- Team WWIIMD visited last may the former battlefields of the eastern front, where heavy fighting took place in 1945. In the search for war relics we discovered some amazing finds that we will share in our new battlefield research video. Our most interesting finds where a silver totenkopf ring, SS gebirgsjäger Erkennungsmarke, and a Polizei and SS belt buckle.
We also found equipment pieces and other interesting things that were left behind in the woods after the war.
Feel free to leave a comment.
Greetings from Holland!

Maybe it's my old age, but when I watch youtube videos such as this, whether its in Europe or the Pacific and my heart aches a little for the young men who died because their country ordered them to. I pray for their souls.
Hallo Uli, Danke! Hope you get lucky and find some nice relics while you visit your friends, good hunt!
Great video! I especially liked how you showed the actual pictures of how the items you've found were used or worn. Thanks!
...that SS ring is worth so much damn money
firstname lastname bois flexin with da gucci rings can get the frick outa here, When im commin with dat SS silver ring worth their momes life
it´s no totenkopf ring
Vielen Dank! And yes, you should plan that trip, good hunt!
I love how they have put photo's of the items as they looked during the war when they find something. It brings it all together because sometimes it's hard to imagine what the find looked like. Thanks guy's
Thanks for your support Aanun!
I collect infantry items from WW2 and mainly German in origin.
Over here in UK we have lots of reproduction items and have to be cautious in what we purchase, these repos can be very good and sometimes difficult to tell apart from original.
Here you are finding the real deal for shure.
Would love to look for these treasures, thanks for showing us.
Regards from Tee.
Hi Chevy, very good to hear you enjoyed the vid, Vielen Dank!
Im glad to see these things being recovered, history is important no matter the circumstances.
Vielen Dank, schön dass zu hören.
Hi Stalwart, thanx for subbing ;-) .We have never thought about guiding tourists. We could show the remains of the war above the ground, but finding relics can not be enforced. There are days we find nothing interesting at all, and when people have paid to come along and to find relics....you need the luck factor.
Daaaaamn, I would really like to own one of these rings...
I have one of those rings
@@pigsniffer776 how?
Hi Troy, back in the 70's and 80's a lot of stuff still layed on the forest surface, did'nt need a MD to go relichunting then ;-) Good to hear you like the vid!
Fantastische video. Things that should never be forgotten... or buried...
Hi Kelly, we keep what we find and display the small relics in our display cabinet. These vids act as museum, anyone can see the finds this way.
Hi Dave, we have done some WW1 detecting, but in that time we did not have digital cams. The WW1 interest is there, but we still have so much other ideas to try out, and actually too little time. Good to hear you like the vids, there will be more in the future;-)
This is so incredibly fascinating! I'd pay a king's ransom to come along and pull history from the ground. Awesome work guys.
From USA,
Retired USN.
Hi Randy, Thanks for your enthusiastic post, good to hear you like the vid! If we would live in the USA, Civil War relic hunting would be our nr. 1 interest, good hunt to you too!
Thank you for your enthusiasm Sabbathz, nice to know you appreciate it so much.
Whoa ... check out right at the 8 minute mark when he pulls the helmet out of the ground, you can see the face of the soldier for a second as it was preserved and then quickly crumbles away. The mouth, nose and forehead were all intact!
Hey Jay, At the end of the war, many German soldiers fleeing the Red Army dismissed their equipment, emblems, booty and rings. The find of a helmet, ring or a row of buttons does not immediately mean fieldgrave.
Hi Gazt, good to hear you enjoyed the vid, thanx. If we may come across a missing soldier, we would make an interesting video of the official excavation, an experience we must share for sure.
It is not easy doing what you guys do to share history with all of us to see. Very much appreciated and I'm sure I speak for a lot of us keep up the great work and thanks for great videos! John from the USA....
Thanks for the kind words John, the relics end up in our showcases but we can reach a much larger public by showing them in our videos. Thanks again.
WWIIMD.
Outstanding job on making this video I love how you find the photo of the people your relics come from!
My grandfather told me during the war when the Germans were retreating or just before capture or surrender. They would discard or throw away metals/rings even Id plates"dog tags"! esp. the SS officer's.The Russians were not to kind to them if you could imagine and you can't really blame them. They tried to"blend in" but the allies weren't stupid and identified most anyway..that's why you see allot German stuff out there and after the war stuff got buried to clean up..and yes a lot is from battles.. A lot out there to explore and find! great video!
Your grandfather said that very well, because of that we find the relics we share in our videos.
Thanks for watching!
WWIIMD
SS members can be is recognized by their SS blood group tattoo. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SS_blood_group_tattoo Something not commonly known during the war I guess.
Thanx man! WWIIMD
FANTASTIC VIDEO!!!!! I live in the state of Virginia in the USA and relic hunt for Civil War relics. It is amazing the similarities between hunting for WWII artifacts and Civil War artifacts. Good luck in your future relic hunting for WWII artifacts!!!!!
What goes through my mind is what a horrible waste that war is.
Consider that the entire industrial output of a country ended up squandered in this way.
And for what?
Those ss rings are expensive as hell today
It amazes me that some of the relics are found just laying on the surface for so many years undiscovered ! You certainly have some nice finds in this video ! Keep them coming ! Good luck !
Vielen Dank Carlos, and it's very possible, there are special underwater md's, but we have not tried that out. We did do some relic hunting with a supermagnet, very cool and relaxing to do ;-)
This is how you make a battlefield excavation film! Sehr gut!
must be incredibly exciting and rewarding to find things given the history
Many thanks!
Hi F, we left them behind in the woods. Those k98's are evidence something happened at that location during the war, and on such a spot we hope to find some nice small relics.
Hi B, with the restoration and conservation of finds, we try to be as conservative as possible. When its obvious what relic it is, we sometimes only let it dry, nothing more. Other finds for example get carefully glass bead blasted and a wax treatment usw.
Have a go, be careful and good hunt!
Thanks a lot!
aside from the face in the helmet .. that ring was badass people would pay a lot of money for that ring ..I cant believe how awesome that ring was
I have a hat pin identical profile of the ring that was found in a wall of an old church in germany along with an eagle with the swastika below it hat pin also. I believe its a second generation series as in late war pins i was told. Really cool stuff.
I believe that ring would go for 3k or so.
Great video I love how you show pictures of what you find. Its crazy to think of the stories these relics could tell.
Thanks for the appreciation.
WWIIMD
It sure does for a sec, i would love to detect there! As some one commented earlier, "imagine the stories those relics could tell " !
The Death's Head Ring was a hell of a find!! Good video...
7.59 i seen the face, your right it was there .
One of the best Metal Detecting Videos, I have ever seen on You Tube!! Outstanding Filming! Thanks for Posting!! I really enjoyed it.
Wow, thanks!!
Very well done, including the photos of the items in use.
Excellent work, guys. They're no good rotting in the ground. Fascinating.
Thanks for watching MrL.
Wow, the soldier face at the moment when he pulls the helmet off the dirt. Incredible
Thanks man ;-) glad you like them. About your question: a lot of other ww2 relics are for sale on the German Ebay for example, these you can have send over to the US, so I see no problem at all bringing them back yourself. Good hunt!
Very well made video; music not overwhelming. Respect was shown upon exhumation. The interspersed photos of the people/soldiers wearing the equipment that was being recovered was saddening.
Thanks Pedro, we do our best! We try to make something that about 10 or 20 years is still interesting to watch, quality over quantity.
Amazing channel. Really great historical treasures. How emotional is to find this kind of stuff? Greats from Brazil.
Jota Oliver Cool to hear and thank you for watching! WWIIMD
It's amazing how much stuff the soldiers left behind.
Hi Mark, with the Red Army within sight, you did'nt want to be captured with all your decorations, or to be recognized as SS soldier. Near the end and on the retreat many German soldiers burried their own personal stuff, and threw away their helmets and weapons. Greetings, WWIIMD
That is correct. It's the same video as of yesterday, but now without a few sloppy language errors.
Great video and amazing relics , the ss skull ring is indeed creepy ,
We will do so Howard. It will not be to our commitment, all we need is a little luck. Cheers!
These are rare finds in fantastic conditions WAOW ! And the background music perfect for an exeptional video 👍👍👍
Id be worried about my hangdown being rendered into pink mist by an old land mine. But these are amazing artifacts
Hi James, congrats with your great find! Maybe a US soldier brougth the ring home as a war trophy, and lost it along that river?
Was responding to comment from Aleziss where he said he saw facial features. I didnt see anything like that. Great site. Enjoyed seeing the footage.
love your videos. keep going detecting those forgotten treasures before they got more rotten in the ground
Thanks Mike, everyone just keeps what he has found. And sometimes someone is more fortunate than the other, all a matter of luck ;-)
I am guessing that an oil solution or similar would be used to clean the smaller items like belt buckles , medals and coins etc . Great finds , especially that SS ring .
9:40 gas mask FTW what a hell of a find! great video!
A truly sad time for all those involved in the war, but great for metal detecting.
Hi Brandon, good to hear from you. It has been too long that we have been in the Ardennes looking for US relics. That's still a plan.
Have you given the position (GPS) and text of the "dog tags" to the red cross?
If not so please do the same, just to respect the dead ones and their families.
Still today relatives/families/descendants of missed solders are waiting for information.
I have two great uncle's who died on the eastern front. One was reported killed and the other was missing in action. My great grandfather also died on the eastern front on the black sea. My great grandfather has a grave at Constanza (Romania), but atleast one my of my great uncle's was missing in action.. So it would be nice to atleast find out what ever happend to him/them.
Does anyone know any ship that sank December 20th of 1943? I know that the UJ-102 was sank the 15th, but on volksbund it says that my great grandfather (if it is him) died the 20th.
another great video of nice finds, great job
another great hunt and great video as well.
some really kewl tickets for sure u guys are finding - i likem
A face seems to appear to 8 minutes, when the helmet is removed.....excellent video ! Bravo !
Great job WW2 Metal Detecting. I enjoy these videos.
No, not yet, only corroded like the ones we've shown in our vids. Waterfinds are sometimes in better condition.
Battle of the Bulge...zie onze Stg 44 video, is onze coolste vondst daar vandaan.
This stuff is so freaking cool.
Awesome findings! Nice video.
Beautiful presentation
It appears from the videos that ya'll have found some areas that were very active on the front lines. I think if you keep up the great work that a museum could be opened and admission charged. There are so many people, such as myself that are interested in your findings. The Totenkopf skull ring in such condition is AWESOME!!! I look forward to seeing more of your videos.
Thanks for watching David, a new video is in production!
WWIIMD
I think you're right Chris.
Super items, thanks for the video...
Absolutely Amazing!
Why?? Because it is a very cool hobby, and a buried helmet does not immediately mean field grave. And when it is a field grave, that hero can finaly return home, thats why.
Excellent video; Thanks for posting and make some more!
Howard White, USA
great video!! a lot of real history in this findings!! saludos
Hi Edward, sounds like you found a Hitler Youth ring, "Blut und Ehre" is the HY motto, the diamond shaped crest you also find on their knives and medals. A very cool find!
Great video! I agree you guys make some of the best ones on TH-cam!
Vielen Dank!
The ring may have the soldier's name inside it. As for the K98's, clean those up and then find out what year and factory made each one by the markings on the receiver ring.
Great video with excellent editing and choice of music!
Thanx man ;-)
Nee precies.
Enjoyed the video well done on the finds
Gr
mmm sobering, you know a man doesn't leave behind his decorations and money or helmet unless he no longer needs them. war is death, lest we forget. very interesting finds
Vette sheit weer!!
