concert tickets, wich by the way have always been above and beyound the cost of most other tickets. If Sir Vans attitude is take it or leave it,some less loyal fans may just decide to leave it.
Gabrielle Hollington Sir Van is quite cut when he laughs.I saw these two in conversation in the Lyric in Belfast.Afterwards Sir Van gave one of his best concerts ever.Ive seen him live 50 plus times now live. Some of those in the intimate setting wich he seems to enjoy.I do love him.Such joy iv gotten from him live and as i said my adult kids love him also. However im also old enough to remember when £350 was a good months salary.
as for art musicians are at an advantage and disadvantage. when i go to an art gallery i go to see what the artist has done. why not pop music? why must they kowtow to the marketing machine. see the art not the marketed commodity.
nothing like the artist of mellencamp. good management does not make up for mediocre legacy. with exception of brown eyed girl which takes you into a country wonderland, but for mellencamp, brown eyed eyed girl is just another number
Best vocalist of all time
Van IS THE BEST
"Club thing is where I'm at". That's Van!
It is truly remarkable how much good music this man has made and continues to make. Once in a lifetime artist.

a self-assured man doing what he has earned the right to do for so long - keeping us wanting more
He is very private.
What a master

Absolutely love this interview. I love you Sir Van Morrison 🤍🤍
I love how grumpy he always is.

He was a cool young dude and he's a cool old man.

Velcro Of all Vans awesome songs that I've heard so far, I have to whole heartedly agree. 'Into The Mystic' is simply Fantastic!!
Van's demeanor often reminds me of my late spouse...and makes me smile☺
If I want to put a smile on my face, I just say to myself, “ That’s what birds do they sing.” Album cover has Van written all over, love it.
No one better than Van!
oh yea! I enjoy getting introverted listening to vans singing & awesome musicians he uses.
Keep me singing is a great album. Hope that he soon is bringing out a new album with new Van Morrison songs.
legend and poet van the man
You and your music are fabulous. Don’t ever forget that!
Nice interview. Enjoyed listening to his replies and explanations, I don't think he seems grumpy at all, like others have said. He is pretty awesome.
The best among the best
Van's voice is better now then when he was young....can't say that about many singers.
Amazing as always, the man, the artisan, the best one.
He is like Wine, get's better the older it is!!!

take me on that journey Van, take me away! !
Gorgeous ♥️

GOd got soul
I honestly think he doesn’t mean to be grumpy intentionally but it’s funny 😄
😎..Who Think VanTheMan was 'one of The Blues Bros'....
Good conversation. That part about not being precious and thin-skinned is a good point.
Not that amazed by his recent stuff, but I know he still can TURN IT ON now and then. But main point is, the quality of his recent stuff is a fair bit better than the muck his contemporaries are squeezing out.

I can't get into his most recent works but nothing compares to the classics.
I really love too late

You're right but from one grumpy old man to another: I know what he's talking about.
Jane McGrath I saw a performance at the Albert Hall a few years ago where he almost broke up laughing singing with Chris Farlow!

I love him sweet or grumpy.
For those of you referring to him as grumpy, l would say he is not fake and l guess some of us are used to fake interviews or fake news.
new song
Can anyone tell me who is the interviewer?
Nathan Fairchild The interviewer is author Ian Rankin.
Amazing!
Rebus!
Lucky guy to have such a "bitching" band I guess he looked at Dylan and woke up!!!
He is Protestant, and from Belfast?
I feel like Van would never converse with a layman.
Prone to evolve... I didn't know dust could evolve.
Sounds like he just wrote one number and call them different titles . Some slowed down and some up tempo.
I l ike the j j cal musisue

Not much cause for a bucket and spade in Bangor now,not unless one intends to dig up a car park.tragic.
