DOOM | TNT MIDI Pack - Triangular Currents [Cover By DAR] - MAP03

Back to the grind!
Since I was feeling in the mood for it, I decided to have a bit of fun goofing around with some custom synth patches that I made for Surge XT.
The first synth that plays is actually one I did here back in November, my "SlippySquare" patch (which I think itself was an edit of my "SlippyLead" patch from a couple years ago). I made some small adjustments to this patch in order to fit it better with the bass synth. Speaking of which, I made a new bass synth patch just for this cover. I had fun getting the texture the way that I liked for this synth patch. It sort of reminds me a bit of one of the synths from the 2000 Spider-Man OST, mainly from the underwater levels.
As always, I tried to stay true to the original. However, I did wind up taking out a lot of the drums. Only keeping the main driving bass drum, and replacing a few crash cymbals with some gongs/tam-tams for dramatic effect.
The reason for cutting back on the drums was that I really liked the little percussive hits that I had going on. This percussive part is based on the synth-tom part from the original MIDI. I just spiced it up a little with the occasional percussive roll here and there.
I really love the grand and exotic vibe that this track has. Really dig the string parts! So much so that I decided to go with my favorite violin samples for what was originally going to be a lead guitar part. I was tempted to pick up and record the guitar for this, but I decided instead to really lean in on this whole "exotic" atmosphere. Speaking of exotic, I think this is probably the first time I've used some sitar samples in a song! It really adds some extra spice to the texture during the last part of the song. I also added a choir to fill up space over on the right side, since the violin had the left side covered.
Anyhow, it was fun getting to do something more electronic! Hope you all enjoyed it as well. Its time to get hyped for a flood of Doom covers soon. Especially now that I've gotten my other "side-quests" sorted out for the time being.
P.S I should note though, since I know a few of you are really looking forward to MAP04: I'll be skipping to MAP05, and I shall save MAP04 for the final stretch of the marathon. Broken Mirror, along with TWO renditions of Legion of the Lost is the only logical choice for a finale for this marathon!

This was dope. Reminded me a bit of Sonic Mayhem's "Climb" in Quake II.
The ending of this route is gonna be sweet. I bet you're already thinking of merging Cammy/Trial's LOTL renditions into a single track, aren't you?

Definitely going to be a hell of a finale in store for this marathon! I _have_ actually thought about combining both Legion renditions together, with the intermission one acting as a shorter version. Only time will tell though!
