They were and are great guitars. But for under £300 now you have some crazy HB’s, Corts and other brands that pack a huge punch. I must admit I will still mention the Pacifica whenever someone asks for a beginner guitar. But this reputation hurts the Pacifica’s higher end range (612) which are pretty good. Sadly, there’s not a prestige or Japanese-made Pacifica. The association with beginners may have put Yamaha off designing one in that range. In fact, the 612 is probably not more of a success because many people don’t want to be seen with what is effectively perceived as a beginner guitar. Jon Cordy covered this in own of his videos.
Bought a 112 in 94, still have it to this day. Great to see it still up there, 30 years ago it was head and shoulders above anything else at that price point.
My pacifica 612vii is one of my favorite guitars ever. They only released 100 in the USA and it is almost all I need. I do love my schecter evil twin hard tail a little more though.

Not any more. Brands like JET guitars kick ass and offer much more excitement. New school.

I got a 20+ year old Pacifica 712, and I gotta say it holds its own against American made Fenders no joke
Took mine out of the case after some years. Bought it new in 1990 but it's the 921 model. Still a great guitar
