I am a high school English teacher, and from my perspective, Tyler is nothing short of one of the greatest poets of his generation. I love the music, too, but if you strip the songs down to only the lyrics, they’re pure, honest, raw poetry. Loving the new album!
I'm not an English teacher, I'm not even English but I feel the same way...Tyler has the talent to convey such deep but common emotions and feelings in a way that is so simple and yet honest and raw, as you said, that makes it truly poetic, like a punch to the stomach!

Especially that Jenna is the one who says it in the video. Makes it more emotional and important in some way. I'm not sure exactly how, but the look on her face just screams "calm down, everything's alright, just do what you need to do and enjoy the god damn life"
This may sound weird but as a middle aged person,,, this song just makes me feel good to be alive. The beat, the skating, etc.. makes me feel nostalgia for a time I can never get back. Bittersweet.

This right here. I've been going through a rough patch for a while, but this album makes me feel like I've got a friend who gets it and we're working through it together. Never paid much attention to Twenty One Pilots before now and don't know the "lore," but this album has been on repeat for days.
I think this song is about an unstable dynamic between someone who is warm and emphatetic and their cold and distant partner/crush. The first one is trying to hold on to the second one and keep the relationship going in every possible way, despite the cold they receive in exchange (they are trying to "scrape the frosted windshield"), and they are so keen to save the relationship (even though the partner makes them feel sad and second guessing) that their hope magnifies any "gap in the ice" (which in reality is very little, as their chances to stay together).
Having personally lived through this situation, I have to say that I've absolutely been hit by this song, and I love the melody too

to me midwest indigo is like trying to be feel OKAY by making an effort to be close to friends/family, but the dismay that they don't get what we're feeling. sure, they care about us and love us, and they're THERE for us, but only to help practically or to fix our problems mechanically. emotionally, it feels like they're so far away (You say that you are close, is close the closest star? / You just feel twice as far, you just feel twice as far)

As someone from the Midwest, I have two thoughts:
1) so glad to be more than just a flyover state
2) I need to know where they filmed. I know it could literally be anywhere in the Midwest, but so much of that scenery felt so familiar.

Not sure if this is what this song is about, but I couldn't help but think of these feelings when I first heard this song. This is one of my favourite songs on the album by the way.
