I'm 55 years old and am a former movie critic in Canada. I've loved this film ever since I saw it over 40 years ago. I've also hosted talk shows on the radio discussing cinema and The Godfather eventually became my favourite picture of all time to this day. This is the best analysis I've seen including the stories behind it. Good work, Dan.

Did you know the scene with Brando in the office in which the cat is play fighting on the Don’s lap so naturally? The cat was placed at random in one of the 7 takes and it made it in the final piece. It really adds to the Don’s loving familial role.

That was a great video. I really liked how Dan pointed out that Coppola used the process of restoration to get the scenes lit in the way his cinematography had original intended it to be. I got a lot of respect for the director for doing that. I also couldn't stop laughing when he made the connection to George Lucas and his restoration process for star wars.😊

If I may add, another facet to John Cazale's passing was his relationship with Meryl Streep. I believe I read it in a New York Post article.

Have you ever seen "The Godfather:The Complete Epic" where Godfather 1&2 are put into chronological order with over an hour of additional footage? I used to own this huge VHS box set of it but when VCRs went the way of the Dodo I made the mistake of selling it. The booklet in the set was really good. I like The Complete Epic but I think Godfather 2 works better the way it is with juxtaposing Don Vito's rise and what appears to be Michael's fall. Cazale is so under-rated. The scenes that always gets me are both in Godfather 2- First-"I know it was you Fredo. You broke my heart" The look of dawning fear and horror in his eyes and running from Michael and then Michael and Fredo talking and the hurt when Michael says "You're nothing to me Fredo. You're not a brother. You're not a friend" Understated and powerful. When I was kid I scoffed at these movies because I thought things like The Poseidon Adventure or The Towering Inferno should win. As an teen and adult I loved this movie from the first time I actually sat down to watch it. A double-feature of Godfather 1 and 2 in 1976. Changed my relationship with movies forever.

There was a special feature on Se7en DVD and probably still the Blu-ray where they were doing dynamic digital color correction on the scene at the end of the movie, but maybe that was either 1) demonstration purposes and not used at release or 2) wasn't used for the whole film and therefore not a full DI.
